The specs look great on paper - roomy, tall, easy entry, light. However, in the pursuit of lightness BA went too far .. way too far. Unless you are setting up the tent on sand or grass the floor WILL tear. And if you are in a rocky mountainous environment with limited space to pitch the footprint will not protect the floor adequately because it itself tears. The fabric is extremely fragile and does not look like it will stand up to serious wind. If you will be using the tent in a moderately demanding environment you need something with AT least 30D floor and 20D fly. The attached insges show how much patching was required after a single use in such environment.
This is the best tent I have ever used! Believe me when I say it, I have tried them all! I'm not a tall person (5'11") but I do have a long torso which can be odd when sitting inside a tent. I sit much taller than the average person and when you lay down you can't bend your torso, so my head seemed to always be touching any tent I laid in. I also prefer to use a 30" pad. This new XL model gives the perfect amount of head and foot space while only adding a miniscule amount of weight. I also loved that it had equal dimensions and no tapered end! Also love the lichen/mercury color. Look forward to seeing a one person xl version one day.
Used this for the first time on a 2-day trip in the Shenandoah and experienced heavy rain, heat and cloudy/cool conditions in that short timeframe. The tent held up wonderfully. The rain fly setup was easy and worked to perfection on night #1, providing enough airflow in the heat, and then when it got cool night #2 the fly acted provided just enough insulation. The tent is legit. The weight was no issue carrying it in and out in my pack, the stakes were easy to install and remove and the extra lines are nice to have for future trips with more extreme winds. I brought an additional 4-pack of stakes, just in case, but you could get by with the ones included.
Absolutely love this tent, the added size is perfect for sharing with my wife, child or the dog. I'm not a gram nerd so this is considered light weight for my needs. I have had this out on 8 trips, 15 nights, and it has been phenomenal. This thing is wind proof and water proof as I accidently set it up in a low spot a night it rained and I woke up to 2 inches of standing water around the tent and not a drop inside. (Waterbed camping?) I would highly recommend this tent for 2 people.
If you are thinking about getting this tent do it. Now for those looking for the lightest weight tent in the world have fun being uncomfortable all night this tent is probably not for you. For those looking for the perfect balance between weight and comfort this tent is perfect. The tent is actually big enough for two people to be comfortable in it! You can fit two full sized sleeping pads without overlapping and sit up fully inside without hitting your head. The bag style is amazing and allows for super easy and convenient packing up after camping. If you are reading this review do yourself a favor and get this tent.
This tent fixes everything I wanted out of the original HV ULS 2 tent. I'm not an ultra-lighter so this tent is the perfect balance for me. the extra width at the foot allows 2 25" pads. and extra length is great for some additional gear storage at the foot of the tent. set up is east and holds up well in the wind and rain of the Sierra Nevada. the only "fix" I made that was still an issue from the original version is adding a line lock and extended cordage to the vestibule. this allows me to get perfect tension on both walls of the vestibule. All in all Highly recommended for 2 people of solo.
I’ve been a Big Agnes customer for about 15 years and used my original Copper Spur UL2 for roughly 10 of those—literally hundreds of nights. I had the setup and teardown completely dialed in, which matters to me now that I’m 63 and value efficiency and minimal movement. After losing my luggage on a motorcycle trip, I bought the new Copper Spur UL2 at REI. I’m genuinely impressed. The updates are thoughtful and noticeable: improved pole connections, better overall setup flow, and smart storage details like internal spots to stash the fly so it’s out of the way. Handling the tent when it’s wet is also much easier than before. The biggest improvement I noticed was performance in high winds. When properly anchored, this version held up even better than my previous one. Overall, Big Agnes kept everything I loved and made meaningful improvements. I’d absolutely buy the Copper Spur UL2 again.
This is a big upgrade from my 15yo North face slickrock. The material is super light and robust. It is easy to set up as all of the connection points are color coded. I chose this because it has extra room for gear, pup, and another person. I haven't tested it in the rain but all of the seams are sealed and the sewing is top notch.
upgrade from elixir 2 from 2018. this tent is amazing. lightweight, feels super strong and easy to set up. was able to clean easily and pack away in the provided stuff sack without issue. have not tested in rain but I'm sure it'll perform just as good. if you're double guessing about ordering. just do it.
Props to BA for a great product and for having repair support. We bought a UL2 after years of Backpacking a UL4 with 2 kids. The old model was great— still kicking 8 years on— but the new model is even better! Thanks for making a good lightweight tent!
