Big Agnes  Copper Spur UL4 Tent

This purchase was a gift to my son who would borrow mine periodically over the past few years. I don’t know if he has used it yet nor do I know if there have been any changes/improvements over the past few years. I bought mine in 2019 and my wife and I used it for the first time in Great Basin National Park—our COVID trip. It is our light weight car camping tent for two people. Great when you are trying to keep your luggage weight at a minimum when camping requires air travel. My wife loves it because she can stand up in it. She’s 5’4”. I can stand up hunched over at 5’11”. There is also room to sit in it on camp chairs if the weather is bad. We wish we had had it for previous international camping trips where we used our Big Agnes Copper Spur 2 person tent. I also have a Copper Spur one person tent which I will probably never use again. Not that It wasn’t great, it’s just at 80 years old my backpacking days are over. Over all, fantastic tents. I recommend them highly.

We love this tent. My wife and I originally camped in a 2-person model, eventually upgrading to a 3-person tent after years of cramped bed sharing with our Labrador. Now that our family has grown to include both the dog and a toddler, this tent has been an absolute game-changer. It is incredibly lightweight yet finally gives us enough room for the whole family to sleep comfortably. We highly recommend it, although the storage bag is unnecessarily frustrating to pack.

I bought this tent about a decade ago. At the time there were not many options for a three season 4 person tent that was light enough for two adults taking two young kids backpacking, and as young parents there were other options, less expensive options. I'm so glad I chose this one. The tent poles re-strung, it has a few patches, and at least once I sent it back to be repaired; kids are hard on tents. This has been our family tent for years, actually, for practically my kids entire lives. We go car camping, backpacking, canoe camping, all the camping, whenever and wherever we could. It has been the tent my kids grew up in. Last year, with the kids all old enough to carry their own gear, and getting taller, we upgraded to the UL-5, but this weekend we brought this one back out. This tent has been to so many places, put through so much, that I felt like it deserved an amazing review simply for being such a reliable, quality, piece of camping equipment, not just for a weekend, or for that one trip but for every trip, for year after year after year. This tent made some of the greatest memories possible for my family and I hope it or a similar tent does the same for yours.

I've been able to use the tent on one trip for four nights. This is my first big agnes tent and I purchased it because it is similar in dimensions to a 4P mountain hardware tent that had been used to death. Prior to this trip, I was stoked for its tall peak height and that it had the same overall dimensions but weighed less than my old tent. I live in the eastern united states with LOTS of mosquitos and found the mesh door zipper geometry and rainfly zippers awkward, slow and requiring two hands for operation. The vestibule wall is pretty steep so it's hard to get your feet out, get out, rezip tent and open the vestibule in one smooth motion to prevent mosquitos from bombing in. I started out solo and had two friends join - it slept the three of us quite comfortably with head/feet oriented between the doors.

We used this tent for years as a family backpacking tent. Now that the kids are grown, it is our car-camping tent. It has held up well over the years. Love that I can stand up (I'm 5'2") in the tent.

We've had this tent for 4 years and love it. As a family of 4, we all want to sleep in the same tent backpacking. This tent feels like a backcountry palace. It has lots of great headroom, two large doors to enter/exit, and the gear storage options are great for a lightweight tent. We opted to add on some extra gear lofts that Big Agnes sells to keep extra organized. It has taken rain and wind very well. It's very lightweight. No issues with condensation. The fabric is very durable even after kids bouncing off the walls. If we could change some things there's one side that slopes more dramatically down at the base where you sleep (by design). The person that sleeps here is more likely to make contact with the tent side with a shoulder due to the slope. The vestibules are a nice size but the option to use hiking poles to make a little sitting area just doesn't work that well in practice. Not a big deal since we don't use it that way much. The carry bag is somehow less durable than the actual tent so it didn't last long. Easily replaced though. We are very happy with this tent and would buy again and again.

Bought my copper spur UL4 in 2010 and it’s the best amazing tent to this day ! Lasted the last 16 years of Montana summer trips in the alpine country!

I bought the 4 person, and it's perfect. I live in Saudi Arabia - VERY hot, and this thing vented perfectly, no issues. I love it!!!!!

Good even in heavy wind. 25 m/s without a problem (without using extra guylines).

This is a great tent. My wife and I are huge into bikepacking, but we just had a baby two months ago, so we had to change gears into car/canoe camping mode. Note: This review is based on two nights of car camping only (North Florida, ~38 degrees at night, high humidity), so grain of salt this review. We've been using Zpack's Triplex pro for the past four or five years and transitioning to the Big A feels like we moved into a mansion. - The four upper storage pockets and four floor-level corner pockets are a big help for storage. - As a four person tent, it packs down impressively small. - We didn't experience any rain, so no comments on that yet. Feeling like it'll be a great tent in the rain since it's taped and has a good quality waterproof coating. - Zippers worked nicely. No snagging. - Lots of vertical height in the tent, so that was a plus. - Plenty of room for two Nemo Tensor (regular width) pads and an older Therm-a-rest pad for our wee one. We put her changing pad on top of that. - We could have fit our 45 pound dog's small kennel in there too, but we opted not to bring him on our baby's first car camping trip. - The tent was simple to put up along with the rainfly. - Tent poles seemed solid and will hopefully endure a lot of camping coming down the pike. - Tons of room in the vestibule (compared to our Zpack and an old MSR) - The two nights camping were very humid, so some condensation did form on the rainfly despite the vent at the top. We never had any drip on us though. I was concerned the tent pole hub would a good place for condensation to form (directly above the center person), but I didn't see any. Wish I had more nights in this tent to provide a better review. Maybe I can edit this one in a few months.
