This will be my second Blacktail Hotel 2. My original has sheltered me through over a hundred nights—from intense heat to punishing storms—without a single leak. It’s a tough, reliable tent, though on the heavier side. For this journey, I chose to leave my ultralight setup behind. While a fully freestanding tent can be advantageous in certain situations, the added interior space—especially with the extended “garage”—is a major benefit during long adventures. That extra room makes a noticeable difference when living out of the tent day after day. Before each trip, I take the time to seam seal and apply UV protection to extend its lifespan. This second Blacktail Hotel 2 is essentially a reset before another extended journey. My original is still performing well, but after another six months of continuous backcountry use, wear and tear will inevitably start to show. This tent design, with an addition of an attic gear hammock, has served me very well. Five stars!
I absolutely love this tent. It's perfect for car camping, or bike packing. I even try to use it when backpacking if I can split the weight up with other hikers. Very well built.
I picked this tent up for more car camping and love it, very spacious. On late nights by the fire, my dog often wants to go to bed before us and will scratch at the tent door, we will let him in, but he just gets fomo and wants to come right out. The extended vestibule is perfect for that, he thinks he is in bed and can come and go whenever.
This tent packs small and fits perfectly on top of my saddlebags. Perfect size for 1 plus gear and the fly is perfect for keeping wet gear out of the sleeping area
I love the design and the material. Very roomy for 2 people
