Great for Motorcycle Camping

I took this tent on a 2 week motorcycle trip from Maine to Tennessee and back. I’m a big dude and I wanted to stand up in my tent to change and have room for a double wide sleeping pad. I also needed a lot of room for all my motorcycle gear (jacket, helmet, gloves.) and I wanted a spot for my chair to sit in while there was bad weather, this tent fit the bill perfectly. Setup is a little awkward at first but it doesn’t take me long after doing it a dozen times. The only thing I really disliked was the bag it came in, it would take me 10 min just to get into the bag provided, so I got a stuff sack to solve the issue. Overall I’m very happy with the tent. Quality is amazing never had an issue getting wet ( besides inside the vestibule, the rain fly doesn’t go down all the way and if your on a slight hill water can pool up inside if your using the footprint.) easy setup and enough space for me and all my gear.

Interesting design - too heavy for bikepacking

I was really intrigued by not only the design of this tent with the large covered vestibule, but also that it was described as being for bikepacking. The first thing I noticed was the size and weight of the tent…it’s really heavy (12 lbs.). Our current bike packing tent weighs 2 lbs. I tried putting it on a bike handlebars as described. The stuff sack is designed so that the poles/stakes are in a separate bag that attaches securely to the tent stuff sack. So you can carry both together or split the two components between two bikes. I still think it’s too heavy. At first, I found the instructions to be a bit confusing, but once I figured which pole went where and the order of operations, set up was easier but still time consuming. The second time around it took me about 30 minutes to set up working alone. The poles are really long and the fly is pretty large and a bit unwieldy and may be a challenge in a confined space. The tent portion is compact and can accommodate two people snugly and would be spacious for one. It has internal pockets for storage, two of which are fairly large. I could stand fairly comfortably in the tent (but I’m only 5’6”). The door keeper feature was useful to easily keep the flap out of the way when moving stuff or people in and out. The highlight of this whole tent is the vestibule. It would be great as a sun shelter or for rain protection. I found it challenging to roll up the vestibule doors solo because the flap is wider that my functional wingspan, but I was able to work it out. I also received a footprint that spans the entire footprint (tent and vestibule) which wasn’t really practical unless you’re ok with putting your gear (chairs, bike, etc.) on top of the foot print. I folded up the excess foot print so that it was only under the tent and that seemed to work out ok. I was hoping to be able to use the vestibule as a standalone structure without the tent, but the vestibule clips into straps that are attached to the tent. Breakdown of the tent is fairly simple, though did get frustrating at times because the fly is large and hard to manage and I found it difficult to wrangle the four arms of the main pole back together. I’d let go of one arm to break down the other, and the first would unfold itself. The rubber bands that came on the pole was helpful to keep each arm folded up as I worked on the next. It took me about 30 minutes to get it all packed up and the two stuff sacks lashed together again. Overall, I liked this tent but I wouldn’t recommend it for self-supported bikepacking where you carry everything you need on your bike. It’s just too heavy and cumbersome. I think it could be great for car camping, or using at a basecamp for bike/moto adventures and especially good in open spaces where there’s no shade or in seasons when rain might be an issue. Since the most likely use is car camping, where space is less of an issue, Big Agnes might consider making the tent itself a bit more spacious to add more comfort.

Perfect motorcycle travel tent

This is a great motorcycling travel tent. It's on the heavy side, but on a motorcycle that's OK. Having a huge vestibule to put all your gear in and just hang out out of the weather is a game changer. There's a lot of tent fabric to contend with, but you have to expect that given the huge covered area. Bulletproof quality, great in the rain and wind.

Very Functional Tent - Great for Car Camping!

The Big Agnes Wyoming Trail 2 is a great tent for car camping! The main tent is perfect for 2 people and a dog, and the vestibule is very spacious and great for hanging out while it's raining and storing gear. Set up was pretty standard - I tested it in my backyard before camping so I'd know how to set it up. It's a little clunky at first compared to my backpacking tent, but once you set it up once, you'll have it down. The only downside is that the tent is pretty heavy, so I personally wouldn't take it backpacking. But for the size and functionality, it's become my go-to for car camping!

great bike trip tent!

The assembly directions that come attached to the tent are not helpful at all. Pictures with the directions would have been extremely helpful and saved me loads of frustration. I couldn’t even locate a video online of how to assemble the tent. It was difficult to determine what the front of the tent was versus the back (labels would help!). Same with the vestibule. It took me an hour by myself to the tent situated and set-up. We often camp in our local state parks which feature packed gravel sites – there is no way to easily set up this tent without staking it. The stakes that come with the tent are useless as they don’t have hook and you need hooked stakes in order to secure the tent loops – this is a surprising oversight on the part of Big Agnes. The tent itself is well ventilated and has plenty of attachment points for gear but the 2 person is small – we are both just shy of 6 foot and took up most of the space so if you are over 6 feet and camping with another person this would not be comfortable. I do appreciate is the vestibule as this is very handy to hang out right outside your tent during rainy/cold weather or to stash your bike. It’s big enough for two good sized camp chairs or two bikes. I am disappointed that there are no attachment points at all in the shelter for gear such as a helmet, etc. Also some type of mesh screen door would have been handy to not only increase the ventilation in the tent but to keep out bugs if you are hanging out in the porch area. The head room was a bonus as I had no problem standing up in the middle of the vestibule that way I could change clothes there instead of inside the tent. Overall a great tent for those who bike and camp as the tent is easy to transport and the vestibule is handy to store your bike out of the elements. Not sure I would use this tent for our weekend state park camping though as not being able to set up the tent without stakes on hard packed gravel doesn’t make this a good option for that set up.

Very happy I bought this!

I absolutely LOVE this tent. I bought it at REI at the discount as they've discontinued it, and I have no idea why it's been discontinued. I didn't have $600 plus to spend on a tent, but it's a steal at the discount, and well worth it. I'm using it for solo trips car camping. The sleeping area is plenty roomy for my Exped Duo sleeping pad, with just enough left over to stash smaller items like my rolled up jacket. Everything else I need in the tent with me stays under the vestibule, which is tall enough that I can fully stand up when I'm getting changed. I suppose if there were a ton of mosquitos, I'd wish for the vestibule to be screened in, and perhaps that limits the market for this tent. As other reviews have said, it's a heavier tent. By the time you don't mind some weight, maybe you are looking at bigger tents, period. For me, though, who prefers to camp during shoulder seasons when the kids are in school and the parks a bit quieter, this is an awesome tent. The mosquitos aren't an issue in cooler temps, and having that vestibule to sit in when it rains, change in, etc. is so worth it. I like having a sheltered space in which to move around, and it keeps my sleeping area clean as I don't go in there until it's time to sleep, and I leave my shoes outside the door. The one issue I have is that the tent is about 14' long including the vestibule, so it's harder to find sites in Minnesota state parks that are big enough. A lot of parks here have tent pads that are only 10' x 10' (or even smaller). For that reason, I did end up getting a three person tent that is smaller overall, but will have room for some things in addition to my sleeping pad and bag. I will miss being able to stand up in it, however! There are always tradeoffs. As for mosquitos, there is a nice, metal ring where the poles cross in the vestibule, and I figure I can hang mosquito netting from there if it ever becomes an issue. Overall, this is a well-made, quality tent, which I'm sure I will use whenever I can, and I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm taking good care of it so it lasts for many, many years, and I hope I can find something similar when the day comes to replace it.

I haven’t got to try the tent yet, but it arrived damaged. The outer bag was punctured by the poles. Kind of a bummer. I might return, but I need to see if it’s going to work.
