These socks feel great, handle moisture and sweat quite well and have adequate padding in the heel and toe for day hikes. Get your hiking boots/shoes on quick after you put these socks on, however, because they are slick on a hardwood floor. Don't ask how I know or why my coffee cup is empty.
First REI product I haven't been thrilled with. While the rest if these socks are still in great shape, the inside and outside of the ankles wore out quickly. I bought this pair and 2 pair of Smartwool socks to try them out. I wore these (and the Smartwools) for work with 3/4 boots once a week and could see through the REI socks within 6 months (maybe less). The Smartwools still show no significant wear and are worn daily. While they ARE still wearable I've replaced them because I don't want to be wearing them when they wear all the way through.
These are "unisex," which apparently is why the pair I ordered (to compare it to my favorite socks, the REI Lite Hiker Merino Wool quarter socks, which REI no longer sells) is most definitely a smaller-than-expected large. They are comfortable and have full cushioning, which I like, but I'll have to return them for an extra large. Maybe I'll instead consider quarter socks that are "men" and not "unisex."
I was really looking forward to wearing these new socks and right when I got them, the first day I wore them, the elastic on the ankle portion of the sock started to snag. It was strang because I was doing very light hiking that day so I hadn’t put too much strain on them.
They are a comfortable sock and wicked away moisture. I used them on a 15 mile hike without problem. The only concern is they are low for my high boots but they did not slide down and did not expose my leg to my boot.
New go to sock. All the great features of a high end running sock and a high end wool hiking sock in one. Very affordable and great utility!
Socks shrank, even though I never wash them in hot water or put them in a dryer (I don't have one). They seemed thinner than other REI brand socks of same type that I bought in the past which were also merino. I was disappointed.
I love these socks. They are comfortable and warm and great for hiking. I wore them on Outward Bound. The quarter length is perfect because the higher socks squeeze my calf a bit. I would like to see some more colors.
I bought these on a whim and I love them. have since bought more. I'm not a huge fan of crew socks so these are just the right height.
I’ve tried tons of REI socks, always looking first for warmth, comfort, and material. These are my ultimate favorite socks!
