[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Best base layer ever, unless it's extremely cold, then I recommend the Smartwool merino 250 base layer! Hard to go wrong with Smartwool, and this is definitely not one of those times! I use these continually while hiking-I've hiked without them before I knew of them, but now there is no going back! I like to think of them (and all Smartwool base layers) as mithril (lord of the rings!): light, but bulletproof! These are not literally bullet proof, nor are they wind proof, but the warmth to weight ratio is incredible, and if you have any type of decent layering going on, you will be feeling right!
Got these for Mt. Kilimanjaro climb; very chilly nights on the mountain and to keep warm and also keep my bag clean wore these to sleep in and they're super comfy! Used warmer cold gear thermals for actual trekking but these were excellent for what I got them for. For mid-weight thermals I think they're perfect.
My experience is these fit a semi stocky guy like myself very well. Description says slimmer fit but I wouldn’t agree. Very comfortable. Love the fabric on the inner side of the waistband. Very happy!
My boy turned 14 and I was looking to replace his wool-silk long John's that he outgrew. Was a bit hesitant as I only knew Smartwool for their socks and he has loved his Hocosa cozy woolens- but I am happy to report that these got thumbs up from him and kept him warm during winter soccer frenzy in Michigan.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used for a hike in mid July in Virginia and it remained dry the entire time. Plan to use in Argentina through October so I have no doubts about its ability to keep me warm and dry now. May run a bit large, but when it's your base layer, who really cares :)
I really wish I could buy these bottoms in Light Gray, as I can with the other Micro Stripe base layers and underwear. It's annoying that all of Smartwool's long bottoms are, without exception, very dark or black. But the fabric is great, obviously.
Hey There! Thanks so much for the feedback, we will pass it along to our product design team. Happy to hear you like everything else about them though.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far have jogged in and hiked in wearing this and hiking pants over. Not sure what is different about this micro-stripe version, but it does not seem as warm as the newer all-black merino 150 layer I tried on at the store.
Love this, very soft and comfortable, the fit is on point and I would love to wear these everyday if I could. Some slight pilling and slightly sheer however a very exciting addition.
I was worried I would get too hot having this as an under layer. But not only does it keep you warm, it keeps you dry and doesn't overheat. Will have to buy a second pair.
Got these for my husband. He gets really hot so they are the perfect layer for under ski, work, or casual pants. Nice fit
