Rated 4 out of 5 by from First use in heavy rain I'm out in South West Virginia mountains and last night saw active weather. With gusts to 40mph and heavy downpours, the tent stayed relatively dry. I did experience "misting" inside but all things considered, not too bad. Damp sheen on bag but nothing soaked. Pretty good, all right.

Relative to the standrd UL1 this is 2" shorter, 4" narrower, 1" taller, thinner poles than then already somewhat uncomfortably fragile UL1. Seems like a lousy tradeoff. What am I missing?

Asked by: GroovyGeek
I had the same questions when I was debating if I wanted to upgrade to this version. I had purchased the original UL 1 only two months prior and had only set it up in my house to get a feel of the space for my AT thruhike this 2017 season. When I was reading the dimensions between the two tags at my local REI, I also asked how that's supposed to make me want to upgrade. It just didn't seem like a good tradeoff until I had them setup side-by-side. That's where I felt the difference. I was also very interested in the fact BA says this upgraded version isn't just roomier, but also 20-25% more durable with the whole tent being better/further treated. The feel of this tent is different; I like it. That was what sold me the most. In the end, to upgrade to this tent (because I made sure to get them during the best deals), it ended up only being a $40 upgrade. Well worth it, in my opinion. To be fair, I'm just shy of 5'4", so losing that length wasn't a huge deal for me. I do like my square footage for organisation, but the way the walls are structured in the new tent definitely make it more enjoyable where you won't mind taking a zero or two if its bad weather. In the end, I personally suggest to set them up together at REI and just get in there!

Does anyone make a 1-man tent that can accommodate someone who is 6'3"?

Asked by: Steve E
Just bought this tent and I'm 6'3" and it fits perfectly

I am 6'3" and already felt pretty tight in the Copper Spur UL1 which was 90" long, my head and feet would touch the tent. Now the HV is 88", but it seems the walls are steeper. Anyone know if it would be more, less, or equally cramped for the length?

Asked by: markjdube
The HV line of tents are intended to provide additional livable space with increased headroom and slightly more vertical walls. We suggest ordering a tent that is longer than 90" to accommodate your height while in a sleeping position.

Is the UL 1 big enough for a 5'4" girl and a 70 lb German Shephard or would the UL 2 be better suited, just trying to keep my pack weight down but I want to be somewhat comfortable sleeping with my dog

Asked by: Synergy
The HV UL 1 tent is too small for you and your German Shephard. The HV UL 2 is a better choice.

I like keeping my pack inside my tent with me. I'm 6'2", so would I have space enough for me and my pack inside the Copper Spur HV UL1. I'm trying to keep my pack weight down also.

Asked by: Gorp Gobbler
Most customers find that they do not have enough room to fit their pack with them inside this tent. We recommend storing it in the vestibule instead.
