I managed to snag this jacket during the online Black Friday sale for a fantastic price. Unfortunately, the size XS does not work for me so I'll be sending it back. The jacket itself is extremely lightweight and really does pack down as small as advertised. The back is longer than the front which helps with coverage. As for sizing, this is the first USA release North Face product that did not work for me in XS. I have a down vest, down jacket, and a rainshell all in XS and they all fit well. I do have a jacket made specifically for the Japan market where I sized up to Medium. I found this HyperAir jacket a good fit in sleeve and body length. But the chest was extremely tight. The waist and hip were OK but only if wearing a t-shirt and not something heavier. I'm guessing I'll need a Medium in this style but will be making a trip to the store to try it on and make sure. For reference, I'm 5'3", 110 lbs.
I bought this jacket to have on hand for running in the rain. I needed something that would keep me dry in the cold spring rain and also not cook me during the summer months. So far I've run in it through spring rains in temps 30-40 degrees and it kept me warm and dry. Even in a down pour everything stayed dry. I got the small size. I'm 5'5 125lbs. It is a slim fit and sits just at the hips. I've only worn a t-shirt under it, but I could fit a slim tech jacket in the winter. It doesn't ride up while running, which is really nice. The sleeves are long and the closers are nice. The hood stayed in place even in the wind. Pockets are large enough to hold food and large phone. It seems very breathable while keeping the wind and rain out. It packs down very small. I can fit it in my hydration pack.
Like the other reviewer said, be careful of the sizing. I ordered a S and also ordered a M and might have to go to a L
Jacket runs small. I normally take a medium but ordered a large based on reviews here, but the large is too small. Love the jacket otherwise.
literally ripped the day after i purchased it - didn’t even last 24 hours. i was originally attracted to how light the material was, but it’s not worth the total lack of durability
I'm fairly active - hiking, running, snowboarding, etc., and have been looking for a waterproof shell that is relatively flexible, form fitting, and breathable. This jacket fits all those needs. While I've been loathe to purchase anything from TNF, no other jacket on the market was as lightweight, flexible, and waterproof as this one. I'm stoked to have gotten this jacket at a good price and look forward to taking it with me when I'm backpacking in SE Asia.
I have not had a chance to use this jacket yet. We are going to Alaska in a few weeks and will be using it there. Love how light and packable it is. Love the features. It fits well and looks good. I love that it's thin but also worry about it getting a ripe or hole and feel like i have to be super careful with it. it feels delicate. I hope it will last forever but concerned it will ripe or tare.
I absolutely recommend this Jacket! I did a mountaineering course last year in the North Cascades and this jacket definitely kept me warm.
best rainwear jacket! weightless, breathable, cool to wear. I ordered a small and there's no room for a sweatshirt or pullover.
Keeps you very dry, but the hood does not stay on when it's very windy.
