Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great rechargable headlamp I don't have any other BD Sprinter to compare it with, but I've been using the 2014 BD Spot for a while and have gotten tired of the weak single power LED or narrow triple power LED. I run in the mornings few times during the week and like the comfort of not having to worry about my light dimming during my run. Now, I recharge it after every run and feel confident that my path will be lit brighter than ever! The light casts nice flood light that doesn't give me tunnel vision like it did with the BD Spot (beam). I was worried it would be too heavy with the battery pack, but you don't even notice it once you start running. The back red LED has steady on/flashing/blinking and off mode. It's nice to be able to keep yourself safe from vehicles in the dark.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from GREAT LIGHT, BUT A COUPLE OF WEIRDLY INCONSISTENT/SKIMPY DESIGN CHOICES THAT ARE PREVENTING ME FROM TELLING IT "I LOVE YOU." TL;DR For brightness, lightness, comfort, flashing tail-light, and rechargeable-ness, Black Diamond's Sprinter has no equals. If you're a runner, this is the lamp you need. Period. But a couple of design choices lower the overall product. For the premium MSRP on this headlamp, I expect to be able to deliver an unequivocal 4-star review at minimum on a premium headlamp. This version of BD's Sprinter, alas, doesn't warrant it. Insofar as its prime directive goes – make lots of light for a long time – I have no complaint. This was purchased as a replacement after 4 years of BD's green and black Sprinter. At that time, I bought it for the brightness and the fact that it had a rechargeable battery. Got many many miles of running in all kinds of weather with consistent (mostly) performance. I absolutely LOVED that lamp, warts (there were a couple) and all. Didn't love the need to use (and keep up with) the small charging dock. The micro-USB port on it was recessed too deeply in the body of the dock which made it difficult to connect to a micro-USB cord. Around year 3, the strain relief collar around where the power cord entered the battery pack crumbled, allowing sweat and mechanical stress into the battery compartment and ultimately corroding the power leads. However, I'm dangerous with a soldering iron, popped it open, re-soldered the leads, re, packed the strain relief with some Sugru modeling compound and was off to the races.) I loved it and was willing to do what I needed to keep it running forever. I lost that version (as in misplaced), and bought this one as a replacement. And while I have a respect and appreciation for it, I haven't told it I love it yet. And I really want to some day. BRIGHT LIGHTS The new model is brighter (in both the forward-facing main headlamp and the red rear flasher) and easier to operate. Can not yet speak to battery life, but I was happy to see the elimination of the charging dock. Too, the power cable has been resigned to a flat-cable design that looks like it will handle strain better over time. Nice feature upgrade. FLAPPY FLAP This model has a standard micro-USB port in the side, which brings me to the my first deduction of a star. The micro-USB port is covered with a small rubber flap/plug that is "leashed" with a very thin, weak-looking nipple, for lack of a better term. The flap is shaped to fit into the USB port and seal it from sweat. But there's not a huge amount of the material to wedge into the port (a la a wine cork) and as a result, the fit of the plug feels loose. More than once I've returned from a run and the flap is open. Sweat/rain/cruft kills micro-USB ports dead and I'm concerned that the plug's looseness may end up being the light's Achilles' heel. A disappointing skimp that cost the lamp 1 star. SKIMPY STRETCH Secondly, the headband is made of a stretch material that is somewhat thinner and less rigid across the width of the material than the previous versions. The result is that the band more easily slips out of the split loops molded into the back of the battery case when putting the headlamp on and adjusting it to fit comfortably. The quality of the stretch and the fabric covering it is fine, and far superior to bands found on cheaper headlamps. But the annoyance of having to slip the bank back off and fiddle/retuck the band into the power pack is an irritant, and cost this iteration of the Sprinter a second star. ARMCHAIR DESIGN QUARTERBACKING These flaws don't feel consistent with the otherwise solid design language of the product. Which is to say I don't think the product design would have taken these short cuts. But further down the line, sourcing choices like lower-grade elastic stock, or a less complex piece of injection molding, end up degrading the overall user experience somewhat. I've worked for a consumer electronics accessories manufacturer for 10 years and my sense, given that background, is that these small design tweaks were made late in the game in order to eke some cost savings out of an otherwise solid product. NET-NET As I said up top, this lamp is the go-to for any runner (road or trail) looking for brightness, comfort, and rechargeability. I'm hoping that running changes to this iteration's band and silicon/TPE trim will eliminate the minor gripes I pointed out and return BD's SPrinter to its former role as one of my most loved pieces of gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great running headlamp I've been running with this headlamp for about 2 months now and I use it every Wed night, rain, snow, or shine during my upstate NY winter. This is a great headlamp! Really bright with a wide light distribution. Puts all the other headlamps in my running group to shame. You will not be disappointed. Very comfortable and battery lasts a long time. People ask me all the time what brand I wear since it performs so much better than theirs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from excellent dark running gear I've used this for about 20 early morning (30 minutes) runs and it provides plenty of surface light without any trouble. I've charged it a couple of times and have not had any issues with battery life. My only minor gripe is that the rear strap can easily separate from the battery pack. I've got a HUGE head and I like the strap snug so I must carefully place it onto my giant head such that the rear strap does not pop out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Running Trails @ Night I use this for night time trail running. It works great, but make sure you manage you battery good. It's rechargeable through a mini USB port, which is convenient and I like it , but when it's dead it stays dead. Keep track of your runs and it's no problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best running headlamp ever With the super bright 200 Lumen headlamp I can now run safely in the dark and see where I am going. Other styles that take little batteries are just not bright enough. I bought another one and gifted to my sister-in-law and she loves it too.
