Not a Fitbit
I had vivoactive hr for 3 months. Battery life has been good. I have done a few 23+ mile hikes with gps turned on for 18 hours and still have 25% battery life left. Tracking is vary accurate and and matched my garmin gps unit and phone tracks. Battery life has lasted over 5 days without a charge. I know it can get 8days. I have no issues with a rash forming as i did with Fitbit brands. The garmin connect app works well. I am able to share my actual tracks with Google maps. I would purchase this again and recommend it to others. My personal opinion I think it's better than a window or Android smart watch compared to battery life.
Vivoactive HR
My watch just arrived today, after MONTHS of waiting :) Things I like so far: -I have teeny tiny wrists, and was very worried that this was going to be large and bulky. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it fit very well. The band style really lends itself to accommodate all wrist sizes. -I don't feel the HR monitoring protruding into my wrist at all. -The watch is able to report an average daily resting HR - It's syncs to Garmin Connect on my smartphone quite quickly. -My husband bought one, too, and just went out for a run. I was able to receive an email link with live tracking, which will be quite convenient for us. -The screen resolution adjusts to daylight. My only complaint, and I really hesitate to even call it that because it's really so minor: -the screen is somewhat dim when not outside.
Great fitness watch
I was looking for a watch to track my exercise. I mountain bike, run and go to the gym. I wanted a watch with an HRM, GPS and that wouldn't force me to take my phone with me on runs. I looked at different options including buying the latest Samsung watch that was beautiful, light and did a decent job but was just too complicated to use, had too small of a screen and the screen would not keep on during workouts. I would give the Garmin 5 stars if it was a bit thinner. I like the app and the watch. I like how it syncs with Strava. It also shows me notifications from my phone but I don't really care that much about those. Just a nice bonus for me.
Does almost everything of the iwatch 2
Waterproof, GPS, syncs with smartphone to receive messages, very good battery life, and realtime heart rate monitor all work well. Does most functions of the iwatch 2 but with better battery life. More convenient than my Forerunner 910 XT. Small profile looks good on small wrists. Heart rate monitor was accurate for interval running workouts without the chest strap. GPS mapped out run and keep track of pace on intervals well. Unfortunately, I also bought this for golf. Once I loaded three courses, the golf program crashes. Garmin does not have a fix. The rest of the watch works well. Other Garmin golf watches do not have this problem.
Motivates me to do more
My first sports watch beyond a simple Timex. After much research I chose this Garmin because it doesn't require my phone to use the GPS (saves my phone battery life), can do multi-sport (swimming and running for me) and it has a wrist-based HRM (hate the chest strap HRMs). Took me a while to get use to it - it is very large on my wrist and it was sometimes difficult using the touch screen. But after a month of logging in a variety of workouts, I'm getting the hang of it and I really like this watch and all the features. I don't wear it 24/7 as an activity sleep tracker, but will every now and then. I look forward to using this tool to help push me to get moving more.
Makes life easier
I wasn't sure whether to buy the Garmin or the Fitbit Blaze. After some research, I went for the Garmin and I couldn't be happier. The main selling point is that the Garmin is waterproof. This is a HUGE plus for me since I kayak and swim. I also like the better quality of tracking cals burned and heart rate than the Fitbit. The app is functional, not at all the prettiest, but it works. I think Fitbit has the better app for day to day use, but Garmin is much better when it comes to stats and reporting on various sports. Overall I am very pleased to have switched over to the Garmin.
No steps with trekking poles
Had the watch for a few weeks now and I do like it. Couple major problems if you plan to use it while hiking and that is it does not count steps while using trekking poles and the elevation gain is not accurate. On a recent hike of over 8 miles and 3000 foot elevation the watch only recorded 6700 steps and 29 floors. I tested the step accuracy on a walk and it was within 2% which is good, but wasn’t using poles. Tested HR monitor while resting and during exercise, was within 2-3 bpm. Beyond that battery life is nice, touch screen works well and many different ways to customize.
The best value in fitness trackers, plus more!
I've had this watch for about two weeks now, after having a FitBit Surge for ~1.5 years. The Surge stopped charging, and so I was looking for something more robust. The Vivoactive HR crushes the Surge in every way for the same price. Better screen, much more information in one shot. More features, more activities. Has a clunky (but working!) stopwatch/timer. Actually works as an altimeter! The HR is better (still not great with optical only, but also can work with a chest strap.) Customizable watch faces so you can change what you see very easily, depending on circumstances.
Easy, Entry-Level for the Advanced Tracker
I started out with a FitBit and after sometime I wanted to upgrade because I wanted a tracker that tracked everything I did, hiking, running, swimming and biking. I felt that this product was a no-brainer. I was seduced by the other advanced models but I finally decided after my Fitbit died that I was ready to upgrade, and in the end all I needed was a tracker. Overall, the product works great, battery life is good requiring charge every week or so. The app is a little more complex than Fitbit's but after sometime I was able to get the hang of it. Overall, I highly recommend its such an improvement over Fitbit - now all I need to do it to get all my friends to come over to the "dark side: ;)
had the forerunner? upgrade to Vivoactive HR
Was an Xmas pressie to myself and have used it steadily 3-4 days a week since. For paddlesports, spinning, hiking, weight lifting, important to have heart rate, speed, distance and water proofing (in the SF Bay 2-3 x's a week, it's not failed!) using the forerunner seems clunky compared to the Vivoactive with its touchscreen interface, and ability to control music on my phone and see text or app notifications, steps per day and the bonus of not having to pair a heart rate strap is priceless. No complicated button sequences, link to the Garmin connect app seamlessly. HR function is semi accurate within 8+/- beats.
