I have been wearing GEL-Kayano shoes since 2003. I have loved every single pair. They always fit right out of the box. I run on a regular basis, and I have completed marathons in GEL Kayanos without a single blister. This latest redesign, however, is awful! I have narrow feet, but the toe box of this version is WAY TOO NARROW. When my foot strikes, there is nowhere for my toes to spread out, and they end up rubbing together. I went for a 10 mile run in this new pair and ended up with a horrible blood blisters on both feet (see photo). I hope that next year's version of this shoe returns to the original shape. These used to be the best shoes on the market, and I've had a horrible time trying to find a replacement.
I have had two previous versions of gel kayanos, size 10, and these are significantly smaller in the toe box, despite ordering up to a 10.5. The toes are tight enough that I'm not sure another half size will be enough room. Since these only go up to size 11, I can't wear them. The color I ordered was the silver/pink/parachute purple, which was cute. The purple trim above the sole appeared more bluish on my screen, but is a warmer purple in person. I would recommend Gel Kayanos in general because I've liked the previous versions I've owned, but I would only recommend the 23s to smaller-footed people who can size up at least a full size if not more.
While the Kayano 23 is still a terrific shoe, beware that these do run, in my case, a half size smaller than previous Kayanos. Still love the shoe and will buy again in appropriate size.
I loved my previous Kayanos but these are so much smaller. They are narrow and have a very narrow, small toe box. They got me through training for and running a 12 miler, but I will not be buying this model again. I ended up with lots of blisters on my toes, a problem I've never had previously. They are also not as soft and cushiony as the older models. Going back to Brooks Adrenaline.
I just received my shoes in the mail and not only are they so cute, they are so comfortable!! I put them on and the sole has a nice coushion and they hold my foot perfectly! This is my first pair of Kayano 23 I usually wear Gel Noosa. I can't wait to take a long run in these!!
I love the kayano. I've been wearing this shoe for years. I'll be honest. I made a BIG mistake ordering this pair. I always buy your brightest version. I LOVE oranges and pinks, anything bright! I was feeling frugal and bought the cheapest color, black. I regretted this the moment I opened the box. I literally felt sad wearing them. :( Hate is a strong word, so I'll just say...I really, really don't like them. I had no idea it would affect my mood so much! Fortunately, I am a fitness coach known for my "sparkle." One of my members suggested, why don't you add your own touch of sparkle to your shoes? I have a rhinestone wand aka my b'dazzler and went for it! So much better!!! It's a true life lesson. From our darkest moments, we find an opportunity to let our light shine bright!!! Fortunately, the shoes still perform great. However, I must share my 2 cents (or a dollar here. LOL!) Please, please, please...always offer a happy bright pink, orange, and/or silver sparkle version of your shoe. I don't care what season it is...many of us just want to wear bright happy colors! It truly changes our attitudes and puts a spring in our step!!! Thank you so much for listening!!!
I bought this several months ago and they felt wonderful when I tried them on the first time. I am a RN and so I am on my feet 12+ hours a day, after the first week I was ready to throw them away they felt tight across the toes, they killed my feet. I have planter Fascitis and usually Asics are my go to shoe for comfort. I changed out the insole and they are better, but I feel they don't let my feet breath by the end of the day my feet are hot. Maybe next time I will go up a 1/2 size. I normally wear a 9 in all of Asics. I feel for what these cost they should have been more comfortable than my usual Gel Flux that I normally wear.
I was excited to get these sharply discounted. I've been wearing Gel Kayanos for years, always wore and 8 and have loved every pair. I was surprised to find this pair significantly smaller than my previous pairs. They are both shorter and the toe bed is narrower. Back they go.
I've been running in the Kayano for almost 20 years, and with the exception of one or two versions where they switched to asymmetrical lacing, thought each was a vast improvement on the others. I'm an experienced runner and marathoner who runs high mileage, so I'd like to think I know this shoe, and I'll tell you, the cushioning on the 23 is just horrible. Maybe it's the new foam they're using. I don't know, but the shoe just has no give. I also agree that the toe box is far too narrow. I have a small straight foot, and I can't even fit into the shoe. I hope Asics will take notice and bring back the Kayano's great ride and fit.
