Perfect Thule bike rack add-on
The add on is the perfect set up for carrying 4 bikes safely and keeps bikes from banging into each other. One of my questions was weight carrying capacity and acceptance of fat tire bikes. The add on comes with 5” wide tire trays, but my original carrier had the 3” trays. I was able to easily put the wide trays on my original carrier and move my original 3” trays to the new extension. This allows for carrying fat tire bikes on the inner most rack which is where you should mounting heavier bikes. Thule instructions say each tray is capable of carrying 60lbs, which covers most e-bikes. You can always remove your e-bike battery (about 8lbs) to lighten the load.
Great fit and match to my classic T2 but...
Great fit and match to my classic T2 but the holes to marry it up to my existing T2 are off by about 1/8-inch so I had to use a cutoff wheel to shorten the collar to get it to fit. Everything else on this rack is top notch quality (and have had my T2 for 10 years and still going strong). Once I got it installed properly, everything lines up perfectly with my existing rack. So besides the holes being slightly misaligned everything is excellent. I'm fine to modify slightly to make it work (in the end the cut I made isn't even noticeable at all, so I'm happy with it... but had to minus one star because for the price I shouldn't have to do any metal work to modify.
Thule T2 Rack
My T2 has been trouble free and works flawlessly. Going on its sixth year and no problems. Iv'e had no issues with the Allen head bolts. I check the torque on them a couple times a season and all good. I like the ability to swing the rack down 30 degrees below level to open your hatch with bikes loaded. A full day on the turnpike and the bikes are secure. Because this rack "holds" the bikes by clamping the front tire into the rack and the back a strap over the rim there is no paint or frame abrasion. I would buy this again in a heart beat. I have seen some newer electric bikes with low very wide tires. They wont fit in the saddle the front tires rest in. Also the tires with the large mud or dirt tires wont fit. This model rack is for 20-55 mm width tires. Not sure if you can buy a wider shoe for the front tire. If you can this would work for the wider bikes. You do have to lift your bike onto and off the rack so keep that in mind if you have a battery bike as they are heavier. The rack folds up parallel to my tail gate when not in use. I leave it on three of four seasons. Use silicone spray on the hinge mechanism and you will be fine. On newer vehicles rear sonar ( beeps when your backing up and close to an object) that will beep whenever you're in reverse so I turn mine off when the rack is on. It does obstruct the back up camera a bit but no big deal for me.
Heavy duty top of the line bike carrier
The T2 extender allows us to safely and securely carry up to 4 bikes onto our hitch now. The cast iron frame and hirch mount are top quality and mounting/ dismounting the bikes onto the carrier is fairly easy work for one (strong) person. The only minor deterrent might be how heavy the carrier is with the extender attached and require one or two strong people to detach it. But I’ll take heavy duty and harder to move over light-duty and easy to move anyway. The locking mechanism for the main carrier onto your hitch and the built-in bikes locks also give you piece of mind.
A Solid Choice
Despite the difference in age between my rack and this extension, each were built with Quality and durability. My old locks even fit the new rack. I can now transport the family’s bikes.

I used another Thule bike rack before buying this one and this last one is just the best,fits perfectly on my 29er 3.0" tires and it tilts !!
A pretty good product.
The rack works well. Seems well built. The only issue, which I have experienced in the past, is the type of bolts provided. They use a hex key (Allen wrench), which is provided. However, when even a moderate amount of torque is applied you end up with rounded off bolts. I've had to (again) get hex head type bolts as a substitute that need a socket to be properly tightened. These work well. It seems to me that it would be easy enough for the manufacturer to use this type of bolt rather than the ones provided.

Selected 3 stars, only due to condition of how the product arrived. The product is very good. Functionality is great. The product arrived in a re-taped beat up box. It is very obvious, the box had been previously opened and the contents unstrapped, lying loose inside the box. The small box that held the hardware, screws, bolts, washers, end caps and the brackets that secure the cross arms where loose in this small box. The plastic straps securing the arms were obviously cut with a knife or scissors. The bag that held the screws, bolts, washers and end caps had been manually ripped open and the parts scattered. With all of the parts loose in the shipping container, the parts were marked up and dirty, dust/film enveloped all of the parts. Will need to wash the arms in order to remove this film. Fortunately, located all of parts indicated on the parts list and assembled the product. It fits correctly to my Thule T2 9044 2-bike rack.
Destroyed Rockshox Zeb
Destroyed a Rockshox Zeb because the fork lowers were hitting the sliding pole. It deformed the lowers which led to severe stanchion rub off. CSU and lowers needed to be replaced. Should never be used with 38mm or larger forks. Honestly don't use this if you have any suspension forks on your bike.

Received the bike rack box in terrible condition. Both box ends were split. Upon picking up the box, some washers fell out. Unsure of the rack condition or who was the carrier. Decided to return. REI gave me a full refund except for $30 handling charge.
