Work horse
I replaced my laptop bag for work with this bag. I was tired of using a messenger bag for the last seven years and decided to switch to a backpack. I've been using osprey packs now for a few years and I've come to know that I can count on the build quality. Organizationally this pack meets all of my needs. I'm typically flying around the country a few times a month and this pack fits nicely at my feet on an airplane. One day I'll be using it on the way to a meeting, the next I'll unpack my laptop and use it as a day bag to hike a 10 mile trail. My favorite feature is the front mesh throw pocket. Throwing my puffy, rain jacket, or snacks into it on the trail makes it a snap.
Most features great except the Mesh on sides
I love everything about this pack, its organization, space, etc. EXCEPT: the mesh tears in no time with normal wear and tear. My old packs used to last for years, even the mesh. This one is torn after just a year.
Nice design, but for me a fatal flaw
I'm a huge fan of Osprey products and got this as my daily work pack. I love how well I can organize my laptop, iPad, cables, papers and various things I carry with me everywhere. I also travel frequently and I like how expandable it is while also being lightweight. HOWEVER, I also use the hip belt a lot when it's loaded, because unless I can get the weight off my shoulders, I develop shoulder and back pain. The flap at the bottom where the shoulder straps and hip belt attach extends the hard plastic sliders far enough around my hips that they dig in and cause considerable pain when wearing the belt tight enough to get the weight off my shoulders. I've tried adjusting the length of the should straps and nothing helps. I'll have to return it.
Daily Driver for Life
After spending about 20 hours looking for a college backpack, i settled on this one. Having used it literally every day for the past year, I can say I made a good purchase. It survived 20 pounds of books and being a raft guide in Alaska. The laptop sleeve fits a 17 inch laptop although it makes a less comfortable straight back. There is plenty of organization for all sorts of stuff. It may only be a 34 liter pack but I have stuffed 40 liters worth of stuff in it just fine. The material is super durable aside from one of the water bottle sleeves developing a small tear. This was due to bushwhacking in Alaska. I can not recommend this highly enough for a school and general use backpack.
A compromise between office and hiking
I travel frequently for work and need to carry a computer, but also go hiking where possible. The computer pouch works well, but the division into different compartments limit the volume for longer hikes, where food, water, a range of clothing, and possibly some gear are needed. During the decent from a hut I was caught in a moderate rain storm and was a little disappointed that the pack is not more water-retardant (the contents at the bottom of the main compartment were completely wet). There is a water-proof pouch for a wallet or phone. The full pack was comfortable to carry for extended periods. I chose this pack because it is light-weight, which I appreciated during long hikes as on the subway. I also like the relatively narrow shape.
lightweight and holds a ton
I got the olive green and my husband got the black. It's extremely lightweight, can hold a computer safely in a special place and has a big enough large compartment to hold shoes and clothes. Also has zippered places for passport or other important documents but is still roomy and not chopped up into small spaces. Fits very well and is comfortable to carry over one shoulder or on the back. I'm 5'5" and he's 6' and we both bought the same size and traveled all over Italy for 12 days with them.
Great pack
I purchased this pack for an Alaska sea & land trip. This did a great job, I parked two outfits ( In case luggage was lost) and had plenty of room for what ever else I needed. This is a nice size not to small or big. This is my first Osprey backpack for myself. This is very comfortable, I have used it on 8 mile hikes and have never got sore neck, back or shoulders. I have bought both sons day packs and large backpacks for backpacking trips. They all have held well and some packs are 15 years plus old! Husband is purchasing an Osprey pack for Israel trip we are planning. Love this product!
Love it!
We needed a new backpack to use when we travel. It holds our iPads, snacks, passports, and goodies PLUS I can even put my SLR camera in its case inside it. Love the mesh bag on the outside to quickly toss in a jacket that the kids peeled off. I love the little top zip for quick access to immediate things and the large front pouch. We also love the inside zip compartments. We baptized this awesome bag on a 15 day trip to New Zealand over the holidays and found it exceeded our expectations from airplane, car and yes, hiking uses! Thanks.
Great pack, except....
Most of the great features of this pack have been covered in the current reviews, so I will point out one major flaw. The packets for bottles allow bottles to slide out, even when cinched tight. A couple times a week one or both of the bottles will fly out when putting the pack on. Today, my favorite one was broken. This is a really important flaw for me.
Traveling backpack
I use this backpack when I travel has several compartments that I will use from my electronics and files and it is small enough to fit under an airplane seat
