I'm really happy with my Revolights Eclipse
The new set of Revolights is so much easier to install and to charge. Now the battery socket is in the lights rim and you no longer need cables to connect the battery that used to be a separate unit installed in the middle of the wheel. To charge it you just pop the battery out, charge it at home and put it back to the rim. The lights last about a week, using on average 30 minutes a night. You cannot believe how proud I am wherever someone shots at me what a cool and visible set of lights I have. I recognize they don’t seem to be cheap at the beginning, but I feel that they are really improving my safety and one cannot put money on health. Stay BRIGHT and keep riding!
Slick way to stand out on the street
The marketers have been very careful to accurately describe their product, don't let an enthusiastic salesperson sway you. These lights are about being seen, not seeing. The package states legal headlight for a reason. While they do put some light forward you can only see the road ahead if it is truly dark and then you will see the hole before you hit it, but not before enough to avoid it. They do make your bike highly visible. In a cool way. Though I am considering adding a handlebar flashing light for those dawn/dusk rides. I have used them for about a month of 100 miles/week commuting. Batteries are good for about 5 hours in mild weather. I am worried about what will happen in the winter with salt on the roads. I have installed these 3 times (due to other reasons) on a couple of different wheels. While they do fit on a variety of spoke sets, it seems that some fit easier than others. Getting a straight fit is a little like trueing a wheel, it takes some time and patience. Getting the light centered seems to be solely dependent on the spoke spacing. It doesn't move. I have needed to tighten the screws once, but nothing that falls apart on the ride as long as they are checked once in a while.
Flashy -but not worth the hassle& wears out spokes
They look absolutely awesome and I get tons of compliments on them. I tried super hard to make it work for me (lots of tweaking), but in the end they aren't worth it and I plan on removing them. Pros: -Beautiful design -Increased safety -Could be potentially good for short distance riders on smooth trails Cons: -A pain to install (hours to get them "just right") -Need to make minor adjustments to them every 3-5 miles so they don't rub on stuff or start not lighting up on one side, or lighted up all the time. -They rattle on rough pavement In the end, I like to ride from Gasworks to Leschi and back (in Seattle). Given the rough road conditions, I'll stop 4-5 times to "fix" them. Also, the weight of Revolights appear to stress the spokes. I've replaced the front wheel (complete rim, spokes, and rub), after one ride with Revolights on my old wheel. After the second ride with them on, I had three spokes loose on my rear wheel (and am now ordering a new back wheel (rim, spokes, and hub). So, I spent $250 to replace both wheels, although slightly old, due to what I believe (my opinion) was the accelerated wear caused by Revolights on my wheels.
The Super Dopeness
Love this product, super stylish and super functional. It ups your visibility and cool points. Cars see me much better and I feel safer because of it. Batteries are super easy to charge and swap in and out. Much more secure than conventional wrap around lights as these are attached to the wheel itself. Takes less than hour to install, and work easily, you don't have to think about losing your little lights and spending a ton of money replacing them. Highly recommend it, especially for urban riders! Enjoy your incarnation!
