Brilliant idea, flawless execution

This light is absolutely brilliant. The dim setting is perfect if you have tent-mates, while the bright setting radiates enough light to eat or hike at night. I'm not very good about recharging it during the day, but I have yet to run out of juice - I've left it on a couple times at night and it's still going strong in the AM. Folds up small, very durable, lightweight. It will blow away in a stiff breeze, but it can be tied down. Goodbye flashlights and heavy lanterns, this is my favorite camping light.

Love these!

We got two of these for our recent camping trip and they were great! I love the warm light this version puts out. We used two in our large tent and it was enough light even to read by. We also have the clear ones MPowered makes and they are also good. The light is a cool white on those and seems brighter, but I like the warm light that these give off. No problems charging, love that we don't have to mess with batteries. Very lightweight and easy to use.

So happy...

Love, love, love this light. Kind of dubious about it, but figured hey "it is REI". IF it is no good I will take it back. Glad I took a chance because we are so happy with it. We have used it on a couple overnight hikes and will buy another soon. It is light (weight) and compact when deflated. It rides and charges well when clipped to the top of a pack. It gives off a nice soft light when inflated. Soft enough to use as a "table top lamp" to play cards or eat a meal. Hang it above your head or in a tent or under a tarp, and you get a great "ceiling light". Being solar you can use it for extended periods without feeling guilty about wasting batteries. The are two very minor improvements I would like to see. That is the reason for 4 stars, still so worth getting one though. 1. The flashing feature is stupid. I would much rather have a DIM setting, think "night light". 2. In the (total) dark it is all but impossible to find the power button. It is so smooth you need a flashlight to turn it on.

Bought it for use in RV trailer

I bought this to use in our small RV trailer but so far have used it only car camping. It was super in providing a little extra light after dark while eating and cleaning up but was very good in the tent providing light to organize stuff. I like the light weight and the H2O proofing as I'll use it on river trips as well, not intending to submerge it but if it rains or falls in the water, this is a nice feature to have. It seemed to charge in the stated time, I haven't turned it on long enough to run out the battery yet so can't comment on the light time.

Lighting our path

We purchased three of these lights days before car camping in Kings Canyon. What a great find, the light output is just what we were looking for, not to bright to ruin night vision but great for task lighting alone or in a group. Overall a great product, lite weight and functional. The only faults I could find are the valve is too short making it a little inconvenient to blow up, and I managed to crack on of the plastic tops pushing the valve in. All in all a great product.

These lanterns rule

I already had one of these and liked it so much, I bought a second one. That one wouldn't hold a charge for more than an hour or two (I think I just got unlucky), but REI replaced it for me, and the new one works perfectly. They are so lightweight, simple and green. I put a carabiner on one and it always hangs in our tent now, making the perfect camping/backpacking light.

Worth the weight backpacking, no excuse otherwise!

I carried the 2015-16 generation while thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. Picked it up at mile 532 and carried it the rest of the way. I carried this in addition to a headlamp, and I can't begin to explain the jealousy that was directed my way because of this thing. Simply clipped it to my backpack with a tiny caribiner, and even with the dense forest of the Appalachian mountain range it only died on me once in over 1500 miles. I would advise to remember to position it into direct sunlight on breaks if used heavily; in the west and modwest this will be a non-issue in areas of great sun exposure especially in higher altitude. This device will save your headlamp, provide excellent ambient light at your campsite (with or without fire), and will light up a dark shelter with the simple click of a button. The addition of the battery level indicator on the new generation is a nice feature. This is a fantastic "pleasure" item for backpacking, and for regular camping trips there is no excuse for not having this item.

Great solar lantern

I bought this a few weeks ago. Charges quickly. I like the soft lift it casts. I also picked up 2 Luci EMRG for my twin boys(7 y/o) and they love it! So far it's survived reading in their make shift tents. The true test will be for the October Cub Scouts camping trip.

It's good for the price

What I like: It can be deflated and packed away in small places unlike a hard plastic light source, it has a battery mater on it so you know when to recharge it and when it's fully charged, it has a dim and bright light setting (personally I find the dim setting is quite bright). What I don't like: It's a bit flimsily (the lights and solar panels are set in card board that can be bent), sometimes the on/off button is difficult to find and it also feels like it could be made more sturdy. I like it. Right now it's my favorite camping light but I'll be surprised it it lasts 5 years.

Long lasting light but do not leave on dashboard!

We were really excited to get this solar lantern so we could ditch the batteries for our other LED lights. These lanterns work great and lasts a long time when charged. Our primary disappointment is the base of the lanterns, by the inflation tube melted and disfigured making blowing up the lamp almost impossible. We were leaving the campsite for the afternoon but wanted to charge the lanterns while we were away so we put them on the dashboard of the car to charge and be secure. When we returned they were deformed and not charged. The temperature outside was in the low 60's and I know that cars can get hot in the sun but I am skeptical that they would not last in the desert where temps reach over 100 degrees.
