Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job! I got this pack for one specific reason: My 6 mile walk round trip daily commute. I had a Jansport day pack when I lived in Seattle and had a shorter walk, but after a few months of this longer commute, I realize it outlived its usefulness. Certainly at this time of the year (April), I could have more layers on leaving in the chilly early morning and much less returning home on a warm afternoon. The fact is that I needed more room to stow extra clothes. This pack is very comfortable to wear, especially when I jog part of my commute home. Also, using this pack so frequently gives me a test for what I may need for a trail pack. I believe that I made a good choice here. Plus, for the amount of time on any given rain day, nothing inside has gotten wet, thus far!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pack, Missing Features This pack is amazing. Kelty makes fantastic bags and this is my favorite so far. The front loading system is well designed and far superior to top loading. It makes the bag easier to pack and makes 50 liters go a lot farther. I was able to pack this bag better than my 65 liter with the same amount of gear. The side pockets are spacious and the front pocket has handy organization tabs. The material is very tough and reliable in unison with a pack cover. There are a decent amount of daisy chains as well. The only down side to this bag are some relatively simple, missing features. First, there are no hip pockets. This is rather annoying, but you can just buy attachable pockets and add them. Second, the shoulder height cannot be adjusted. Just make sure to go into REI and get a measurement for the pack. This shouldn't be an issue if you get the right size, unless you loan the pack to a friend. Third, the little space between the side pockets and the actual pack goes all the way through as opposed to having a bottom. This can be seen as good or bad honestly. It means that you can't use them as additional pockets, but it also means that you can stick your tent/trekking poles behind the side pocket and have them go all the way through to the side pouches at the bottom of the pack. Since the pack is so spacious, losing the storage space isn't must of an issue. In conclusion, this pack is a great buy. I'll be using it for years and I would recommend it to anyone. I do strongly recommend modifying it by adding some hip belts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from it can be use for anything, hiking or travel This bag is awesome, well price and of good quality. I bought a kelty Redwing more than ten years ago and it still in good condition and does even look outdated in style. I just bought this year model and kelty just killed it with the design of this bag and the "perfect fit" straps. if you're looking for am all around bag that looks good, quality materials and can be use in many different activities, even as a emergency ready bag...this is one of the best options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Bag I've Ever Owned I've had my Redwing 50 for almost 5 years. I've used it for camping and luggage from Bora Bora to Yellowstone to the Arctic Circle. It's fit in every single overhead luggage compartment bottom first without any problems. It actually utilizes the overhead space better than a standard suitcase. Water resistant fabric, sturdy zippers and plenty of side compartments. This is a great bag for light camping and traveling.

Will this bag fit as a carry-on and/or under the seat in an airplane?

Asked by: Adventurous Preacher
Will not fit under a seat, but fit in the above carry-on storage. Just bought this in LA and used it as a carry on flying out.

i wanted to know the width and the depth of the two pass through pockets on the side of the bag because I was thinking that I could  use them for my tripod setup if this would even be possible?

Asked by: Chromaticvision
I use the push thru sleeves And I also lash tripods and stools using the cinch straps on the side of the pack, and they carry better as they are farther back on the pack Just get a larger rain cover
