Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great in the Rain-Keeps you dry! I purchased this coat with the intention of being able to do daily activities in the rain. Recently we have been getting a lot of rain and this coat has come in extra handy when having to take the dog out. The jacket is a good length, covering most of my thighs which tends to get the most wet when walking in the rain. I like that the hood has adjustable cord to help prevent it blowing back in the wind. This is a very lightweight coat so if I suggest getting 1 size larger to allow a sweater to fit underneath if you plan on wearing it when its cooler weather. I have not gone hiking or camping with this coat but I would imagine with how light weight it is, it would pack up well in a backpack.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lovely, but has some issues I've had mine for 2 years now, wearing it 3 seasons of the year: Numerous compliments on the looks, which is super-flattering. Inner white lining at the wrists started to crack just AFTER first year had passed (NOTE: REI only has a one-year warranty). It is noisy fabric which I work around, and thin (I can't wear short sleeves under it and will vary the weight of my layers depending on the day). I wish the hood had a vertical elastic adjustment in addition to the horizontal, as it tips too far forward and runs into the top frame of my glasses

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wonderful UNTIL it delaminated dramatically! I liked the deep pockets, the perfectly fitting hood. It was the only jacket that I took with me to,London three weeks ago. I would wear it over sweaters--the perfect thing, I thought, against the spring chill and occasional rain. After I wore it the first time on the trip, I noticed that my black sweater was covered with little white pieces of the lining and the iPhone I had in my pocket was similarly afflicted. I left white pieces of lining all over London. The jacket in now worse than useless-- its lining in tatters. I would not even give it to Goodwill. I bought it in 2013 and I have not mistreated it nor have I washed it. REI will not take it back. SO beware, this jacket may not be worth the money. I wore mine only briefly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great long rain jacket I am really happy with this jacket. I am taller with a long torso and wider hips (5'9" 160), and the large fits great with room for a lighter sweater. I think this jacket is best for 60 degrees and up, but would work for 50 degree weather with a fleece/sweater underneath. This really is more a spring/fall jacket. The purple color - graystone - isn't as purple as the picture would suggest and is much more interesting than black or khaki neutrals. The longer length in the back creates a really elegant body line. I think this jacket is suitable for professional and casual attire. I've only worn it in light rain - with no complaints. The ability to cinch the waist and change the cuff is really nice, but it doesn't have the Velcro closures on the sleeves, so it isn't completely water tight. It is very light weight and packs down easily for easy travel. I bought it for a trip to Tokyo in April.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect rain jacket I love this jacket! I bought it about a month ago and took it on a trip to Europe! It looks great, it's light weight and it wasn't too warm. I have broad shoulders and it's hard to find jackets that fit and still have movement. This has plenty of room, and the adjustable snaps and the waist give a cute feminine shape. I'm 5'6 135 and the small fits perfectly! Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all around rain coat. I bought mine while living in my hometown Seattle, where we wouldn't even consider carrying an umbrella. I'm an avid walker and urban hiker, rarely driving or taking the bus, I put this coat through the paces! This coat has stood up to the constant winter rains in Seattle, then Portland, now I'm in Durham, NC where it rains just as much. I have worn this coat with a down or fleece base layer, just a hoodie, and when the temp is right I've worn it without a base and it never gets too clammy. I'm tall with long arms and torso, the REI house brand always fits me well. This coat has great design features and adjustability for individual fit. I especially love the hood adjustments! My Kyoto Trench is my all around 4 four season rain coat. I love this coat! If I could change one thing I'd put in some pit vents, either as grommets or a pit-zip with mesh gussets because it gets at bit warm in the swampy heat of the South. This is hardly worth losing a star over.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from cute, but crunchy First off, I LOVE the look of this coat - cute, cinched at the waist for a feminine look, and hit right where I wanted - mid-thigh for a 5'1" girl. BUT, it's very thin. Too thin for what I ultimately wanted. AND the real kicker - it's noisy. Every time I move in it, I sound like I'm munching on a bag of chips. I've seen other jackets with fabric more soft. I will continue to look for them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent feminine rain jacket! This is a very nice rain shell, its long enough to cover my bottom. The red color is lovely, different from the typical back or gray jackets. Its a shell, so there is no lining. The snaps on the waist are great for cinching and making a feminine shape.

Does this jacket have the same dry touch interior as the Talusphere? I like the feel of it, but the style of this one better.

Asked by: MinnSteph
No, the Kyoto is designed for a city use rather than hiking/backing so it has an interior liner.

Will this product help me keep warm? I will definitely have warm fuzzy layers underneath it, and I know the protection from snow and rain will be great, but any added warmth?

Asked by: Caiten
Hi Caiten.   As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a pretty lightweight jacket. That being said, I wore it this morning over a light cotton sweater and because the temperature was probably about 55°, I actually got pretty warm wearing it in my car.   I think this is because even though they say is breathable material, any type of material that is very plastic or synthetic based seems to trap the heat and moisture in my opinion. If you are looking to get warmer, that might not be such a bad thing for you!    I know one reviewer suggest adding the armpit I let holes for air. I also would love that.  However, overall, this is a great rain jacket and super fashionable at the same time.  I needed something like that for work as the mornings here can be quite misty or drizzly.    Hope you find what you're looking for!

Is Vin Rouge the same red that's in the video? Someone asked a question about the Molten Red color, which isn't listed. There's no photo for Vin Rouge or Seattle Mist, and this is online only, so I don't want to be surprised.

Asked by: sundaesmile
The video shows the molten red color which has been discontinued. We are hoping to have images for the new colors shortly. Seattle mist is light gray and vin rouge is a red/purple color.
