Some much I loved, but too much didn't work

It's possible I ended up with just a defective item, and REI was nice enough to process a refund, but there were a lot of things I loved about this tent but three things that made it lose its utility for me. I'll begin with what I love about this tent. First, it's engineered very well. The construction of this tent from its light-weight material to its pleasing appearance make it a great purchase. I'm an outdoor photographer, and this tent really pops when doing astrophotography. Second, it's very packable. It didn't take up much space in my backpack. Lastly, I love the light pockets on the inside and its venting features. Here's what I didn't like. First, I questioned the tent's ability to keep me drive. I camped on top of the snow, and the next morning I observed that the fabric was completely soaked as I was packing it up. As expected, there was some condensation, but I didn't think the floor fabric would be as wet as it was. Second, The straps on the rainfly that connect to the grommets of the tent to connect the two pieces together kept falling out upon assembly. This happened with three of the four grommet areas. The fabric was sewn with a flap to prevent this from happening, but they literally fell right out upon trying to assemble the tent. Had the wind been blowing, then these pieces would have flown away and could have ruined my entire outing. Lastly, I really have no idea how two people can squeeze into this two-person tent. I'm 5'11 and 210 pounds, and I took up most of the space inside of this tent. Unless I had a partner with me that was very, very small, then maybe this arrangement might work. I'm sure people have done this before and made it work, but I couldn't see how it could for me considering my size. I've been looking at this tent for years and had been daydreaming of getting it someday. I wish it would have worked out for me. Once again, the soaked fabric and the straps to the rainfly were likely issues only the tent I bought had, and you may not experience what I did. I think Nemo is an incredibly cool and innovative company, and this definitely does not discourage me from buying anything from them again in the future.

Bomb shelter

Only used in light snow. Great size and roomy inside. Easy to set up had to waterproof the tent body and fly. Good ventilation and the tent above all stays warm. Had a difficult time crawling in so if it's raining or snowing there is a good chance you'll get a little wet before you get inside. Love the size and different configuration it give in my backpack. Packing friendly.

Small and Light. Could use improvement.

Pros - Very light and packs down small for a 4 season. Sturdy and sets up fast with one person. Looks great. Cons - The condensation / lack of ventilation that everyone talks about is a big drawback. Expect to wake up to wet sidewalls every time. Very tight for a 2 person tent including the vestibule. Two packs will only fit stacked on top of each other in the vestibule. Also, weirdly the door opens down meaning when unzipped it ends up on the floor. Hard to get in and out without stepping on the door. Definitely set this up in store and feel it out before purchasing

Solid tent

Initial impression: Tent came as expected. It is more than long enough for me (6'1''). It is close quarters for two full grown men but it is as expected since it is a mountaineering tent as well. The material is very compact and the packed size is great for my backpack although it does seem like it may be easily teared, but I will see how it holds up and get back to you if there are any changes. The set up is great and simple. The tent seems to get warm inside quickly and holds air so the vents come in handy. Will test it out next week on a real trip.

Though she be but little, she is fierce

I’ve never camped in the winter before, but with the Griswold Family Christmas coming up, I volunteered to test out my tent in the backyard of my mom’s house in northern Minnesota. I’m lazy and didn’t check the weather, so I didn’t tie out any guylines and only used stakes on the door. For the first three nights - dry and about 10 degrees F - I stayed warm and dry. Minimal condensation frost from my breath after I opened the vent, and only over my head. I’m very impressed with the quality in the details - the stitching and brilliant construction. On the last night we got a foot of heavy, wet, snow. Remember, I didn’t tie *any* guylines. The tent didn’t totally collapse under the snow - just kinda slid to the side - and that also impressed me. Even then, the only moisture inside the tent was from my own breath. I’ve camped enough in all different tents to know that if I’d properly set this up, it would have handled the storm, no problem. I can’t wait to use it again! NOTE: it is TINY! It’s not a good 2-person tent. The vestibule is so small that I just stored my bag and shoes inside. I’m 5’6” and have a 72” sleeping pad - and it was difficult to keep one side from touching the tent wall at any given point. As a 1P tent, it excels!

Bad condensation

I used this tent in approx 6 degree not windy night, and I got terrible condensation. The side of my sleeping bad touching the tent was wet in the morning. The group of people with other much cheaper tents did better than mine. While everything else is amazing, the condensation side of thing just doesn’t live up to its price tag.

Bombproof is an understatement

I bought the Kunai for a long horsepacking trip in Northern BC and then to Mongoliap- nine weeks total, and used the tent nearly every night. One night in Western Mongolia I set this tent up in 60 mph winds in the high country next to our kitchen ger. I thought I'd be in Kansas by the end of the night. My tent? Bombproof. The ger? didn't make it. What a terrific, quick to assemble and put up and down product. Worth every penny.

Versatile for 3 and 4 Season

When we got this tent it was for spending a few days in the Wind River Range between late September and early October. For anyone who knows the Winds. September and October might as well be the beginning of winter in the winds. After the first night we woke up to frost covering the outside of the tent. Come to find out it was 5 degrees the entire night and we never knew the difference. The following 2 nights were much warmer and the option to remove the fly and convert back to a 3 season tent was an incredible option otherwise we may have cooked alive in the tent! It also provided us enough space for 2 people and a 95 lb German Shepherd. We thought initially this was going to be a bit small for us but it worked out perfectly. My favorite part about the Kunai is the size it packs down to since we had a 13 mile approach to where we would be setting up base camp.

Well ventalated!

I bought this last year and got to use it up in the White Mountains in -15 degree temps during a pretty heavy snow storm. This tent stood its ground, didn’t budge, and remained well ventalated while keeping me dry and draft free. And the price is AMAZING compared to a lot of other 4 season tents out there.

Bomber Tent

Great features! Fast setup, light, bomber strong. The venting in the Kunai is fantastic allowing good airflow to keep condensation at bay. Lots of little features that make this tent stand out above others in the same class. Also a good size vestibule for gear, cooking etc.
