I used the Hornet Elite tent for a week in the mountains with strong winds and freezing temperatures. I really love how strong this tent is considering it's a semi-standing ultralight tent. The setup is quick, easy, and intuitive. The OSMO technology is a real game changer when it comes to rainy situations– the tent remains waterproof for longer even when the rain comes down with a lot of pressure on the fabric. It's the best tent addition to your ultralight backpacking kit!
I just hiked 1600 miles of the PCT with the Hornet Elite and it was my oasis at the end of the day. I couldn't wait to get into camp and crawl into my tent which is saying something with how gorgeous the scenery was. It was so light weight most people couldn't believe I had a free-standing tent and not just a tarp or bivy with me. My favorite feature was for sure the night light, it's so nice not to have to whip your head around your tent after a long day of walking and just keeps the tent so cozy as you wind down for bed.
I purchased this tent NOT from REI but it doesn't appear Nemo will let you leave a review on their website. This tent is so light and packs so small. I obsessed on this tent for months the two person version. We used it on our Mt Olympus summit trip. WOW! What a piece of garbage!!! First night we got a hole in the floor and the rain fly zipper broke and we couldn't get the zipper back together. Also this material the tent is made of is basically wet toilet paper. It is so fragile even on a forest floor small, I mean very small sticks will poke through the nylon. YES we were using a ground tarp with it. It is also very small for a two person that's how they save the weight. This tent would never last in a granite environment. Nemo should be ashamed to produce such garbage. I am an experienced backpacker with many nights under my belt. I can't even begin to express my disappointment in my $600.00 Nemo Hornet elite
Looks nice and there is space for 1 and so.e gear but not without its flaws. I use a thermarest neoloft mattress amd a western mountaineering Cloudlite 15 sleeping bag, im about 5'3" amd i hit the mesh all the time with my legs. Being so high of the floor with the mattress makes you be closer to the mesh. The rainfly door opens all the way up and the tent is wider on the bottom so when the rainfly door is open it will get wet even on a mild rain. You can't sleep with the rain fly door open as the moisture from outside will get the mesh wet and your sleeping bag wet. It is a pretty and light tent for a semi free standing tent but not the best. Another thing is the mesh door zipper keeps getting stuck with the rain fly door when opening it. It gets in the middle of the way of the mesh zipper evem when hold by the tied out it has. Looks nice but on the expensive side wirh lots of design issues and trade offs. If you dont use it on a lot of rain weather thennit is a great tent. The back of the tent that has the solid material not the mesh on it, when it rais it gets condensation amd get your head or sleeping bag wet. That should not happen but it does. I want it to love this tent so bad but i realky cant unless i use it on dry weather. For the price, tjere are a lot better options without the issues this one has. NEMO mess up on this one. Great looks but poor design plan on this one.
Arrived today—unbelievably well made—and an ultralight techno wonder! 😁
8/1/23 Used this tent on many packing forays. It's light, easy assembly; held up. even in wind. Recently took this tent to RMNP to camp. The green fly cover got a little wet over night, but with another, shook out moisture and hung to dry. Dried very fast too. Mine is a veteran of many years and trips. It has not disappointed, I am very, very careful handling it and am careful with zippers. Being UL, it is fragile. Recommend. I place tent inside pack and carry close to back; the poles and stakes in pocket outside then compress all down to not loose. I keep poles and stakes AWAY from fabrics. Also I have a Footprint which I removed from packet and folded inside pack. I recommend using one, as it not only helps against ground chill but further protects tent. It's rugged and can take the squishing inside your pack, and you. Like the Light pocket ( I use my head lap) on inside tent ceiling and little pocket on tent interior, right, for cell phone. The green fly is visible and the whole thing lovely and I value it highly. I am a 71 yr old female and like the light carry.
I LOVE this tent!! I’ve used a 1P, single-wall, non-freestanding tent for many years. I finally decided to suck it up and get a bigger tent. I wanted a 2P, double-wall, semi-freestanding tent that wouldn’t be too much heavier than the tiny tent I’m used to. There are so many options out there, but I am truly satisfied with the fact that I picked the best one that fits those specs! What makes this tent stand out from the competition is truly in the small details. The osmo material provides SO much more water repellency than I’ve ever experienced. The headlamp pocket in the top of the tent that acts as a lantern is amazing. The side pockets are roomy. The extra little piece of paracord + clip on each vestibule adds more livable room. The smaller vestibule square footage means that this tent can fit pretty much anywhere you want to pitch it. It holds up extremely well in the wind, and the perfect pitch is SO easy! The tent itself also packs down suuuper small. Long story short, I cannot recommend this tent enough if you are an ultralight backpacker looking for a little bit of luxury with your shelter.
Liking the material of this tent. It feels super lightweight. Quality is there. I'm excited to use it this summer on the JMT.
Hello a fairly odd situation, I wanted a lightweight freestanding tent for two people and this is by far the best… however I’m a non freestanding guy and I couldn’t bring myself to go through with it. If you’re wanting a free standing tent or semi freestanding tent please look no further. Ive had hands on with the tent and it is outstanding.
I was using the Nemo Aurora 2p tent, but it was just too heavy. So, I upgraded to the Hornet Elite 1p tent. This is a small tent, too small to keep your pack inside if you are using a 25-inch pad. I knew this prior to buying and have no problem with it. The vestibule is big enough for my pack and shoes. Weight was an important factor in this purchase, so I am very happy with this tent. I recently took this on a hike in upstate Pa and this tent performs well in rain and wind. There were 20 mph winds all night and I had no problems. It rained almost all night, and the bathtub was as dry as could be. I had zero condensation issues and the outside of tent dried quickly after the rain stopped. My gear stayed dry in the vestibule also. Set up was as easy as could be and this tent packs down small if you keep the tent poles separate in the allotted bag. I would definitely recommend this tent to anyone looking to save weight or are looking to purchase a semi freestanding tent that is durable. Thank you, Nemo!
