The Setup I purchased the NEMO Dragonfly OSMO 2P looking for a true freestanding, ultralight shelter that wouldn't compromise on livability or pack space. To date, I have logged over 15 nights in this tent across varied terrain; averaging 10 miles everyday with plenty of elevation gain to boot. As a 5'9" hiker, it doesn't feel like a coffin and has plenty of room to spare. The Dragonfly balances trail weight with impressive interior volume. The Wins * Effortless, Fast Pitching: The single-hub pole architecture and color-coded corner clips make setup completely foolproof. Even after a exhausting 12-mile day in low-light conditions, I can get this tent fully pitched in under five minutes solo. Takedown and rolling it back into the stuff sack is nearly just as rapid, unless you're OCD like me and must have it packed away perfectly. * Palatial Headroom & Smart Tapering: The central hub pre-bends the poles to create near-vertical sidewalls. At 5'9", I can sit completely upright with inches of headroom to spare. Using it as a 2P tent gives me a massive footprint to fully spread out my extra gear inside, and the abundance of mesh corner pockets and overhead gear lofts solves the classic ultralight problem of losing your headlamp or phone in the dark. * Superior Hardware & Material Feel: The OSMO fabric feels robust right out of the box, it's super durable and can take a beating, and packs down incredibly small in a backpack. Unlike cheaper tents with loud, metallic-sounding zippers that catch on the track, NEMO uses premium, buttery-smooth zippers that operate quietly and effortlessly. Every buckle and snap feels secure and engineered to last. * Massive Vestibule Footprint: The two asymmetrical vestibules essentially double your storage space. It keeps muddy boots and wet packs completely shielded from the elements without encroaching on the interior living space. The Tweaks * Stake Requirements for High Winds: While it is technically freestanding, the sharp, asymmetrical taper means you really need to use at least 6 stakes (and utilize the guylines) if you are facing high winds on exposed ridges to prevent the head-end from catching the breeze. * The Premium Price Tag: This shelter is a serious financial investment. To protect that investment, I highly recommend spending the extra money on the supplemental NEMO Dragonfly Footprint. The ultralight floor fabric is high-quality, but the added footprint gives immense peace of mind against campground gravel, roots, and abrasive granite. This adds to the already high cost of ownership, but I believe well worth it. The Verdict If you have the budget to afford it, this is easily one of the best, most feature-rich freestanding 2P ultralight tents on the market. It handles extended backcountry trips with ease. It is a luxurious palace for a solo hiker and gear, and a highly efficient, lightweight shelter for a minimalist duo.
I have been using this tent for the past Year. From the mountain ridge to the ocean. It’s light, robust and all features are well thought out! I use it when I am guiding or recreating in the mountains or by the ocean with friends and family. The environment /eco story is worth noticing with this product. It’s incredibly spaced out for a 2 person tent.
I got this tent a year ago, since then i have used and quite honestly abused it. It's been from deserts to snow storms in Sequoia and held up pretty well. The warranty team is also excellent and the fly was repaired through an easy process. This is a great tent and can stand quite a lot of abuse.
This tent has it all. It's lightweight, easy to set up, well constructed, and it's got the night light feature that I can't live without. I can't believe how spacious it is inside and I love all the storage pockets!!
I used this trip for a trip in Africa where day temperatures would reach 30+ celcius and remain pretty high throughout the night. The 3P worked wonders to keep strong ventilation across the tent, and perhaps make me believe that I was somehow protected against a lion 🦁! The stake design has also changed slightly here and it makes it even easier than before to setup. Even for a 3P this is a very easy 1 man job, even in more harsh conditions. Also, the amount of storage space available inside is AMAZING!
I recently bought this tent for two upcoming backpacking trips - the Maroon Bells Four Pass Loop, and the 100+ mile Lofoten Long Crossing in Norway. I wanted to purchase a tent that was lightweight, roomy (which is why I oped for the 2P), and weatherpoof. I haven't had the chance to use tent yet, but I sent it up in my apartment when it arrived. I was able to easily set up the tent without any instructions which I hope is a promising testament to the durability and quality of the tent!
Used it for my trip to Moab. Spacious and lightweight. So easy to set up with the color-coordinated poles and clips.
I bought this tent for my dad to take when he goes on solo trips without me. I am so glad I did! He is pretty picky about tent design and structure and we spent forever searching for a tent that would fit his requirements. He has been incredibly impressed with the tent, as well as its durability, pack ability and the lightness of it. He’s looking forward to many more adventures and I definitely recommend NEMO to anyone who is searching for a reliable backpacking equipment.
I just purchased this tent (not used yet) to replace my 2P Hornet. I'm really bummed I didn't make the switch sooner! The material seems nice and sturdy, I love the color coordinated poles, and all the pocket space on the inside! It's large enough to fit my partner and our 80lb Golden Retriever with ease, and probably an extra backpack (with one in the vestibule). I'm really impressed with the quality of this tent compared to the tent I purchased in 2020. I think I'm going to be very happy with this purchase!
Very impressed with this ultralight tent. Setting up is easy. It rained and stormed all night but this tent kept us completely dry. We were two adult and a dog - super cozy. So worth it!
