Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first sleeping pad I purchased this last year for a primitive camping site on a rocky beach. I am so happy I purchased this, I slept so well (unfortunately some of my camping mates who didn't have a pad did not sleep so well). It did not deflate at all. It was perfect for my size (5'6";118lbs;20something yrs). Be sure to not to store this rolled up in the bag. Just store it underneath your bed, inflated. It helps prolong the life of your sleeping pad. Hope this helps!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent value Bought this for my 11 year old daughter for a recent camping trip to New Mexico for 10 days and she was a big fan even though night temps would dip to mid 40's she remained warm and comfortable. It was easy to set up and easy to pack. One thing that may be an issue to some is this pad is shorter than the same model men's pad which was the same price, as my daughter is not tall this is not and probably won't be a problem but it is something to think about. Having said that, I am pleased with the purchase and she would want me to buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A sleeping mat that does not disappoint! I purchased this for my first ever camping trip and it did not disappoint. The weekend we went was in September and it got very cold, down in the 30's at night. I could feel my body heat being radiated back to me because this is what the mat was designed to do. With wasy set up and equally easy take down, this sleeping pad was the best. I have to say, that was the greatest night sleep I had all year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great I have been pleased with the the amount of comfort this particular ground pad has provided. I have not once thought about the idea that I am sleeping on the ground. It is easy enough to inflate & deflate. Well engineered for back packing purposes. Easy to store on a hike.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well This sleeping pad was recommended to me for backpacking. It works well and is easy to use. I slept well, but wish I would have spent a little more for a smaller one.

I read that it's recommended that the Trekker Self-Inflating Pad be stored fully extended with the valve open. Will the pad's durability and/or performance suffer from lengthy backpacking trips where it will be stored rolled-up in a compression sack?

Asked by: gorozco
If care is taken to protect the sleeping pad, it should hold up just about as well as if it was stored unrolled with the valve open.

The Trekker Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad is made to be air tight even after repeated use.

How long should I expect this product to inflate the first time and subsequent times?

Asked by: James B
The first time may take five to ten minutes to inflate. Adding air by blowing in the valve will quicken the process. After the first time, it should normally take under two minutes to inflate. Usually adding a few puffs of air will allow the pad to reach its maximum inflation.

How can this product be cleaned?

Asked by: jodyrichardson
We recommend spot-cleaning your sleeping pad rather than fully saturating it. Lay the pad on a clean, dry surface and prep a bucket of warm water. Take a non-abrasive sponge or rag and a small amount of cleaner (such as Nikwax Tech Wash) and spot-clean where necessary. Flip pad over to wash both sides. Rinse pad with another wet sponge or rag; thoroughly dry before storing away.

I noticed that the women's pad, the R value is 4.2, the unisex R value is 5.6. Is that correct? So if I want to stay warmer, I should get a unisex version, right?

Asked by: eggsandwaffles
The R values listed for the women's and unisex pads are correct. If you require additional thermal protection we suggest ordering the unisex version.

Can the valve on this model be replaced? The Therm-a-Rest valve kit Q&A states that it will not fit REI pads such as this, and I don't see an REI-branded valve kit.

Asked by: SeattleSojourn
No, REI does not carry a replacement valve for our Self-Inflating Sleeping Pads.
