Great Product…needs better build quality

First off, yes, it gets plenty hot--scalding, in fact, if left on a vehicle's roof in 70' ambient air temps for a few hours on a sunny day. Lay it out flat for best results. Second, the screw-top is vastly preferable to the fold-over. Buy this version just based on that. Third, I agree with most of the other posters--you have to really baby this product if you want longevity. It punctures easily. The handle does rip. The nozzle system is kind of chintzy, but works if you develop "the touch". Wrap a piece of electrical tape around the widest part so it acts as a bumper if you drop the nozzle on the pavement--it will shatter otherwise. Bottom Line: this is a decent product but someone could easily sell a tougher model and charge $50 and I'd pay it--the solar/gravity concept works really well when it's all said and done.

There's a half inch PVC tube that runs the width of the bag at the top. I assume it's supposed to distribute the weight of the water. This tube tore through the bag at the seam within 24 hrs of hanging. Note I was using the 5 gallon bag (but had only about 4 gallons) so this may not apply to smaller bags. Also, the shower head leaked even when turn off. That said it was sweet being able to take a warm shower after a hot dusty day. This just isn't the product to provide it

Horrible design

I bought this about 2 months ago and used it for the first time on a 5 day canoe trip. On the positive, it does a great job of heating the water. The negatives are: 1. It's hard to fill from an open water source, like a river or lake. It's designed for a faucet. 2. When the water comes out there's no cut off, so it just runs out. 3. the shower tube and head are difficult to attach, then leak, then pull out with the least pressure. You have your hair all lathered up, you're about to rinse it and when you manipulate the shower head, the hose pulls out and all your precious warm water runs out in a stream - and there's no way to turn it off. Very poorly designed.

Design flaws

Bought this for a recent trip to the Olympics . . the shower nozzle is impossible to work with soapy hands. It ought to be able to be operated with one soapy hand while showering. We bought the 4 gal. bag and it is sufficiently heavy enough that I can't imagine using the 5 gallon bag without two people (explains why they have a surplus of them in our local store). Should have gotten the 2.5 gallon bag. On the plus side, it did get sufficiently warm enough in 3-4 hours for shower use without getting burning hot. I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase this bag.

Ahhh...to feel clean outdoors!

Our first time use of this shower was great out camping. The pros are the larger shower head spout and the lack of an on/off valve, requiring less juggling to clean up. One just has to hook the hose/head upward when not using water, since it's gravity fed. We managed this with a looped bungie or strap. The cons are the lack of an attached sturdier handle at the top of the bladder and the lack of a handle below the fill cap that would aid in opening the hole and filling the bladder (such as with some hydration bladders).

One of the more robust designs

I leave my solar shower permanently attached to the roof of my camper van which is tough on the shower. I purchased this shower hoping it would last longer than the others I have tried and for the most part it did (about 3/4 years). The filler is a proper Nalgene type screw cap which is much better that the push in type that are commonly used on solar showers and which allways leak. The bag is made of a thick vinyl material which is strong but mine did tear after about 2 years where the handle attaches as another person has also experienced. I repaired it and used it another couple of years before it developed a hole near the top probably due to being abraded while on the roof of my camper. The biggest drawback of this bag (apart from the weak handle) is the mechanism for turning the shower on and off. The shower head is very difficult to pull into the "on" position when you have soapy hands and if you pull too hard it comes off the end of the hose - very frustrating! It needs an inline valve (could be user added). All in all though this is one of the more robust solar bags.

poor quality - leaks - doesn't get hot

We bought this for a family camping trip to RMNP - Friends traveling with us bought a much less expensive solar shower from Walmart. Initially this one felt heavy and better made - but after the first use it started leaking where the hose connects to the bag. The Walmart solar bag lasted all week without leaks. This bag would get the water warm, but the cheaper bag from Walmart got the water significantly hotter with the same sun exposer. All in all this is an inferior product for triple the price.

not so warm shower

We didn't have a lot of sun. But it did get about 2hr and only heated the top water. Was warmer than the river and should be fine for a summer camp out. Also the hose pinches and you have to have it up or it leeks even with it in the closed position. So if you fill it and don't have access to water it may be gone. Good thing I didn't fill it before we left or it would be all over the back of the car.

Don't buy this until redesigned

I bought this two weeks ago and took it camping this weekend. It is very poorly designed/manufactured for reasonable expectations of use outdoors. First flaw is the spout that would not turn off. Should have been an easy thing to design as a push-pull (off-on) thing, it's been done by many other outdoors equipment manufacturer's with great success. Not this time. The second, and most frustrating flaw is the screw in connection with the o-ring for the water line. Totally weak point. Just a minor wrong- way tug, or setting the shower down causes the cheap plastic connection to pop out.
