I bought multiple of these for my thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. I didn't require any break-in of the shoe for it to be comfortable, they held up really well, and were breathable. I didn't have any issues with blisters but everybody's feet are different so I can't say this would be the case for everybody. I typically wore a pair of these shoes for about 800 miles before they needed to be replaced; granted, I could have replaced them earlier than that since the tread was starting to diminish and the shoes started getting holes. This is what I expected. I will definitely be purchasing these for all future hiking.
I do a lot of walking on pavement & trails and standing on tile & hardwood. So far this shoe is great, really light weight & comfortable, with a thick soft cushion around the ankle and tongue. The tread has great grip too. Although my foot measures a size 8 in all of the "Brannock "Devices", I always wear an 8 1/2 or 9, from the most expensive shoe to the least expensive. This Merrell though, the size 8 is a perfect fit. I love this shoe! Lucky for me, my local REI had this shoe in stock, though not this blue/yellow I purchased, I tried on a grayish color with aqua. I also wear an insert, but so far haven't needed it with this Merrell.
I bought these shoes for regular dog walking and local hiking, but also because I was heading to San Francisco and was planning on walking around the city and doing some open space hikes. These shoes were comfortable right out of the box. We walked around SF all day, and did several 2-4 hour hikes without any issues. happy feet and knees. These fit my wide feet well. The only reason they are 4 stars is I would like more color options, the blue is pretty, but i would prefer something less flashy. Also, these would be nice if they came in waterproof. I will certainly buy these again when the current pair wear out.
I bought these to go hiking this summer and have not yet made the trip. However in the meantime I have been using them for local day trekking along a wooded trail near our home. The trail is sandy in some spots so I was really glad that these boots did not let any sand inside the shoe. They are extremely light-weight and very comfortable. I did not need to break them in at all. My only wish is that they came up a little higher over the ankle for extra support. Otherwise, they have great traction. The treads on this shoe are incredible. I am looking forward to taking them to Maine this summer for some rocky trails and climbs.
Yay, finally Merrell delivered the comfort that I been looking for years. I was really a big fan of Merrell since my very first hiking shoes were Merrell that I used for 8 year for on and off hiking, but Merrell stopped making wide toe box and I was very disappointed, I have tried almost every other brand in hiking shoes and trail runners since now I hike over 1000 miles / year. Didn't get this kind of comfort with any brand, except my pentagonia hiking shoes. They run little longer than my usual size 8 shoes, so I had to buy 71/2 and returned the size 8 shoes. Already broken in and fit like a glove for my feet shape. Waiting for the other color to go on sale, so I can buy another pair.
I love my shoes. 3 months prior to my purchase I had surgery on both of my big toes. I needed a good pair of hiking around town shoes for Greece and a little off the road hiking as well. I was afraid no shoe was really going to help me get through that trip that required some straight uphill hiking and daily site seeing walks/hikes. Turns out this was my favorite item in my luggage. My feet had some bad days but not so bad I couldn't recover with a good nights sleep with my feet up. 8 months post op and I still love this shoe.
I buy these shoes every year and walk, hike, bike, and live in them. I used to have foot problems with plantar fasciitis and lumps on foot, but not anymore! For the last 3 years I have been wearing these shoes. They are so light and comfortable. I do have wider feet and less arch and am 60 years old and buy them loose fitting. They also have super traction!!!! When the mesh starts wearing out on the sides toward the small toe, then I use them on my gardening jobs. I hike everyday and use them on the long hikes unless the terrain is rugged and wet then I will use my Keen heavy duty hiking boots. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these shoes and just bought my 4th pair on a hot deal at the REI store for future use.
I bought these shoes as an all-around walking shoe and absolutely love them! No more aching knees and ankles with these light weight, great shoes!
these shoes did not work out for me, the balls of my feet hurt while hiking, and tried with skinny socks and fat socks........also not aerated--feet too warm and sweaty, but they were stylin' ............
I have 20-30 miles on these Merrells and so far, so good. Hopefully, they will continue to feel as good as they do now. I plan to wear them on the Camino Fraces to Santiago.
