Fabulous sweater for campfire or at the beach or at home with temp turned down. IT RUNS SMALL. I'm 5'7" and 120 and my daughter is 5'10 125 and we both prefer a Large. (Normally we're both smalls on most shirts, etc.) If we really didn't want anything other than a T under it we might get a medium, but it's meant to be cozy (more than, ahem, flattering) so go larger. (No surprise that on the Patagonia site itself all the larger sizes are sold out. But REI has better colors.) My daughter and I both have the white "linen" which is lovely, and I also have a black. Favorite fleece(s) ever. Really. (And worth the price... and I shop eBay too.)
A must-have
We're headed to the mountains for a week and I don't own many warm clothes (ha, I'm a lame San Diegan!). I've been eyeing this fleece for my trip and luckily snatched one at my local REI in my size. I'm 108 lbs, 5'5 and purchased an xs. It has an overall fitted look, but is in no way too small. It's the perfect size. The small was definitely too wide and bunched around my waist - it did not flatter my frame. I would say the fleece is true to size, but if you prefer to layer or want a looser look, then I would order one size up! The product description says slim fit! It's warm and feels like you're wearing a blanket. Thrilled I have this for my trip!
So soft & true to size!
I worried about the sizing since it is fitted, but I ordered my size according to the size chart, and it fits perfectly. Ordering up a size would have been a huge mistake. This is not boxy like many fleece pullovers I've owned, and it's longer too (hits at lower hip area). The nice contours will make it easy to wear under a vest or a windbreaker/shell. I really worried about spending so much on a fleece, but I love this so much I ordered another one (on sale) the day this one arrived. It's so soft on the inside. I will be living in this thing. Time to clean out the closet & get rid of the other junky fleeces I've been settling for all these years...
So much fuzzy!
I recently took this fleece on a week-long backpacking trip near Bend, Oregon. It was great at camp and on an early morning climb up the South Sister on the final day. The shirt isn't at all windproof, but as someone that sweats heavily, it helped keep a nice balance between too warm/sweating and windburn on exposed skin. I really loved the large pocket for stowing things and rewarming my hands. The pocket is just mesh on the inside, so my hands warmed faster with a little bit of exposure to my body heat. The only downside of this pullover is the small neck opening. I had to pull it off a certain way and it still seemed to get stuck on my ears.
Cozy and cute
I bought this top just a couple of days ago, and since it is fitted, I sized up. Patagonia calls the kangaroo pocket a handwarmer, but to me it is a place to stash stuff when I'm out on a walk with my dog. It is very warm and flattering. I have a big head, but with all the snaps undone, I didn't find it particularly hard to get over my head, though my hair is never so "done" that I would notice if it got messed up a little. Once the wind picks up, I do find I need another layer with it, but when it is just a matter of cold temperatures in the high 30s, I have found this top (with a T underneath) to be quite warm enough by itself. I like it so much, I bought it in 2 colors.
New favorite pullover
I've been wanting a Patagonia pullover for a while, but was hesitant spending so much on a fleece. I finally bit the bullet, and am SO GLAD I did! It's so comfortable, and looks great both. I'm excited to wear it outside as the weather gets cooler, as well as for skiing later in the year. Currently wearing it indoors with leggings :) . I usually wear a S in shirts, M for a looser fit, and tried this on in S/M/L- the small fit like a nice sweater but would be hard to layer with, the large had a nice loose fit, but was a little too loose at the bottom band, and the medium fit perfectly with a loose fit so I can wear it over a t-shirt or a flannel, but still layer with a vest over it.
Versatile
I purchased this sweater a few months ago in anticipation for a backpacking trip in September at Yosemite. I didn't think I would get much use out of it before then, but I have been very pleasantly surprised at how often I've used this already! The fabric breathes really well, and yet is super warm, which makes it perfect for cooler summer nights. The kangaroo pocket in the front is super useful, and I love the mesh fabric on the inside; it prevents me from getting too hot. I also used this on one of our shakedown hikes/backpacking trips and it doubles as the perfect pillow at night (ie space saver)!
Toasty-warm fleece
I bought one of these last year and just bought my second. I pretty much lived in my first one from November through April because I'm one of those people who are always cold and my 1930's farm cottage in the mountains of southern Appalachia does not have central heat. With a lightweight base layer underneath, this fleece kept me comfortable both in my drafty house and on frequent 1-3 hour hikes. The high quality this item is typical of Patagonia and my original one looks practically new. The new one I just bought is the raspberry color and it is a very bright color. I would actually prefer something a little more subdued but it will be great for hiking during hunting season! For size reference, I'm 5'7 and 115# with wide shoulders and long arms; the size S fits me beautifully.
Super cozy, but very staticky
This pullover has almost everything going for it. It's cute, very soft, and I love the kangaroo pocket. It's super cozy and comfortable once it's on. But, as others have mentioned, the neck hole is kinda small, and unless it's raining or otherwise very humid (which it isn't often here in CA,) I can expect my hair to be standing on end once I've pulled it over my head. Admittedly, my head is somewhat large in circumference for the short person I am, so perhaps smaller-skulled people won't have this problem. But I do, and that's why it gets 4 stars instead of 5.
4 Star Review
I needed to size up in this nice product - for the bust area. The arm length is great. It's an awkward front kangaroo pouch in the front but considering this top it's not a bad thing. I like how the collar is high (would like higher:) ) and how it snaps vs the zipper. The material is brilliant on your skin and performs well - keeps you toasty roasty! They have some fabulous colors to choose from. You may need to try a few sizes to see how they fit on you - just due to the chest. Highly recommend!
