Gets so dirty

I really really love this coat. It is such a cute color and it's nice and warm! But yeesh, this thing gets SO filthy. Was this coat designed for people that wanted to simply feel like they were living an outdoorsy lifestyle? For the Gram, so to speak? Even so, normal wear is going to make this thing at least a little grimy. Any sort of grazing or brushing up against something that is even remotely dirty, and this material sucks it up like a sponge. I've cleaned this coat twice already, and of course, have to take special steps and use a special soap to do so. I've stopped bothering at this point. One week of normal wear looks like I've been gardening with it on. Next coat I am going to be very mindful of what the outside is made of. Would only recommend this coat if you live in a pristine environment.

Lots of pros and cons

Was a gift for my 5'2" 105lb adult daughter. She's pretty petite and needed a medium. So sizing runs small. Super soft and looks great, but we had to return the first one before it was ever used because the down poked through the fabric enough that it created a hole. She almost went with a different coat worried it would happen again, but like the color, look and feel of it. Unfortunately, it seems that the down poking through is happening again. She really likes the coat otherwise, but the outer shell may not be the best material. She lives in Colorado and says the coat keeps her warm in the cold mountains though... lots of trade offs for good and bad.

Like wrapping yourself in a pillow

The first time I tried this jacket on in REI i fell in love - seriously felt like i had put a blanket around me. I waited for months to buy (not an impulse buyer) and I'm so glad I did. The jacket keeps my torso incredibly cozy even amidst the great Seattle snow storm of 2019. The weight of the jacket is really nice, not too heavy at all. I personally like the mustard yellow color, it's more interesting than the classic blacks, greens and blues. I ordered an XS - I am 5'6, 129 lbs with athletic build. The sleeves may be the tiniest bit too short, but the small had a much wider body I wasn't really a fan of. The XS fits nearly perfect. Only thing missing is a hood!

Amazingly soft and warm

Highly recommend. My current criteria for buying something is “the store will have to pry it out of my cold dead hands” and after a day with this jacket it has passed! So soft (I have sensitive skin but this is silky smooth inside and out) and warm, I’m always cold indoors but not anymore. The brown is rich and orangey and I love it. Fit is nice, I’m 5’7, 130 lb, and got my usual XS in patagonia (31” bust and 28” waist). As other people mentioned the sleeves are a bit short and don’t cover the wrist. The torso is puffy but not shapeless and baggy. This would work great either hiking or with flats and nice pants for work. My primary use is probably daily indoors so we can leave windows open in our California “winter”.

Soft, super warm, amazing color

As soon as I opened the package and saw the color (century pink) I was in love. The jacks is SO soft. Softer than the nanopuff versions of down jackets. The sleeve cuffs are almost like woven silk items I have from Wrap London. I took the jacket for a walk to the store and I was actually overheating (granted it was 50 degrees and sunny but I wanted to try it out). I love this jacket, and it looks great with jeans, leggings, etc. I think I do need to buy a special down wash though. I don't plan on getting the jacket dirty (treating it like a sleeping bag). Totally worth it for the warmth. The only thing that could be improved is maybe a removable snap hood. I'm 160lbs and 5"6' with a stockier build and the medium fits perfect with some room for layering.

Color and Sizing Issues

Overall really like this coat. I really love how soft it is- feels almost like I'm enveloped in a blanket. I originally purchased a M and ended up returning for L for a slightly more oversized fit. For reference, I'm 5'6 and athletic, and fluctuate around 140-150lb depending on lock down day (lol), and normally wear a size 27/28 in jeans. I have an hourglass shape but am overall pretty slim in my upper body. First issue is that the black is not actually black, as you can see from the pic. It's more of a medium grey color. I even asked a couple REI employees and they agreed that it's more of a charcoal. I was really hoping for a true black coat, since I'll be wearing this mainly with black yoga pants, so this was an issue for me. Second issue was sizing. While I appreciate the length of the sleeves (so many coats make them too short!) this coat is really not meant for people with curves. I originally ordered the M, and this fit perfect everywhere except my hips. Personally I wanted something that looked a little more oversized, so I ended up returning in store for a large. I could have gotten away with a medium, but I wish it had just one more inch in the hip area. If you have more of a boxy shape or a longer torso I think the coat would fit better. I'm going to keep the L but probably won't buy any others from Patagonia.

Cozy, warm, and quiet

This is an amazing jacket -- so soft, so warm, and the great quality you'd expect from Patagonia. I purchased the blue and have already gotten compliments on the color. The only downsides: 1) doesn't have a hood, which is weird because the men's version does :( and 2) the front side pockets have a button closure instead of a zipper, which is a little inconvenient. But, still an excellent coat!

soft AND warm

I have been waiting a year to buy a coat. REI's fall sale is happening so in I went. I was disappointed with my last Patagonia down coat, and determined to buy another brand. But nothing compared to the fit and feel of this coat. I have also mostly sworn off of down due to the torture these birds undure due to human consumers.. This coat is all recycled down. Add in the 30% deal right now and there was no decision. I LOVE it. I am 6', 140# and got an XL so I can comfortably layer. I love the puffy look.

Great city jacket, light as a feather

I bought the Silent Down jacket in a mustard color the first year it was released. I do a lot of walking and birding in the city so got it as jacket for casual wear. The small was a perfect fit but I got the medium so I could wear layers under it. The medium was a bit wider at the bottom but that was not a problem even on the coldest days. It has held up really well over the years so I just ordered a 2nd one - the small size in black for a different fit and look. I have worn this jacket in 17ºF (with layers under it) but mostly when the temperature is in the 30s and 40s. This is a timeless style, practically weightless and toasty warm. The high collar is great for warmth. Another important feature is that it uses recycled down.

Warmth and Function

Winter came early to Eastern Montana the first week of November and this jacket arrived the day before temperatures dropped along with plenty of snow and wind. I was sooo happy to have this jacket! It got tested right from the start. I love the design with zipper(which functions smoothly) and snaps, sleeves were long enough for me and have elastic cuffs to keep snow out. I stayed warm enough for outdoor chores and walks and could wear extra layers underneath with comfort. The high neck collar is a nice feature too. I'm happy!
