Rated 4 out of 5 by from holy bounce batman! -as expected kids bikes without big cross tubes have to cradle on only one arm but they work. -my jeep liberty needed a 4" inch extension to get around the spare tire and the gate can open to about 45 degrees but i wouldn't get a bigger extension. -installs onto 1 1/4 hitch natively and can adapt onto 2" hitch -bike antisway and hitch tightener seem to work ok for side and forward motion -my heart can't take looking in the rearview mirror and watching 40" of rack and 120-150" of bike bounce up and down after every small bump. i can't imagine what the bounce would be with a longer extension. -prob best for road bikes with their light weights and cross tubes. family of 5, living in a world made for families of 4...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great choice for larger family There aren't many choices for 5 bike racks, and this one has proven solid. Installation/removal is very simple, and the rack attaches quite solidly--the screw mechanism prevents wobbling. It folds down when not in use (or when parked at a trail head) and tilts to allow access to a rear liftgate. The included lock provides some deterrence from casual malice, and also provides additional assurance that a bike won't work loose and fall off. Note that this product is designed for a 1.25" hitch, and comes with an adapter for a 2" hitch. This is contrary to the listed specs (which say that it is only for a 2" hitch) but great for the many people whose vehicles have the smaller receivers. You do want to make sure that you use it with a class 2 or higher hitch (probably what was meant in the specs) as the weight of 5 bikes could rip a class 1 hitch off your car. (Check for a "tounge weight" of at least 200 pounds--which likely excludes those with cars smaller than a minivan or SUV.) You can confirm the receiver size requirement by pulling up the installation instructions from the manufacturer's site.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very solid and easy to use Love the integrated locks. Rock solid on a 400 mile round trip last weekend. Probably could hold 5 bikes of similar frame designs. We have two adult and two kids bikes so it's hard to get them to lock together tightly. I'm glad we got the 5 bike model. Some kids bikes are a challenge to mount on this sort of rack due to the size of the opening in the frame. I have a frame adapter on order for use with the less conventional frames.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thule bike rake There are few 5 bike racks, and this one works well. Except the problem is if anything breaks. REI has great sale exchange policy but it is only for one year (I had also problems with Thule roof box, and I wish I bought it from LL BEAN since they have life long guarantee). In the middle of Utah of the screws located in the mechanism that hooks it into the car hitch broke. These crews are made with in metric system. You can't buy anywhere but fro Thule (weeks in shipping)!!!!! So be aware, otherwise great bike rack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best! It is absolutely the most stable and well built hitch rack I have ever used, the system they utilize to secure it in the hitch is rock solid, no movement what so ever. The stablizer attachments (included) for the bikes almost completely inhibit any ability to sway. Also comes with the converter for large and small hitches. Absolutely wonderful product!!!

We have a Chrysler Pacifica minivan. Can this rack swing and allow access for the liftgate to open?

Asked by: Core
This mount works if you have a 2" receiver hitch on your vehicle. Please note that the mast will not swing to the side of your vehicle as some do but will tilt away from your vehicle offering enough clearance to open the hatch.

What do I need to install on my vehicle to use this bike rack? Does the towbar assembly / hitch support beneath my car need to be installed by a 3rd party service before I can install this bike rack?

Asked by: drewva
You would need to have a 2 inch hitch receiver installed on your vehicle. We would recommend having the hitch installed by a professional.
