Poor Quality
I have bought many Merrell shoes and have been happy with this brand. However this pair is the first major disappointment. It was lightly worn, just for walking around the neighborhood a few times. The soles are already falling apart!
Best Shoes Ever
Never having been a fan of boots of any kind, I bought these shoes right before going on a quick overnight backpacking trip (8 hilly miles over trails, rocks, sand, mud, streams, etc.) and took my chances not breaking them in first. Within minutes of having these shoes on my feet I was walking in 2 inches of water and my feet stayed absolutely dry, and were still dry 5 stream crossings later. 8 miles later my feet felt great and not one sore spot, no blisters or sign of impending blisters whatsoever. I hope these hold up well over time because I will be using them a lot!
Great - Until they fell apart
These were great shoes. I got them for everyday outdoor adventures, working in the yard, and short hikes. They were great to hike in or wear all day UNTIL they fell apart not two years after I got them. And I rarely wore them in the winter. The sole around the toe came unglued and mud got inside. The most frustrating part is that the mud got inside the lining and formed a lump under my toes that I couldn't get out, it became part of the foot bed. In conclusion: if you want to spend over $100 on shoes that will be super comfortable but only last a few months of wear, these are the shoes for you.
I LOVE THESE SHOES!
I have owned these shoes for a little over three months now and I have been nothing but happy with them. I have worn them on numerous long hikes, short hikes, walks in the rain and in some very muddy conditions. These shoes make my feet happy, dry and warm. They are comfortable, provide stability and are waterproof - what more do you want in a pair of hiking shoes? I love these shoes.
Super waterproof!
I am a Gore Mountain Tech Member, and have owned these shoes for about 6 years now. They are not for your big hikes, but smaller hikes that don't take you that far. They are very water proof, and very durable. But sometimes a little too stiff. As with all Gore products, they truly stand the test of time and last!
Good once broken in
I have narrow, long feet so it is often hard to find shoes that fit well. I figured I would try these based on the reviews. I did get my normal size, however, they are a little wide (to be expected of most shoes for me). The first time worn was for a 10 mile hike through mud and water in the mountains. They held up well! Repelled water and mud and looked like new once finished. However, my feet were a little banged up since they were new and my feet slid around a bit. Wore for a 3 mi trail run, felt a little better and began wearing for long days on my feet. My 5th time wearing (3rd sports activity), the shoes were broken in enough and felt great. Did well on the trail and feet felt fine after a 4 mile run.
Great cross training shoe
Based on reviews I tried a 1/2 size down, but went with my normal size of 10.5. The shoe is light enough for jogging and extended trails. Took the shoe out for the first wear on a 10 mile hike in the mountains. After multiple puddles (water and mud) up to my ankles, my feet still came out dry and shoes look as if nothing touched them! Only complaint is the tongue on one foot was a bit funky and really bothered my ankle area no matter how I tried to position after tying. Also would recommend thicker socks if you have narrow feet like me. Otherwise, fantastic shoe!
Great look and very comfortable
Just really started wearing the shoes out of the store. I read from many other reviews that you might need to go up a size larger than what you normally buy, but I am normally a medium to wide 8.5 and getting the 8.5 was a perfect fit! They are very comfortable, good in the snow, very lightweight - so running is very easy to do. Have yet to run a trail, but looking forward to running all-terrain in Hawaii. I plan on wearing these during my cross-training workouts. I would highly recommend these as many others before me have. A nice shoe!
Better than Expected
I wanted a shoe that was waterproof, comfortable, looks good and supports the feet, for the active life style I have. With this shoe, I got all of that and more. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality, look and comfort of the shoe. After reading the reviews I was worried about the shoe size being too small, but surprisingly my true size of 9 fit best. With a person who has sciatic nerve sensitivity, I have to be careful about the fit of my shoes. I read another review and did as she did, while they felt fitted, I then walked around the house with them for a few hours and that was all that it took. Perfect fit. Shoe didn't feel too small, length was fine, just felt fitted. Then I went for a 3 mile walk on the snowy back roads and no problems at all. My feet felt great and dry.
The most comfortable shoes
I bought these shoes two hours before leaving for a camping/bouldering trip to W.V. to use as approach shoes. I was actually going to pick another pair after walking two laps around the store in them, but[...] I exchanged the inserts and voilà! My most comfortable shoes to date! I tromped around the mountains of West Virginia in sunshine and in rain and my feet stayed dry and snugly encased in these babies! I even woke up early each day to run in them because they felt so amazing!
