Rated 5 out of 5 by from Coming Back for More! I hike quite frequently. Sometimes I'm taking a stroll through the Sequoia National Park or I'm trekking way too much gear up the side of a mountain in Israel. It's important for me to not think about my socks or shoes once they are on. I want them to fit right, keep me walking smoothly and not be a distraction or irritation. These socks do just that! I just purchased my third pair of these because I won't go anywhere without them. I can't say I've compared them to other hiking socks, but these are dramatically better than regular athletic socks. They are soft, lightweight and comfortable. I'd buy another pair in a second.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not too hot, not too cold I have been using these for both short hikes and longer backpacking trips during the summer months, and I was worried at first that my feet might heat up too much being in a heavier boot with a wool-type sock on. However, this was not the case! My feet felt fine, and the merino wool wicks the moisture away from the foot very well. They dry quickly in the sunlight, the material feels very durable, and the sock comes up high enough above the ankle support of my boot where I don't have to worry about any chaffing on the lower calf/shin. I will likely give the taller version of these a try in my hockey skates and snowboarding boots this coming winter!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I never review anything. This might actually be my first ever product review. And for a pair of socks. Seriously amazing socks. Perhaps I am not using these as intended, but you can pretty much wear these socks for like 2 weeks straight without them smelling. I don't know why. But they're super comfortable, warm without being too warm, and you can wear them forever. So buy a couple pair and stop doing laundry.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Way too big! I bought several pair of Mediums 2 years ago (Note: Medium is supposed to be up to a Size 9.5, I wear a Size 10.5) and they were too big. Hoping they'd shrink, I kept them and washed them with my regular wash cycles, but they never shrank. Eventually I gave up and had to return them... for a Size SMALL! If you have feet smaller than a women's Size 9-10, don't get these socks. They will always be too big, and will bunch up and drive you crazy. ...but at least they wear well. After 2 years, my socks never wore down or got holes, they just fuzzed up a bit like wool does.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from nice socks Nice socks, comfortable. I wear these over another pair of tighter fitting socks (tekos) when hiking and they slide around a bit but don't seem to bunch up; I haven't got any blisters. They are sized too big so I had to buy a smaller size, I wear a size 13 shoe and at first bought the Large (9-12) and the heel came up above my ankle so I had to exchange for the Mediums (5-8.5). I think they're a bit too light, I'd rather have the heavier ones but they don't make those in a quarter length ankle, I wish they did. Overall it's a decent sock, could be a bit cheaper though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome socks I own multiple pairs of these socks and love them. They have served me well during winter in the Southern and Midwest US. They have been very suitable for: wearing around the house on a chilly day, with my service boots when I crewed an ambulance during the winter, in an academic science lab, and in my chilly winter office. They have minimal bulk and wear great under any shoes that are not extremely tight fitting. I have never put these socks to any recreational use, but for everyday wear, they are warm and comfortable. They will shrink in the wash, so if you have larger feet either buy a bigger size or take care in laundering them. I like both the crew and ankle lengths, though I find they have different uses. These socks are warm, all the time. If I goof and wear them on a day which turns out to not be very chilly, I regret it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good sock could be great if only... As a guy with small feet (8), I have spent years looking for socks that fit right, and these socks in Medium are perfect. I love the way they feel, thick and snug. What isn't so good is that they wear out too quickly - I wish this sock had a blend instead of being 100% wool (like my light hiking socks that are still going strong). The padding is also a bit bulky, and I feel the gap in padding under the ball of my feet - why not pad the the entire bottom or skip it altogether? Not a perfect sock but darned close.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from One Notable Problem I purchased and used at least 10 pairs of these socks over the last decade before finally looking for a better alternative. While all the socks performed well inside my shoes/boots and continue to do so, the Lycra/elastic at the ankle in ALL of the socks gave out quickly. It's a progressive problem, but the end result is that you have socks that are open to debris, bugs, etc. at you ankles, because they are stretched out. The only silver lining to this problem is that I can easily tell what socks go together by looking at how stretched out the ankle is.

Do these socks run big? Looks like a bunch of people said they needed to size down. I'm a size 7 (sometimes 7.5) - should I get the small or medium?

Asked by: Tina
These socks do run slightly large, but they do shrink a little as well, so we recommend ordering your normal size.
