Light weight and super warm
I'll admit when I picked this vest up I was a little hesitant on its warmth keeping abilities do to its light weight and fragile feel. Let's just say I was very impressed how well it works to keep me warm. This is a great little vest. I would think the full sleeve jacket version would be too warm for me on a regular basis in the spring time in the PNW so this is perfect for my needs of casual walking around and hiking in 40-50 degree weather. Over 55 degrees walking around I start sweating with this and a long sleeve shirt on. Very happy with this purchase.
Great Vest; Runs Big
I do like this vest. It is lightweight but provides some warmth for cool days. It is also quite packable. The vest is not insulated enough for super cold days, but for me it works best in the 30's and 40's (F). The black looks nice and can even be worn as casual wear. I wish it had a drawstring on the bottom to cinch it tight around the waist to keep in the warmth. And a chest pocket would also be nice. However, overall it's a nice basic vest that feels well made. NOTE WELL: the sizing of this vest is off. I usually wear a large in Outdoor Research clothing (which I have much of!). However, this large fits like an extra-large. So I had to do an exchange to get a medium. It's not the end of the world, but it's slightly frustrating.
What is going on in the fit department?
I have a pretty deep quiver of OR prods collected over the years and have continued to purchase and rave about OR products, however I am unable to recommend this product. The sizing is whacked. I am 5' 10" and 160 size Medium IN everything OR. This vest is HUGE at least a 40" circumference at the hem and the length takes it well past my hips WAY to long. It feels like the pattern was upside down, i.e., the tapper is at the top not toward the waist.... Unflattering fail that will keep me from testing or commenting on the technical aspects.

Functional Insulating Midlayer
I use this vest as extra insulation on colder ski tours and as an outer layer during spring weather. The upside of this vest is that it is light and can be packed down into itself. This is a good way to keep your pack from filling as you shed layers. There are two zippered pockets and two internal pockets that are good for stowing glove liners, hats, beer cans, and face masks. The reason for four stars instead of five is that the zipper on my jacket is stiff to connect and disconnect and that there is no chest pocket for my phone.

Inclusive sizing. Light and packable. Slow to dry.
Overall, I really like the SuperStrand products offered by Outdoor Research. I have a hard time finding technical products in sizes large enough for me, and I'm very thankful that OR provides a wide range of products that I can use. I bought the SuperStrand vest as a standalone layer for high-output, cold-weather activities. It's very light and offers a great amount of warmth for its size and construction. My only complaint is how long it takes to dry if it gets wet with sweat or precipitation.

Superstrand LT vest
Bought this to replace an old Patagonia puffball vest, couldn't find any Nano puffs in stock and this was my second option. I'm very happy with this piece, super light, packs down very small and is surprisingly warm for how thin it is. Great for days when I don't want to pack a full puffy but want something I can throw under a shell just in case I get a bit chilled, and it takes up no space in an alpine pack or even a running vest. I'm 6' - 170lbs and a medium fits perfectly.
Perfect Flex Layer
I am relatively new to the "vest game", so I was hesitant on whether I would like this product. After receiving it, I can confidently say this is one of my favorite "everyday" Fall-Spring garment. I typically wear this over my midweight flannel button up shirts, and I have found it to work well for casual wear between buildings and my truck. I have also used this item in conjunction with other cold weather layers during hunting season, and this thing kept my core warm when worn with my OR Shadow Hoodie and my Scent Lock Jacket. Its great, because when I layer up or down, this thing tends to stay on. It is light enough that it won't "burn me up" when I'm inside. I would not use this as a primary layer during extended periods of cold weather, but I would layer other stuff over this with confidence. Also, the grey color looks great.

Beware - Light color = "see through"
I think I understand why this was a close out item. I bought the yellow vest and because of the light material color, it is "see through". What this means is that you see shadows of the underlying insulation and it looks terrible when you wear it. It looks like it's spotted, stained or wet. It's a non refundable purchase so heads up if you buy it in lighter color. At this point I will only be able to use it under a shell.

Free Your Arms, Be Brave and Don't Buy Gray
Excellent light vest for keeping it flashy when you need that extra warmth but don't want to sacrifice arm mobility. Added to my wardrobe for winter mixed climbing after a few years of feeling like Ralphie from Christmas Story, and sweet mother of god the difference in comfort is a game changer. I stay just as warm, but don't feel like I have a wad of underwear in my armpits. Great stuff. Sizing runs a bit large - I'm 6'3" 215lbs and XL is a wee bit baggy on me. Great for layering over thicker base layers, but a bit loose if you're headed into the office to turn heads. On a side note, I tend to be pretty conservative with color selection as a white hetero dude - all blues and grays. Tried to go out on a limb here, and the warm yellow tones on this jacket make me feel like a little ball of sunshine. Nice pallet, OR. Thanks for giving the bois an alternative to the norm.

Efficient warmth
I am sold on Superstrand after this made the difference on Mt. Toubkal. It locked in enough warmth under my jacket to enable the summit in the middle of an October storm. So lite I don't notice it. Just wish it stuffed into one of the pockets and zipped closed. At least the pocket liner is detached on top to act as an internal drop pocket; which can be inverted and stuffed for packing.
