This will be my 3rd pair of these shoes. Extremely comfortable, easy to clean up, waterproof for those muddy days. I wear them for just about everything. Hiking, running errands, working outside, etc. The first pair lasted me 8 years and to be honest are still wearable just lost traction and worn around the heel. The 2nd pair the rubber started to delaminate from the shoe after about 2 years. Not sure if that is standard now or I just got a bad pair. I probably could have super glued the rubber back to the sole and continued to wear but I decided to try another pair. Hoping the quality of construction and durability matches the first pair I had.
Very comfortable right out of the box, but how long they last remains to be seen. I’ve owned several pair of Keen boots over the past 15 years. Unfortunately the durability and quality isn’t what it once was. My last pair of Voyageur Mid boots were returned following first use when sole lugs came off. Keen comfort can’t be beat, but the brand suffers from shoddy construction.
This is a very comfortable mid-weight hiking shoe. I used them to do a 8-mile hike on some tough trails and had great success. The trail was fairly rocky, but the shoes provided enough protection. What I was most impressed with was their grip on very steep inclines. At times there were 35-degree inclines on smooth rock and these boots did not slip. The waterproofing was also great and stood up to mud and streams. I did take one star off because after that hike the sloe started to come off the bottom of the shoe. On the plus side Keen took care of me, fast and easy sending me new boots.
I would have given 5 stars but the cloth behind the right heel is pulling away from the body of the shoe after using the shoes for only a few weeks. But I like the shoes well enough that I plan to exchange this pair for a new pair.
I love how comfy the Keen hiking shoes are. This is going to be my second pair. They are so comfy I wear them to my office job. The only con I have is the tread pattern is a little light. I think this shoe works best for general to moderate hikes but if you start doing more advanced hikes, may recommend getting something with a little more grip, especially in rocky, wet areas. The tread wears out quickly and used up the tread within one year of purchase.
Targhees are my shoe & boot of choice. Love them. Keen warranty has served me well when one pair delaminated. Great CS experience. The Targhee 3's are a bit different, watch video. My dog walking has changed from all grass & dirt surface to all pavement, the existing Targhee 2's sole collapsed sooner. So switched to the Targhee 3's. The Targhee 3's have a firmer sole and synthetic upper. So overtime the shoe does not conform to your feet. Comfortable, not as much as leather. After 2 months the sole wear has been excellent. On the other hand, have noticed wear that usually takes months in a Targhee 2 has appeared in Targhee 3.. My heel bones are misshapen Targhee is the best design for my feet. Yet the 3's show wear sooner. Added heel pads, as I do to all my shoes, even Howser slippers. Still the best shoes for my feet. Ordered Targhee 3 slip ons for Christmas.
This pair seems much stiffer than my last two pairs. They also ran super big. I typically wear an 11-11,5 and with these I had to make several orders, starting with 11 then 10.5 and finally settled on size 10. Good quality shoes for sure but not the best I’ve had and I’m not sure what’s up with the sizing.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I ordered size 8.5; however, the shoes feel like a size 9. I haven't been able to wear them because they feel too loose on my feet. There is too much space between my heel and the inside back of the shoes. I had ordered another pair of shoes from you in the past and didn't have issues with the fit.
Shoes have a much better fit but the fit around the ankle has changed. They are now fit higher, about one half inch. It hits my ankle has takes some getting used to. Actually made me quite sore on initial use, a six mile country walk. Much better now after working on top edge of the shoe.
I've purchased several pair of the Keen Targhee over the years and still own most of them. They are great for hiking but also work well for outdoor construction work and landscaping. Supportive and comfortable right out of the box without a breakin period.
