The clothes are very light and provide great warmth
I have owned my thorium for four years and it is one of the most used jackets in my closet for all types of outdoor activities in fall, early spring, and winter season. This jacket is very warm, repels rain and snow, breathable, and fits perfectly as a layer under my Beta AR shell in cold fluctuating weather. From snow sports layering to hiking and casual wear use, the thorium is an excellent versatile jacket with a true to size fit. After four years of heavy use no issues with down feathers coming out. I look forward to Arc’teryx releasing a dark navy color in the thorium in the future.
couldn’t be happier with the Thorium Down Hoodie! The quality is outstanding – from the durable materials to the solid stitching, it’s clear this jacket was made to last. It's incredibly warm, even in cold, windy conditions, and keeps the chill out without feeling overly bulky. The fit is slightly oversized, which I love; it allows for easy layering underneath and gives a comfortable, relaxed look. It’s been perfect for outdoor activities and everyday wear, and I appreciate how it holds up against colder temperatures. Overall, it’s worth every penny for anyone looking for a reliable, high-quality down hoodie. Highly recommend!
The down hoody is exactly what I need for the 20* f days with colder north winds, for walking the dog, hiking the trails and gravel roads. I layered with a wool sweater which became toasty warm mid hike. I am concerned about the seams keeping the winds seeping through over time. So far so good, though. The hood does cover the chin when fully zipped, a tuck of the ends is necessary when only partially zipped. Overall, the cozy pockets hold a phone, gloves, dog treats and zip closed. I’m pleased with the sleeve length, it is long enough to tuck hands in to stay warm without gloves. Fits perfectly for 5’2” height.
I bought this coat because I needed something warmer than my arcteryx atom. I like that the hood covers your whole head and the length is long enough to just cover the butt. It keeps me nice and warm. The only thing I wish, is that they made the shape of the coat slightly more flattering. It's quite boxy. It also fits larger than other arcteryx styles. I'm an xs in the atom heavyweight, but in this coat an xxs would have had a more flattering fit, unfortunately because of the boxy shape, I had to purchase the xs to make sure it would fit around the hip area, leaving it quite spacious around my upper body.
I bought this as a replacement for my other Thorium AR that was destroyed in the wash. The quality is great, but the revised fit is awful. It's *huge.* I'm consistently a medium in all Arc'teryx products and I would have to size down to a S or XS to make this fit. It's also very, very long in both the torso and the arms. What's odd though is that the new cuts don't fit in the shoulders properly -- the whole jacket moves if you move which means it's not good for much other than sitting around a campsite or strolling in the city. This isn't built for movement. I am 5'10" and 135lbs for reference.
Brought this piece for my lady and she is absolutely pleased with it. As a stand alone she says it’s great, coupled with the kyanite hoody. It’s comparable to a suit of armor. Warmth, stand alone in 25-30 degree Fahrenheit with a windchill and a real feel of 20 does the trick just fine. We’re both pleasantly surprised by its pack ability. Only complaint is the hood, but to be honest it just may be knit picking at that point. She said and I quote “I wish the hood and the collar wasn’t attached.” Other than that great jacket. Maybe the only down you would want to own outside the Cerium.
This is a very good fit for 5'10 180lb average size male. The Thorium medium size men version does not give much room to layer, and the large size men has arms too long. Women's XL arm length is just right and has room to wear a turtle neck or thermal, maybe even a hoody shirt, which would be needed. The fabric is much sturdier than cerium. The neck fit issue can be resolved by flipping the hoody a bit outward, then the collar can be laid flat against the shoulder. My hood is pretty big and can accomodate a hat or thinner helmet. I am satisfied with the fit, and will need to test this in some colder weather. I took a star off because the down panels are large horizontal tubes, I wish there were threads separating the down compartments into smaller square sections. I can foresee an issue when washing this, the down will get bunched up inside the long tubular sections, and there wont be an even distribution of down after the wash, it will take much more effort to redistribute and fluff the insulation. You may end up needing to use more tennis balls and longer time in the dryer.
The length is good, covers my butt. Sizing is good, generous. Warmth is good. Here's what I don't like: First thing: Fabric is see through. It is not white. Looks like camo. Can be a style, if that's what you're going for. But definitely not white. Only the shoulders and cuffs are really white. I think they doubled on the material in these spots. Second thing: I don't like that the logo is not on the chest anymore (but it still is on the men's version??). Just put the logo back where it was! Not on the sleeve, not on the cuff, not on the hood - on the chest!! Third thing: collar definitely is an irritant. You can't not zip it up, it doesn't lay down properly. Honestly I think I'll return for these reasons.
i really like my new Thorium jacket. it's very warm and there are lots of pockets for all the stuff i need to carry. i love the fit of the hood, and the arms are a tad long, which is a great feature. the hips are a bit snug, which is why i only gave it four stars. the description mentioned the jacket fit larger than the previous edition so i was surprised at the snugness. i would have preferred a little bit more room. i love the jacket though and will get lots of use out of it. i'd recommend it for sure but would suggest you try one on in person before ordering online.
