Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Toe box isn't wide enough

Not sure what Altra is doing with the toe box recently. My 4.5 Paradigms are much wider than this 6 version. Plenty of cushion though for my taste. Just wish they were wider.

Altra falls apart fast compared with Keen

I purchased a pair of Altra Paradigms in the middle April of 2023. 4 months later they are already wearing out. The heel cups are disintegrating. Each heel cup now has a hole. In comparison my 10 year old Keen Targhee III has its heel cup still intact and almost like new. I wore these Keen shoes for many years then used them as my gardening shoes. This shows that a company with integrity can use quality materials that last. Look at the PHOTO of the Keen grey heel cup. That heel cup is 10 years old and still going strong! The shoe itself is still structurally strong. (See PHOTO of my old Keen) These Altra shoes are supposed to be designed for Ultra marathons. Good luck with that. At 50 miles you may have holes in your heel cups. One would expect quality materials that last. There is no excuse for using poor quality construction in a shoe that boasts about being innovative and used for long hard races. It just shows you that a company can spend lots of money on slick videos that show down to earth dudes talking with pride about the groundbreaking designs and features of their shoes, and then the same dudes make the shoes fast and cheap with second rate materials. The Altra shoes not only have the heel cup disintegrating, but the whole shoe itself has lost its structural integrity. After only 3 and a half months these Altra shoes have lost their structure. The soles flop and turn. Other parts of the shoe have lost strength. These Altra shoes have become not unlike Grandma’s sad tattered and collapsing old bunny slippers. Also, the tongues of the shoes constantly slide to the side. Maybe the geniuses at Altra can find an innovation to stop that. (Hint: Look at every other running shoe in the market.) This is another structure and integrity problem. They call their designs “groundbreaking,” that’s because when you use them on the ground… they break.

Comfortable shoes, BUT - fell apart

Love my Paradigm 6's, but the soles came unglued. I reached out to Altra and they said I could return for a full refund. I thought I'd try to use super glue and repair the soles. Worked for a week, but now both shoes soles are falling apart. I think I just got a dud, but never had something like this happen on running shoes. Again, super comfortable. Fit perfect. Love the wider shoe base and the zero drop shoe design. Will buy more Altras in future. Just my 1-off experience!

Blisters, every run

These shoes have given me some of the worst blisters in the arch that I've ever had. I have the lone peak boots, and the solstice for crossfit, both great shoes. I bought the paradigms to try and replace my Brooks Adrenaline however, the paradigms did not work for me. There is a strap that runs along the arch, up the inside of the foot, through a 'sleeve' of fabric. This fabric bunches along the insole causing rubbing. You can run the trap out of the 'sleeve' but then you have the strap edges acting like a seam. I keep trying to find ways to make these work and not blister, but after a handful of runs it's becoming to much of an effort.

Great hardpack shoe

At first I got this shoe for a road/hard pack trail shoe and it turns out that it's great for both! I am a 12 regular, 6'2, 200lbs and this is a great amount of cushion. I have had a pair of the Lone Peak 6 for a couple years now and I absolutely love them for all things trail. Only reason I am not giving this a 5-star rating is because I seem to be getting hotspots on the balls of my foot. This may be part of the break in period. Altra meets my needs and beats out competitors for their Zero Drop technology. Cheers

No accountability for their product's quality

I'm a long time customer of Altra brand and I'm mostly satisfied with the quality of the shoes. As you can see from the photo of me wearing my Altra's I had a total knee replacement therefor I do no do any kind of sports at all. I wear Altra brand only because they feel very comfortable and ease my pain when walking. I have reached out to Altra and requested to get a new pair of Paradigm 6, I assumed that the warranty will cover it since those shoes are made for runners and I can barely walk. Surprisingly I was wrong, according to Altra it is my fault for the wear damage, I guess the at my age I still haven't mastered the art of properly wearing running shoes ... So just an FYI, if you are a runner considering to purchase Paradigm shoes, do not be surprised if those shoe give up easily, after all it gave up for a disabled person that can barely walk

BEST SUPPORT , A BIT NARROW , CHEAP RUBBER .

Best stability technology I ever tried , help me reduce pain of my Shin splints . Altra should release the Original fit of the Paradigm because it a stability shoe , the upper is made with premium materials and Very disappointed with the OUTSOLE quality , The rubber is already disappearing with only 17 Km . compared to the Ahar+ Or XT900 Altra should deliver a solid rubber as a lot of people having the same issues .

Best pair of Altras so far.

I’ve had 12-13 pairs of Altras and have a love-hate relationship with some of the “features” they’ve introduced over the years. These are my favorite road shoes by far. The toe box is great in typical Altra fashion and the soft tongue is much better than the rigid tongue they’ve have with some styles. The connection points for the laces on the uppers are also great and secure.

Doesn't Last!

These shoes are great in regards to fit, comfort and support. The issue is They Don't Last! The tread is bald after 200 miles of walking-not running on nice pavement. A shoe this expensive should last more than 200 miles before it's worthless. The upper is in fantastic shape, but the shoes must be thrown out because it's dangerous now with little tread left-not good.

wishful thinking

I been with ALTRA since the original Instinct,I've seen the first TORIN and the first Paradigm, all have been getting more narrow over the years, ecspecially in the midfoot,Altra needs to offer wides for every shoe, midfoot also not just the toebox.the Paradigm 6 is close to perfect, cushioning much better than HOKA.For a stability shoe though,it needs to accomodate flat, wide feet better, more space in the midfoot and toebox.Glad there's no medial post, the upper is combfortable.Shoe is not too stiff or too flexible, good shoe overall, needs more width overall for flat, wide feet. Most people requiering stability have flat, wide feet and are injury prone

Paradigm 5

After reading several reviews on the Paradigm 6 on how it was made narrower than the Paradigm 5 I decided to look on line for a Paradigm 5 and ordered it. I've owned several Altras over the years but went back to Hoka because they started making the bondi in a 4E width. I will tell you I love the Paradigm 5's width so I will be afraid to order the Paradigm 6. I guess I'm writing this to stress to Altra that some people would also enjoy the choice of your shoes in a wide width especially us guys that train for marathons and would enjoy a little extra space. I love the looks of all the Altras but sure would like some wide widths in the future.
