Great!

I wanted utilitarian shorts that was also low key in terms of design and this Fjallraven shorts fit the bill perfectly. The front upper pockets are about average in terms of depth. You can fit most things like wallet, phone, and keys no problem. The lower side pockets are about 6.5 x 3.5 inches. For reference I can fit my iPhone 15 with a case inside the side pockets but it's a bit snug. As for sizing, I personally went up a size. As per another reviewer, these run smaller than what's advertised on the sizing charts. I initially wanted a size 50 (US 34) but I ended up buying the 52 (US 36) which fit me just right. For reference, the 52 (US 36) is actually about 33-34 inches at the waist when relaxed and 36 inches when stretched.

Great shorts, sizing is smaller than normal

Really nice material, quality, and style. The sizing is off though. For example, the size guide on the REI website states that a 48 EU has a 33.5” waist. But the tag on the shorts says 48 EU / 32”. And the actual measurement of the waist is closer to 30”. This may be because of the stretch. But you may want to size up.

Perfect for hiking

This is the way I like my hiking shorts - minimal pockets, no extraneous flaps or pulls, close leg openings, and fitting without a belt. Fjallraven is of course an excellent brand, and I expect this to be as high in quality as my other clothing from them. Just enough stretch to move with me, while the pockets can hold most items, but stay out of the way if empty. Works well with a lumbar pack.

A great product but limited

These are very nice shorts, fit well and made of really great material. But...they had no back pockets! I see from other reviews that some people really liked the fact that they have minimal pockets but the lack of back pockets significantly reduced the versatility of the shorts and when and where I would wear them. I reluctantly returned them. If they had back pockets I would have bought multiple colors - liked everything else about them that much! PS - as always, great customer service from REI in accepting the return!

Sizing?

Im a fan of Fjall pants , thats a thing of the past , because the las two items i bought , this short (that i had to return and reorder)and the new vida pro light trousers. Both are absolutely off in sizing.I dont know what happened but if you would be buying a 48 now you have to go up a size at least.Be warned!

Fit incredibly well, super comfortable

I was sceptical based on reviews, but these fit incredibly well. They’re sized accurately, but not vanity sized. They have a perfect length, what feels like good material and stitching, and a very nice amount of stretch. The zippered pockets are also perfect for being sure that nothing falls out, as well as giving the shorts better fit and form. We will see how well they hold up over time.

Poor fit - women’s fit - skin tight

Horrible fit. Size 29. Elastic waistband at back makes it a women’s fit with super tight waist and skin tight hips/quads. My fave shorts of all time are Abisko Light and my size fits almost perfect with a bit of room for a belt. The same size in these is comical. However, they fit my 15 y o daughter perfectly. Again a women’s fit.

Nice Shorts, Too Small

I like the shorts but the sizing is too small - I would absolutely order one size up.
