Great pair of shorts

These have become my favorite shorts for backpacking and hiking. They are super comfortable, stretchy, and lightweight. They are also good as just a casual short for around town or at home. They breath super well and have held up great so far on a number of hikes and backpacking trips. These are a great short for anybody looking for a stretchy, lightweight, and breathable pair to use in the mountains or during the hot days of summer. I was concerned about the fit because OR's pants tend to lean towards a slim fit. I'm slightly big around the thigh and these shorts still fit me great. I'm 5'6, 160lbs and the 31 waist and 10" inseam fit great.

These are great, don't believe the bad reviews

All the complaints I read about the shorts were from people that were bummed that the shorts were changed. This is my first pair of these and I really like them. The size feels true to fit in the waist, having the option for belt loops or the built-in drawstring is great too because the material does stretch out a bit over time. i bought these in a 31" waist when i measured my own waist at about 30" and sizing feels good. For reference I also bought the equinox shorts in a 30" and HATED the sizing and had to return them. I hope they last a long time cause the material does feel a little thin, so hopefully they hold up. Otherwise the OR guarantee is great!

Comfy but flawed

These shorts are very comfortable, have lots of stretch for mountain scrambling and biking, breathe well, and look good. Unfortunately the material doesn't seem very durable as it's already pilling along the pockets and seat. The front pockets are also too wide and shallow so items easily fall out when seated with a slight angle back (like driving or sitting up in a tent). I have 10-year-old similar shorts from a competing brand that are better in all those respects. These could be great so hopefully they'll improve them in the next design phase but I would not recommend purchasing these now if you plan to use them for a long time like I do with my apparel.

Pockets Too Small

I generally love these shorts. They have been my only shorts for many years now. This year's version of the shorts still fit good for me but the pockets suck. They are too shallow and cut too low. Every time (not an exaggeration) I sit down my phone falls out of my pocket. I have had some ferrosi pants a couple years ago that have had a similar issue (not as bad though), but the current pants pocket is great. As much as I love these I am very hesitant to order more until they get an update. Great shorts but I would skip them if you plan to have a phone in your pocket. I hope you don't end up with a cracked phone like me!

Was looking for a replacement for a pair of Contour shorts and OR recommended these (Ferrossi). While these are a decent pair, I like the Contour way better: -Material- the Ferrossi material is SUPER light weight. Which is great on hot days, but I preferred the slightly more durable contour material. -Fit- the Ferrossi are a much looser fit around the thigh and hips. Would almost say they run larger. I normally wear a 32" waist, and the 32 Ferrossi need a belt to stay up. Other things the Contours did better: -pockets (stuff doesn't fall out like the Ferrossi ones) -belt loops (wide rear mid-loop) -Snap button Wish OR would bring the Contours back.. pleaseeee..

Some good revisions but mostly a regression

A few things are improved over the previous model but it's mostly a step backward. They fit smaller than before and the lack of a gusseted inseam greatly reduces mobility. I tried sizing up but ended up with a loose waist with still a tight fit in the hip/thighs. I'm sad I couldn't make it work. If they do fit you they're now better for casual wear than for hiking or climbing. The thigh pocket has been fixed over the previous version, it's no longer raised and has a nice depth. The fabric is still the same awesome Ferrosi fabric which is super breathable, stretchy, and durable. I just wish they got the fit right.

I'm torn on these shorts

I love the fit and feel of these shorts. Love the drawstring so you don't have to use a belt. After I received the first pair I immediately ordered another. Then I had the opportunity to really wear them. They are great for hiking, with the fit and stretchiness. My only complaint, and it isn't a small one, is they stain incredibly easy. I got some suntan lotion on them as well as some polysporin from a cut, and they are now permanently stained. So while I would have used them as daily wear, I can really only use them for hiking now with the permanent stain. Very disapointing.

Perfect outdoor shorts

I LOVE these shorts, and perfect for normal outdoors-ing and travel. The Ferrosi fabric is durable but super lightweight and comfortable, the pocket arrangement is perfect (thigh zipper on the side, not encroaching on the front!), styling is streamlined, and they are offered in smaller sizing. Despite my waist measuring at 30" I find most shorts & pants listed as"30" really fit more like 32 and super baggy, so the fact that these are offered in 28" is exactly what i need. I wish OR offered more of their products in this size - or actually changed their measurement guidelines.

Lightweight, breathable, comfortable

I have Ferrosi pants which I love. These shorts are basically, the same, but short. Lightweight, breathable. They have water repellent treatment, so small drops of water are just rolling over fabric. After they got wet, they are drying really quick. The material is stretchable, which makes them comfortable to wear. It also is very thin, to the point where it looks fragile. However, I didn't have any issues so far using them for hiking, walking with a kid on a playground, riding a bike, going on a beach. I ordered the same size as my Ferrosi pants and it fits perfectly. For me it is the same as my jeans size or other pants size, so I would call sizing very accurate. It's my go-to shorts, and I'm happy with them.

Great shorts

These shorts look fantastic - enough so that they can easily pass for business casual - and perform extremely well. I've hiked and biked in them and love them for both activities. Particularly with biking, the material interface between the pants and the seat surface can be a deal breaker, all other things being equal, and the ferrosi material excels in this realm as with so many others. I have another pair of ferrosi zip-offs that I've solely used as shorts for 7 years now and they're only just now starting to show their age - I expect a long life out of these too.
