Buyer Beware

These socks were decent until one battery died. It was under warranty by Hotronic but their policy is to process the warranty back through the dealer you bought them from. REI wanted nothing to do with this and referred me to another online retailer, the Warming Store. They wouldn't process anything not bought from them. This has left me scrambling to get a warrant replacement for an expensive product. If you buy these socks (they are good when the worked) do not by from REI. Buy them from a Hotronic dealer and confirm that they will assist with the warranty if you have an issue.

Socks

Not worth it for the price. Can buy 10 from Amazon instead of putting these big boots on. More like Kayne sock shoes with ankle monitors. Might as well go and buy a heating pad from Walmart and wrap it around your legs cause you’re going to have to get a bigger shoe size if you plan on leaving the house with these on. Like these guys really came up with the idea of selling the world’s most expensive sock. You can definitely be sure none of the proceeds goes to any charity.

Great for fly-fishing

I’ve been using these for fly-fishing for several years and I just bought a backup set. There may be some misunderstanding about this product. If you set them to high setting you will get noticeably warm feet but you’ll drain the battery in a few hours. I find that if you set them on a low setting your feet won’t feel all that warm when wearing at room temperature but it’s enough heat to keep them from getting cold during 5 hours of immersion in 45 degree water ( inside waders). I haven’t had to use them for skiing but I expect it’s the same - set low to prevent long term chill from setting in. If you want to fiddle with it you can jockey settings using the app however it won’t connect while your feet are underwater (duh). One other issue I ran into. When I got a new phone the batteries didn’t show up in Bluetooth discovery. I had forgotten there is a specific procedure for that ( series of key presses on the batteries documented on HOTRONIC site). The sock themselves have been reliable. I occasionally wash them on delicate cycle. Overall, I recommend. But only 4 stars because they are so expensive.
