Stainless shouldn't rust
Used a few times and the stainless is rusting more than it should.
Great idea but function poorly
I have tried many hand warmers. Really trying to get away from disposable but these rechargeable are not the solution. I have been working to figure out how to make these work well. First the cool setting is useless when it is really cold. Knowing that the hot setting will last 2 hours or less I have carried multiple warmers, however, even fully charged I have two units that just do not work. 15 minutes is what I got from one today after just taking it off the charger fully charged before I left. I am going to give it one more chance. The other one lasted two hours as it has on 3 previous occasions. Additionally the hot setting is too hot to keep next to skin. To make it work I have been slipping it in a soft sleeve. Annoying but it works. So the final decision will be if the unit that has quit working does not work tomorrow, back they go
Knocks Mr. Buddy Heater out of the park
Total game changer. I retired my Buddy Heater after just one trip with this. The adjustable tripod places the warmth exactly where you need it, and the heat output is significantly higher. Plus, the wok feature means I can go car camping without a propane stove. If you are on the fence about upgrading, just do it. Product request: a heat deflector accessory that screws into the top handle mount, and carrying bags for the heater and the wok.
Handy
I’ve been using these for resort skiing on cold days and winter hiking, and they’re working out really well. The high setting gets really toasty to the point that I don’t want them right against my skin, but it’s great for rapidly warming really cold fingers and would probably work really well if your gloves have a hand warmer pocket on them. The low setting is almost unnoticeable at first, but definitely helps sustain some heat as long as it isn’t extremely cold. That said, I wish they had a medium setting that would provide a bit more heat than low but last a lot longer than high. Nonetheless, these are great to have stashed in my ski pack (as long as I don’t forget to charge them).
A+ for intention, D- for practicality
I am an avid mountain climber and am typically on mountains and glaciers a few times a year in sub-zero weather. As I get older, my fingers tend to get cold even as I wear two-glove systems while climbing. I was excited to try the Ignik Ripple Rechargeable hand warmers and expected my hands to stay reasonably warm while recently climbing Pico de Orizaba in Mexico, the third highest mountain in North America at 18,500 feet, for the second time. During our summit push, we were facing 30 mph winds and sub-zero degree temperature, an ideal situation to try out my new battery powered hand warmers. I had charged all eight of them before leaving home and by the time I was getting my kit ready for summit day three days later one of them was already completely depleted. I figured I had enough warmth to carry still having 7 of them available and fully charged. As we climbed in the middle of the night, I began sliding the Ignik hand warmers in the cup of my palm, in between my glove liners and thick gloves. Two problems became readily evident, the lower heat setting wasn’t warm at all so I had to keep it on high, and the rigid plastic casing was in the way of a good grip on my trecking poles/ice axe. The high setting only lasted about 30 mins for each hand warmer, forcing me to cycle through all of them within two hours, barely enough time to make it to the glacier part of the climb. I ended up having to switch to the regular, sand based hand warmers by the same brand. These kept a good level of warmth for about four hours each and are flexible enough to mold to the palm of your hand and around anything you need to grab as you climb. I give Ignik kudos for trying to innovate this essential piece of equipment, however it is clear that these battery powered hand warmers were never intended to be used far outside the family camping site. I’ll keep them for my kids and will continue to look for a better solution for true mountaineers. I do not recommend buying unless you’re thinking of using them for low-risk recreational activities.
It’s like Ignik reinvented the hand warmer!
We haven’t had the chance to use these much yet, but so far these are what I’d expect from Ignik and for the price tag. While these may be right sized for gloves, they’re also good for pockets and just holding in your hands. They’re not bulky, they won’t accidentally get turned on easily, they heat quickly, and can last all day on low. I especially love the case and charger - great for travel and to keep them from accidentally getting activated while packed.
More is better!
I bought the 4-pack, but I can already tell that I should have bought the 6-pack. Charging them all at once is the game-changer. They have been great so far. They get hot so fast, and are so small I actually bring them with me. Can't wait for the snowboarding season. My family will (and already) love these!
The best
Everything Ignik makes I own. Best brand! These are amazing. Like wild amazing. Instant heat.
The perfect camping combination.
The build quality and thought that went into designing the Skullet system is really top notch. This one is perfect for when the family camps with me to provide 3 dimensional heat and a nice large cooking surface, otherwise I can use my Firecan Elite for quick solo trips.
Confused
I was under the impression that I could fill my empty green tank with this one. It doesn’t hook up to anything I have that takes the green bottles. Can someone explain what’s the purpose? Is it the exact same as a normal lp tank just smaller ? No special hookups ?
