I do not recommend this product
Do I recommend this product to my friends or family members? I do not think so. Look at pictures after using this product for commuting 3 days a week for 11 months. Is this really waterproof? In my experience, I doubt it; my iphone and my wallet were moisturized.
Not waterproof, Great size and lightness
I have used this fanny pack on a few travel trips since June. So the fannypack has gotten about 6 months use. Positive it is is a great size as I carry a larger long wallet with protection in it. The material appears to be a coated nylon' with taped seams to keep it waterproof. On the first trip we did not have much rain and there were no issues. I just got back from another trip and the bag had wetted thru plus the coating had worn off in many places. I am going to keep the bag because of its size but the next waterproof bag I get will not be a coated nylon or any coated material but some type of plastic to actually keep things dry.
Mostly good with a couple issues
Needed a bum bag for a week hike. Snacks, map, wallet/passport, lip balm, etc. Lightweight and waterproof, but big enough to stash my camera if it started to rain. This fit the bill in every way... almost. Easily held my map, small notebook, pencil, wallet, passport, a couple small snacks, and had enough space to stuff my camera in if need be. Unfortunately ... the waterproof only held up to a light shower. A full day of Scottish rain left everything inside damp; glad I'd dry-bagged the camera and shoved that in my backpack instead of in the bum bag. That said - it's the best option I could find for a water-resistant lightweight bag to keep small things handy.
NOT waterproof
I was happy to see a lightweight waterproof Fanny pack. I wanted to use it for small items while paddling. Well, it is not waterproof. It was splashed (soaked) and the fabric got really wet along with the items inside the pack. It may be water resistant but certainly not waterproof. It is a great lightweight, stylish fanny pack and I will continue to use it in conditions where it will not get soaked.
Not Waterproof
This may be weather resistant, but it certainly isn't waterproof. I didn't fully trust it right off the bat and I'm glad I didn't! I planned to use this to keep my passport, id, etc. on me while on a snorkeling trip in Columbia next week, but noticed I could squeeze it lightly and it would lose air. To test it out, I put a piece of paper inside the "waterproof" section, zipped it, rolled it over 3 times per the instructions, and attached the snaps. Then I put it in the bathtub with a coffee mug on top of it to hold it down and left it there for 30 minutes. When I took it out, I could feel the water sloshing around inside. The piece of paper was completely soaked and the fabric appears to be fully saturated. Don't trust this in the water.
Kept my stuff dry! Not crazy ergonomic though
I VERY much took a chance on this product as it had no reviews and it was one of the only two waterproof packs on REI and the cheapest…customer service rep said you can’t go wrong with Matador so I tried it out. Survey says: I LOVED this. This thing saved my week in Costa Rica….I was stepping off a boat after a Catamaran, and I fell in the water off the boat (at the shore while exiting) with my rope bag and everything (containing the pack). The phone and wallet and money inside the Fanny pack stayed completely dry. Would have been a disaster otherwise for the week! I gave it four stars because wearing it isn’t super comfortable and the straps are really hard to adjust (they kept getting stuck and required two part feeding) and it sits just a little awkwardly on my waist (could be my beer gut though!) - the main pocket kind of doesn’t tuck in very well. But I still recommend buying it if you want a cheaper option and only wish to buy from REI as I did (I had REI bucks and a gift card…). But as a pack you can carry your stuff in to the beach or something it works great and keeps everything dry. I also didn’t get much time to play around with it before my trip to Costa Rica, so take my comments about the straps with a grain of salt. I haven’t used it much, so I’m hoping it remains durable. I’ll update if anything happens.
Excellent for Day-to-Day and Travel
I first started using this as a sling bag for day-to-day use and travel - then after I had a serious surgery - this has been my go to for carrying my my basic EDC items when I leave the house (Wallet, phone, mask, epipen, keys). It's lightweight - which was great when I was on the move. But now even more appreciated post-surgery. It sits well on the hip and is easy to adjust. Zippers have always been smooth and I've found it pretty easy to adjust with the standard waist/body strap and the adjustable straps closer to the bag help for quick adjustments if the bag feels to tight or too loose against the body. Moving slower now, the waterproofing shined when I found myself caught in a healthy rainstorm. I was drenched, but my items were perfectly dry. I'm looking forward to using this after healing and taking it on some proper adventures.
Quality Issues
Quality issues with the seam taping. The sealing tape over the seams is peeling off in multiple locations after a couple weeks of moderate use around the city. Didn’t notice until it was lightly splashed and found water inside. Saw other bags in the store that also had this issue, so seems to be a manufacturing quality issue.
Great waterproof bag!
Great bag! We tried to get a waterproof bag for diabetic medical equipment. Most of the waterproof bags are super heavy and would trap too much heat in for the equipment. This bag is lightweight yet stood on edge of pool, got splashed(soaked really) yet kept equipment bone dry. I wouldn’t submerse it, but it certainly did exactly what we needed! Thank you!
Lightweight, Packable, Adjustable, NOT Waterproof
I bought this bag about 18 months ago for a trip to SE Asia where it's always raining. It's a great size, packs easily, and is lightweight. I like that it's very adjustable with separate little straps to keep it upright. I can wear it as a hip bag or a sling bag. I'm an extra large and it fits me with plenty of room. Unfortunately it's NOT waterproof and now all of the lining has peeled away...as others have said. I won't be using it during the rains anymore. Great for dry runs.
