Broke On First Use
I was excited for this compact waist pack. Upon first use I put in my phone, keys, and a small coin purse in the pocket close to my body. I had to snap in the coin purse and the snap broke when I undid it for the first time. Not elated with a product that breaks on the first use. I was new to this brand, but I think I'll go back to the brands I'm used to. I could use it with a broken snap, but it makes me weary on the workmanship. Side not --- this pack is compact, but had it been just an inch larger, it would've been wayyy easier to get my phone in and out. Such a tight fit.
THE PERFECT PACK FOR ME
I was looking to declutter my pockets. I really only needed to carry three things - one or two sets of keys, my wallet, and cell phone. A wind breaker with three pockets or a small fanny pack? With summer coming in hot Sacramento the pack was the right choice. But there are so many to choose from. Mystery Ranch was the right one for me, and it’s also made to sling over the shoulder. The mini-pack snugly holds my wallet in an inside zippered pouch, and my phone and keys in the rest of the space. Perfect. We’ll constructed. Light and compact, holding my essentials. And love the color choices. Thank you.
EDC bag / man purse
I bought this bag after down sizing from another fanny pack that wasn't too big but had me carrying extra stuff to fill it. This bag I originally thought would be too small but it's a great grab and go. The swivel buckles also make it easy and comfortable to wear in different scenarios. I find around my waist is still my real favorite but as a cross body you can just toss it on as you're out the door and not fuss with any clips. I carry keys, wallet, battery, charging cable, hand sanitizer, chapstick, eye drops, ear buds, a gerber dime multi tool, and USB drive. I find i still have a little room to fit something else about cliff bar sized. I even attached a flashlight to it with a QD swivel. I love the yellow because I find my bag at a glance even in my mess.
A little tight
Bought this pack for wildland firefighting. It works well for shifting those pocket items to the waist. It fits and blends in well over the fire pack’s waist buckle. It’s a little tight but fits a notepad, 2 pens, small flashlight, phone, leatherman multitool, some granola bars and a can of dip. It’s really nice to clear the pockets out to for when I’m hiking around for the day, and keeps sweat and from destroying my phone and notepads. If I could change one thing about it, it’d be to add another two inches of width and lower profile buckles. Other than the brief struggle to jam my notepad in, it’s great.
Excellent, small bag
As one would expect, this Mystery Ranch pack is very well designed and made. It is a wee bit smaller than I thought, and the larger size is larger than I need. My wish is that you made a size in the middle. I also feel that the snap on the inner area is not really a viable way to keep something. I would never trust a single snap for such a substantial opening. I suggest Velcro or better, a zip. As a current owner of a Dana Design Astralplane from the 1980s, I cannot say enough about the great products that have come from Dana Design and The Mystery Ranch over the years.
One of my favorite bags EVER!
I’m always searching for great bags for my different hobbies/needs. While there’s no perfect bag, this one comes close. My iPhone 12 mini fits well in the rear snap section, the zippered mesh section inside helps keep some items under control, and it’s a small enough bag that the main pocket works well for dumping in the items you need when traveling light without it just being complete chaos in there. I can fit in everything I need for a day out in this bag with the exception of my water bottle. Fantastic execution. There’s others at this price point, but this is my favorite.
Flops and folds in half
I have a few hip bags and this is the most poorly designed. The attachment points for the belt are in the center causing it to want to fold in half and flop. The eberlestock and osprey both have a better option at the same price.
Good with one flaw
I generally really like this. It's pretty small, which is what I was shooting for. I don't want to over stuff it and have it be heavy with unnecessary junk. If you did stuff it to the max it would still be very comfortable because it is generously padded. Mybi g issue is the adjustment straps which, once cinched down to the correct size, leave 2 long flapping loose ends. There are loops to retain the excess strap, but the straps fall out of these loops too easily, so I'm debating stitching them in place.
Perfect size for me
I wanted to get a small and understated pack and this one is just the right size. Just enough room for keeping a iphone mini, wallet, keys and pen in a secure place. The regular size forager is probably better if you have a larger phone or more items. The build quality is top-notch. The only trouble I have is with fiddling with the strap slack a little when I put it on. There's probably an optimal way to use the retention bands to make it work better.
Small but carries everything I need.
I wear this crossbody style, but it works comfortably as a Fanny pack as well. When it came in the mail it was a little smaller than I expected, but it fits everything I need it to and is comfortable even when it’s completely full. The only issue I have is pretty minor and easy to fix; sometimes the inner zipper rattles by itself or against something inside. I’ll probably end up pulling out the pull tab and replacing it with paracord or something.
