Great little bag.

I use this primarily for riding my dirtbike. I do 1-3 hour stints and carry about a liter of spare fuel, a liter of water (in a soft bladder), my phone, a snack, a small groover kit incase nature calls while on the trail- as well as a small (very minimal) first aid kit. The bag is very comfortable and stays put while riding. I really don’t notice it’s there anymore. Coming from a small pack this is a great upgrade for mobility. Even in fast whoop sections I am tuned into what’s ahead- not what’s on my back. This bag is small so intend for that when purchasing- I have a little room left and will put together a very small tool kit to fill in the nooks and crannies. The outside water bottle sleeves are small and though they fit a half liter sized Nalgene bottle- My use would have my bottles lost in a hurry as there is not a way to secure them in other than the elastic. Even boony scraping while hiking I would be concerned of having the bottle get lost. These need webbing to tie in the bottles. (The reason for not 5 stars) My wife and I go backpacking in the summers here in the Tahoe area and intend to have this as an add on bag to use for day hikes when leaving our base camps. Though I haven’t used it for this use yet I’m sure it will perform swimmingly. I think the coolest part of this bag is that the Black Hole Series bags are made of recycled plastic bottles. What a great idea. So while you are passing the gapers along the way you know you’re doing your part in collecting their mess!

Much smaller than advertised

Specs say it is 16 inches long. That is the length of the back pad. The bag is only about 10 inches long. It says it holds 5 L. No way it does - much smaller than that. I bought it to hold a lot of gear I like to have handy on a hike but not carry a big pack. Very much smaller than expected. Very disappointed. I have other Patagonia Black Hole bags and like them.

Versatile Pack for Hiking and Fly Fishing

I bought this about 7 months ago after searching for a waist pack I could use with my pocket-less waders. I already had tried the 1L patagonia waist pack but it was too small for anything but trail runs. This pack is perfect for what I needed - roomy, durable, and comfortable. I frequently use it when hiking to alpine lakes without my waders to fish since it can fit a wind breaker, some flies, and a water bottle/sawyer filter system along with attaching my rod case and net. The loops and straps also allow me to hook things like my net, forceps, and knife onto the straps while I'm fishing. When I put on my waders, it's easy to adjust to a bigger waist size and I can twist it around me when I need to swap out flies. I did a longer hike this fall and needed a day pack for gear and was able to put the day pack above this waist pack so I could also bring all my fishing gear along. Above all my other fishing gear, this was the best purchase I've made.

Bought this for day hikes

Bought this for day hiking but found it too small to be of use. It is well made and fits the waist comfortably but just doesn't hold enough. It is quite pricey for what it is.

The perfect waist pack

The two water bottle pockets, one on each side, are the primary reason for my choice of this product. I own several Black Hole duffels, and i like the material and construction. This pack is well designed, easy to access, and well organized for multiple activities. I will use my new Patagonia waist pack for trail running and dog walking.
