Not very rigid - failed during highway use
Purchased because of the low profile design and T-track compatibility. They look really sharp compare to other J style racks. The locking hinge mechanism is not as strong or rigid as I would like. It does not lock solidly in place in the folded or unfolded position - there is a lot of free play in the hinge. During a long trip on the interstate one of the rack's hinges broke and collapsed causing me to nearly lose a kayak. Proceed with caution.
Another great product from Kuat - love it!
As an owner of a Kuat NV 2.0 bike rack, I didn't even consider other options when I bought my kayak. This was super-easy to install and adjust. I especially like that the straps get held at the top of the rack when loading the kayak (they can drop down on J hooks). Also love the velcro straps that hold the excess strapping in place. After transporting the kayak it's also super easy to remove the racks in seconds.
Kuat Class 4v2 Kayak Rack
Overall, I received three sets of these stylish Kayak racks. The first issue was, one of the two original boxes were opened, used and missing parts. The customer service department tried to resolve the issuse by sending me another set of racks, this box was opened used and missing parts as well. It's been over a year of use and I thought I'd review what I kept. The design of the racks looked impressive they are quieter than the last rack system. Unfortunately two of the four racks are falling apart from use. The set that I don't use as much still has the rubber bumpers and the magnets are still strong and they open and close without issue. The side that gets heavy use is losing it's rubber bumpers on the cradle, the magnets holding the racks closed has lost it's magnetism and allows the rack to vibration while closed. The last issue is the latching system that allows the racks to open and close malfunctions 80% of the time the only was to operate them properly is by force and wiggling the latch.
Very nice rack
Very nice. Super easy to install. Well made. Great to use. Once fitted super easy to removal and replace racks with no further adjustment. And fits a variety of rack styles. Holds boat nicely. May need longer wrench than provided to obtain need torque on some screw
Great purchase.
Bought this for the obvious reasons: I have a new kayak and needed a carrier. This carrier has thus far been a great purchase. it folds down to be streamlined; easily opens and my kayak fits wonderfully on top.

This is more of a buyer beware for Kuat products as a whole. I rarely leave reviews unless either item(s) poses definite issues or are really good. So here we are... Aesthetically, these racks are very nice and the idea behind them is genius. Folds for low profile for less drag while driving and looks wise, would come off as a quality product. Here's where my major issues have lied, and this is with almost all Kuat products I've encountered so far - quality control. I own Kuat's NV 2.0, their Grip 6 and (2) of the Class 4v2 kayak racks. Almost all have come in extremely scratched, cracked plastic, warped, you name it. This isn't an REI or other retailer issue as much as it's a Kuat quality control and packaging issue. This has had me repeatedly go to and from the stores to get replacements until I've found an actual good or at least a lesser damaged item. I've actually given up and just gotten some stuff buffed out at a professional detailer and ceramic coated (they were that bad still). The detailer stated as well that for the price, he was blown away by how the items were being sold/shipped/delivered. Specifically back to the kayak racks though.. The first rack came in cracked down the plastic. The second replacement rack came in all warped on the bottom and wouldn't even mount. The third rack just came in two days ago and won't stay closed in the down position. This poses an extremly annoying issue while driving down the road - just slapping with every bump you'd hit. Now I'm onto waiting for the 4th to be shipped to my place. I've been in contact with their warranty department as well (mind you they have great customer service!), but this is also where I've been running into the latest issues. I am now a few thousand in and months out from still receiving all of my items new and not damaged from the original date of purchase. I assure you, I'm not just being picky here. I bought brand new items for a decent chunk of change that I want in brand new and perfectly working condition. Not a tall ask. I truely hope I'm just the overly unlucky one here having these issues, but otherwise at least consider this before buying any of their stuff prior to maybe seeing it first. Good luck!
Great Roof Rack
This is the simplest roof rack to install. Looks great, has a locking mechanism and opens very easily to loads your kayak.
