Firstly, if you are wanting to transit two kayaks on this set your expectations low. You'll need to buy straps and padding to make sure the second does not get damaged. If you want to transit two kayaks buy a system that has full structural support for two or two individual systems. The only other issue is the straps. They have no branding or markings to identify that you have the same side of the strap. This may seem minor but securing your rig takes time and figuring out if you have the right side can waste time. I'm going to buy a second rack and I'd buy this system again.
This mount is super easy to use and dont mess up the look of your car if you care at all. They are sturdy and I havent had anything break on me after using it more than ten times so far.
This was working great until the screw broke that holds the rack to our bar. We can use a rachet strap, but for an over $200 rack from Thule, I was expecting greater longevity. Not sure if we just got a defective one, but I'm hesitant to recommend based on this failure after just over a year of very light use.
Poor design that will not last. Ordered two sets. First set installed easily. Second set the tightening screw stripped. Took an hour or two to get them off the rack. Ordered replacement set. Went to attach the first set this morning and noticed one of the tightening screws was stripped. Had to cut the mount off the roof rack. Returning both sets and buying a kayak trailer.
I love my new roof rack and kayak rack systems from Thule. Service was good and the product is everything it’s hyped up to be. It was easy to find the right system for my vehicle, easy to order and install. I had a question about my billing and it was answered promptly. What they said would happen happened and all was good. I would definitely recommend dealing with Thule.
I’m first feel nervous and worried about new put top with kayak. While i was drive depend Mph 65-70 none problem. They are very smooth and not fall or shake none. There is great the product.
The Hull - a - port is easy to install. Takes a few minutes tops and holds my 10 foot kayak securely to the roof of my crosstrek.
The Hull-a-Port XTR is simple and easy to use. We've had one for years and recently purchased a second since we now have 2 kayaks. Thule have improved the two things that bothered me: the attachment to the rail and the clip to hold the tie-down straps. The new rail attachment uses a strap passing under the rail which works much better than the old pincer mechanism. On our old Hull-a-Port, the tie down strap would always fall out of the holder at the top of the loop, the new design fixes that problem by narrowing the gap.
I was not able to reach the two kayak option because it is so far over my car roof, and the rack itself is a bit loose when you snap it into place. However, it did hold the kayak in place even in a good wind.
I (female 5’6”) use this rack to transport one 11-ft. flatwater kayak with a 2022 Honda CR-V. I drive on the interstate up to 70 mph and the kayak remains stable and the straps don’t loosen. I follow the installation instructions in the manual. The kayak weighs 55 lbs. and the listed weight limit of the factory-installed crossbars the rack is attached to is 100 lbs. If I’m lifting weights regularly, I can stand beside the SUV and lift the kayak over my head into the rack. If I’m not regularly lifting weights, then I’m not strong enough to load this way without scratching the vehicle with the kayak. So, I load by placing the kayak parallel to the SUV on top of a ladder, then climbing on top of the SUV and pulling the kayak into the rack. I put a yoga mat on top of the car in case I drop the kayak. I unload by standing on the back car seat, pulling the kayak backwards, then standing behind the SUV, pulling the kayak back and lowering it to the ground. The rack takes less than five minutes to install or remove and hasn’t damaged the paint on the crossbars. I’ve used the rack in the rain and it appears to be in good condition years later.
