Solo Kayaking!
I've never been able to kayak alone because I couldn't load my kayak alone. I just bought the Handroll and the Deck Hand, and voila! I can put it on and take it off easily. I'm only 5'2, so I have to use a sturdy step stool, but I think this is great.

Mounts nice but should roll better
The rollers don't roll very well. Should be better for the money. Next time will look for another brand.

Don't roll nearly well enough, my boat just slides

Bought these for a sailing canoe that weighs around 75-80 pounds. They seem great and sleek but the rollers are NOT smooth at all, it actually takes quite a bit of force to get them to turn. The first time I put my boat up on the roof rack, it actuality slid along them instead of making them roll. They also don't articulate as much as I need them to. Will be returning and getting the Sweetroll instead. Also, these don't come with a front cradle for the boat, so you end up purchasing 2 items, which is an added annoyance. They attach very well to the aero bars, so at least they look good and are easy to install.

Helper for an Old Guide

As an aging (gonna be 73 in the next couple of weeks) Maine Guide, these handroll racks, along with their companion deck hand racks, make it easier for me to load my kayaks onto my pickup cap for transport.

These will extend our kayaking years!

For years we’ve relied on the Yakima J racks to carry our 16’ & 17’ CLC wooden kayaks. Last year was the first year we had difficulty lifting up onto the racks. We’ve replaced them with the HandRoll and Landing Pad combinations. This past weekend we hauled three vintage fiberglass sea kayaks that a friend gave us 80 miles to our home. He helped me load the third upside down between the two on the roilers/pads. They didn’t move a bit even with driving at 65 mph. I was able to easily unload all three by myself. We couldn’t be happier with the system.

Great product

This unit combined with the saddle is an excellent way to get your kayak on top of your car. However I do think the J-hooks seem a bit more secure.

REI Let me Down

I ordered these with a pair of deck hands as a set for my Kayak. 3 months later I get a refund for the rollers and REI tells me they are not carrying the hand roll any longer and now I’m stuck with just the deckhands. I called multiple times during those 3 months asking when I would be getting these rollers and REI just kept telling me that they were waiting on delivery. Terrible customer service and for a company that sells kayaks and such, they should know and stock their products better. Now I need to return the deck hands and start over with a different system.

Hand rollers work well…

These replaced an older version I already had. They were previously named Hully Rollers no doubt a play on words. The attachments they currently feature are much better for what I needed for the aero bars on my vehicle. These are much the same as the older ones but with parts better designed.
