My go to outdoor shirt!

This is my go to shirt for recreating and teaching outside, I can roll the sleeves easily and it's light and comfortable. I also love them for travel, yes them, I have three. They dry quickly and I have done a couple sink hand washes on the road. I'm 6'3" 277 lbs and the XXL is comfortable for me, I could loose some weight to loosen it up around my stomach. All and all a great shirt for us bigger hikers.

cons/pros

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This shirt is really not all that breathable, and I find it takes forever to dry. The back will get wet beneath my backpack (to be expected). When I remove the pack for a lunch break (etc.), the shirt is still not dry after a half hour, and I'm in an arid environment. Confusing since those are supposed to be two benefits of the Astroman fabric. I am female, but bought the men's because I wanted snaps (not buttons) and did not want the side/hip pocket that comes on the women's (interference with backpack). For these reasons I like the shirt better than the women's. Unfortunately, the above issues make it a one-time purchase that I wish I could return.

A Light Button-Up

I have been using this shirt for a year, mostly as a fishing shirt on cooler summer or warm shoulder season days. It layers well over a wool base layer on cooler days, but also breaths well enough to be used in the heat. The down side is that, as with most synthetics, it does begin to smell if used for backpacking. The colour blends well with most surroundings making it a good option if stalking wary trout, but not great if you need to be evaced of a mountainside somewhere. I am 5'11" and 160 lb, and the medium fits well. The only drawback is that the mid-rift is very baggy relative to the fairly trim cut of the rest of the shirt.

Time Magazine Shirt of the Year 2024

I picked one of these up recently on clearance and was amazed by how great comfortable and breathable it was, making hot and humid days along the gulf coast manageable instead of miserable. The fabric also seems to be odor-resistant/antimicrobial to a degree, as the shirt smelled relatively unworn after wearing it twice between washes on hot days (probably aided by the fact that I didn't sweat much while wearing it). It performs comparably well to the REI Sahara shirt I picked up a few years ago, but with a much higher level of comfort, and a much more sleak/form-fitting design that is great for everyday use. I would say that you could probably get away with wearing it (the off-white patterned version) in a business-casual setting (some emphasis on casual). It's a high price for a shirt, but it's probably going to be my favorite article of clothing for the next 10 years at this point, and the construction seems good enough that it could feasibly last a good amount of time with regular use.

Nice shirt but material is NOT durable

I own 7 astroman shirts. Great shirt if it would hold up like it used to. I've had the l/s since 2019 and it looks terrible at this point. The original astroman s/s from 2016-2018 have been worn a ton and still look great. The updated (since 2019) super lightweight, silky and stretchy material feels nice but does not last even 1/2 as long. It pills within a short time and then starts to lose shape - sagging around the pockets and sleeves and stitching. It looks so bad now my wife doesn't want me to wear it. It's been worn a lot but not enough to look like this. I'd rather have the slightly thicker original material than have shirts that have to be thrown out after a few years.

Comfortable, but not durable

Received this shirt as a gift and was initially very impressed! Material was light, and the slight stretch made it very comfortable. After a few days of use, the hems at the sleeves started delaminating (forming bubbles between the fabric layer), and a few wears later the collar did the same. The material started pilling after the first wash and after owning it for a month, the shirt looks ready to be disposed of. I had hoped this would become my go-to adventure shirt, but its lacking the durability and reliability I've come to expect from outdoor research. Pros: - comfortable - breathable - lightweight Cons: - falls apart after a couple wears - not mosquito proof - retains odors

Maybe perfect.

Awesome for hot weather hikes, dog walks and even a night out. Thought the super light fabric might cling to my (ahem) "curves" and show off every one of my manly body hairs...but no...could easily wear it out with a nice pair of jeans. It does get a little funky after extended wear, but took a lot longe than I thought it would. So perfect I bought another.

New favorite hiking shirt

I wore this shirt hiking in the Utah National Parks this month and it was the absolute best piece of gear to bring. Quick drying, incredibly breathable, and protected me in the 85 degree sun. I wore it most days while wearing a pack and there’s absolutely no pilling on the fabric where the pack made contact

Great Sun shirt

I purchased this shirt for a river trip in summer in southern utah. It worked wonderfully. I stayed cool, despite the high temperatures, and still felt stylish. My wife loved it so much she wanted me to get one for her too. I have two short sleeve astroman shirts. I actually like the long sleeve one even more. I feel like I could do a small in the shirt sleeve, but the medium fits me perfectly (5'10" 165#). The shirt is well made and will last. Took it on a rugged hike sliding down sandstone and bushwhacking through cedars without showing any wear. Kept me safe. Would recommend.

Good shirt, however, it will only last one season!

I bought this shirt before the summer backpacking/hiking season started. It is a GREAT shirt; looks good, feels good, works well (keeps you cool). UNFORTUNATELY, it appears to be made from hopes and dreams...for the shirt began to melt and fall apart before halfway through summer. Mind you, backpacking days were only 4 trips about 4 days each, the rest was day hiking. Sadly the shirt will probably last only one more season--if the wife allows it. Damage: weird bubbling around the cuffs, lots of parts where its getting fuzzy/worn through. (Sadly I am at work and can't snap photos!)
