Outdoor Research  Echo Quarter-Zip Shirt - Men's

I was excited for a new daily wearer for my mountain adventures. Unfortunately this shirt is not it. On my very first day in the shirt I lightly brushed up against some spruce trees and the fabrics pilled and pulled out like its made of tissue paper. Extremely poor durability. I think the durability is so poor that I wouldn't even recommend it in the city or for jogging. It'll fall apart in no time. Will be returning.

Super fragile shirt, handle with care. Keep away from velcro at all costs. Was excitedly heading out for a paddle with my brand new Echo shirt, it touched a live of velcro on my dry bag and immediately pulled the fabric, less than ten minutes of wear. While my dissatisfaction with the fragility is high, its ability to keep the sun off me in hot weather was really nice.

I like the cut and fit of this shirt. Unfortunately, the stitching is less flexible than the fabric, leading to broken stitches. I lost the bottom hem of my hooded Echo shirt the first time I pulled the shirt over my head. The fabirc caught and pulle against my car's seatbelt, and now it has a run in the fabric. I have an Echo Hooded shirt that had the same thing happen when I washed it. These shirts cost too much to be this fragile. I would hate to see what happens if I ever go backpacking. I have similar shirts from other manufacturers, some I have had for well over a decade without this type of wear and tear. This garment runs similar to all other OR sizing. I wear an XL in all most manufacturer's but I am a XXL in OR sizing.

Great fit, great breathability and dries faster than anything else, lightweight and comfortable fabric. I haven't found a better shirt for intense activity. Arms stretch to be pulled up -- initially tight, but will continue to stretch to the point of falling down after a few hours. Arms reset nicely when laundered, essentially back to original. The current thumb loops are a significant improvement from the previous design, particularly when pulled up. Only concern is the shirts slowly and progressively shrink with gentle laundering (cold gentle cycle in a delicates bag, hang dried, no heat) -- I imagine that's unavoidable with the design tradeoffs, but would love if there was a solution. Obviously they'll snag and form holes with rough use.

I love these shirts, and I own four of them, but that's only because two of them sustained substantial damage and pretty rapidly. They're very comfortable and I wear them in a variety of settings, especially for hiking in the heat. The only thing I can't stand about these shirts is the fact that they are so delicate. They snag relentlessly on the smallest of things, if you aren't obsessively filing your nails to polished edges, you are bound to snag it. It can be a long streak or small 'pills'. There's no washing instructions that I can find, and my roommate ended up putting one of my shirts in the dryer on accident causing big dark splotches of melted fabric to appear all over the shirt. Never put these in a washing machine and always use an individual laundry bag for them.

This shirt is amazingly lightweight and is perfectly designed for the intended purpose of wearing for sun protection. However, it is not durable. I bought one from REI and it arrived with a hole. I then bought one from Amazon and it arrived with loose threads and the beginning of a hole. I have recently ordered one more from REI as a third chance. I sent the first two back. OR makes great products. They can do better with this shirt.

A lifelong lover of the Echo collection! Some changes to the design include a change in regular size. Was typically a large in echo Q-zip, but now a medium fits me. The large feels like an XL. The dimensions, especially in the shoulder width & body, are not the same as previous versions. All of OR's updated versions have undergone weird sizing changes. That is my biggest gripe. Still a fan of the product, just try it on for size.

the most breathable sun shirt in existance, and the fastest drying one. spf 15 blocks 97% of sun, which is all you need. This is the number one sunshirt recommended on R/Ultralight, in conjunction with the Sunday Ultra Adventure Hat. The zip long neck + hat combo keeps you way cooler in the summer than a sunhoody ever could, and this combo is one of the lightest that provides full sun protection.

Almost the perfect technical shirt. Almost. The fabric is spectacular. Excellent moisture management -- the best of the best. Durability is a concern, but for me it's a worthwhile tradeoff given the exceptional performance. The fit is the persistent problem: I've owned three generations of this shirt, and none of them has been quite right. The current design is boxy and large - too loose to function ideally as a base layer. Despite the performance-oriented fabric, the shirt fits more like a casual/lifestyle crossover piece. The cuffs on this version are lower-profile and the neck is no longer oversized (both are improved), but it still doesn't quite hit the mark. There are closely comparable pieces, using functionally identical fabrics, with superb fit and finish, from two other manufacturers that I know of. Unfortunately, those alternatives are ~30% more expensive. If only OR could nail the fit...

Super lightweight and great wicking ability. Had a warm fall in Calgary and had a couple of chances to try this top out before pulling out the winter gear. Performed well, stay out of brambles because the material pulls easily! I gave 4 stars for that reason. Otherwise a fantastic top that should serve me well. I'm 6'0" and about 160lbs. and small fit well.
