My daughter (2yo) has used this helmet for a year. She wears it whenever she’s on her scooter or balance bike. We have no complaints. She doesn’t mind wearing it and we haven’t had any problems with it ripping out any hair.
Terrible
The helmet is hot and bulky, there are plastic tabs in the inside of the helmet that rip the hair from the scalp every time you take it off. The buckle design is annoying.
Hard to get on and off
I bought this for my 11 month old granddaughter, and it is big on her. I get that all babies are different sizes; she weighs 20 pounds. We solved the problem by putting a regular hat on first to fill up some of the space. My biggest problem with this helmet is the clasp that holds it on her head. It is magnetic which seems convenient, but when she is thrashing about wanting the helmet off NOW, it is REALLY hard to move it the right way to unclasp it. I will say she is a VERY opinionated baby that wants what she wants NOW. Maybe if she was a bit more mellow the helmet would be easier to get on and off.
AWESOME! Durable, fits well, easy on and off
LOVE these helmets - fit well, hold up and last! We've had several of these. Our little guy had his Lil Nutty from age 0 to 4!! We started biking with him around age 1, and his helmet still fits. It comes with thick and thin pads, and we just changed out the pads from thickest (you can even purchase thicker) to thinnest (which you can also purchase thinner). We have not had any issues with the buckle. Going on 4 years, it's working great. Easy to slide open with just one hand so you can hold your little one/bike with the other. Honestly, Giro and others just didn't fit his head well.
Buckle falls apart
I have had 3 of these for my littles. Two have had the magnetic buckle fall apart in about 1 year from purchase.
Magnetic Clip is Junk
REI needs to stop selling this helmet with magnetic attachment. I’ve had 3 break at the same spot in 2 years. The magnetic clip breaks off. The first one I tossed. Thinking it was us. The second REI replaced. The third I decided to just bail and buy another helmet with a traditional clip. Nutcase has opted to reinvent the wheel and in place of a tried and true approach, they’ve decided that a saltine cracker is clever. Just buy a helmet with a traditional clip.
