woom  READY Helmet - Kids'

Not long after buying this helmet my son grazed the visor on a ledge at the park (no big deal). However, not only did that minor incident take a gouge out of the foam visor, it also disconnected the basket of the helmet from the shell. This was concerning because if a minor incident led to this disconnection, what would happen in an actual crash and how would that protect my child’s head? Doubly disappointing because REI stated it’s a one time use item and cannot be refunded. I’m not sure why woom would choose to make the entire visor out of foam, but I will be avoiding such construction in the future. Very happy with the woom bikes and very unhappy with the woom helmets.

I bought this helmet for my 2 year old daughter - she loves wearing this and riding her bike. It offers excellent back of head protection, is easily adjustable, is easy to put on and take off, and stores easily. I haven't experienced any durability issues so far. This is the third child bike helmet I've bought - I also purchased the previous version of this helmet from Woom. I think they've improved upon the ear loops (reflective and a slightly more comfortable cording), the magnetic chin strap clasp, and the adjustment dial. I'm not a fan of the new foam visor design, but haven't had an problems so far.

Very disappointed with the construction and durability of this helmet. Based on reviews others have had the same issue with the visor being a very weak point. Our broke the week we got it. REI would not return or return stating it is not a manufacturing issue but I disagree especially based on these other reciews (that I wish we had read before purchasing)

My son has a large occipital bone and every other helmet slid off he back of his head and exposed his forehead. This helmet fits perfect and doesnt slip. He also can put it on and take it off himself. Super pleased!

I cant say enough good things about this helmet. It fits so well and covers so much better than what weve had before. The adjustments are so simple. Also, two of my kids are girls and often have their hair up in different ways. Im able to adjust their helmets without having to take their hair down or compromise the fit of the helmet. I bought 3 of these helmets but am going to buy a fourth for my oldest son as well. I didnt think he needed one, but after getting these helmets I think Its worth upgrading his as well. I just wish Id bought him one earlier with the others to take advantage of the discount when i was buying a bike at the same time.

We have lots of kids’ helmets and some that are theoretically safer, with dual-density EPS, MIPS, Wavecel, carbon fiber — POC, Specialized, Sweet Protection, Bontrager.. But the attention to detail in this deceptively simple helmet is so kid-friendly, so easy for a 4 year old to put on and take off, and the head coverage is better than anything we have that’s not full-face. The ratchet on the back is so easy for my son to adjust it — big, textured, audible clicks, totally locks the helmet in place, and the no-pinch buckle is perfect. I got this as my son’s second helmet after he wound up in the hospital after taking a hard fall on a scooter at school recess. He went over the handlebars at recess on his bike with this helmet and gave it a big thumbs up. I carefully inspected the foam for any damage, because I’m happy to pick up another when needed but it still looked good. Woom’s first helmets failed Consumer Reports testing, and with this second try they nailed it. Cons: Not dual density EPS. Pros: Everything else. However, there is ONLY one kids' helmet on the market that is e-bike certified (NTA 8776) and this isn’t it. That's the Ozmo Sidekick. We just bought 2 of them but haven’t tried them out yet. Maybe REI will stock those soon — they should. Looks like it’s got most of the same positives with more protection.

This helmet was clearly not ever tested against actual children. They will rip the helmet off in the cage will shred itself outside of the foam 

WONDERFUL helmet for my oversized 9 month old (who wears 18 month clothing)! He's big & athletic but his little mind is not always up to the challenge -- he can fall backwards and slam the back of his head hard, faster than I can react! So, I looked for a helmet with excellent back-of-head coverage, and I feel that this is the best, or one of the best, there is when it comes to protecting the back of the head! It has already proven its ability to provide great front, side and rear protection -- it's pricey, but it's worth it! The fit to his head is excellent, with awesome adjustment for a snug but comfortable and reliable fit! The chin strap is easy to adjust and connect/disconnect, and seems reliable! This helmet stays in position quite well regardless of activity, posture/angle, etc. As further proof of comfort and fit, my baby doesn't seem to mind the helmet at all, not even the chin strap!

I like the fit of the helm, especially that it is very easy to get right with only minor and simple adjustments. The reflective elements are also very nice. However, I do not really like the new buckle compared to the preceding helmet model. I find that the new buckle design is more sensitive to any grit that finds it way into the mechanism and it may look as if the buckle is locked in place even when it is not. It seems that some grit is slightly magnetic and so it tends to stick where you want it the least. On the other hand, when all is functioning properly it is very nice.

It's a great helmet. Very safe and easy to fit. The only thing is that the pads fall out to easily.
