got this for my GF who hikes and walks her dog on trails a daily, her old keens were beat down after a few years. She loves them, it took her about 2 days to get them broken enough that they felt ok, after a week they feel great. They are super comfortable and really waterproof w. some slick design features to achieve this, like the flex-i hard rubber just before the laces start. She is happy so I am happy!
I got these for a backpacking trip and they came in two weeks before I went so I could break them in. They worked wonderfully. When I wore them backpacking they wore down really quickly. The bellows melted on one one of them (which was my fault, they were too close to the fire) but it stayed water proof, so I was impressed. The sad part is that the soles started ripping off at the end of the trip. We walked 35 miles in rough terrain (which I have done in other keens) and these ones just didn’t hold up. They’re super comfy though. My toes didn’t slam the tops of my shoes when I went downhill and my feet only hurt due to mileage, not shoe problems.
Bought two pair of keens as i wore out my last pair. Bought the Targhee like i had before, and they are great as usual, but these ridge flex have a lump of fabric where the tongue attached tomthe shoe on top that is so lumpy it rubs very painfully on your foot when walking. It was so bad i only made it a half hour of walking in the house with them on and had to take them off. I had read reviews of others having this issue but thought maybe they would be just fine. Send them back the next day. I just noticed as well that keen received my return 10 days ago but i still havent received a refund to my card, so fyi refunds seem to be taking a long time as well.
Thank you for sharing this experience with us, we're sorry to hear about your shoes. We're glad that you returned them. We are working through holiday return volumes so it is taking longer than usual. If you do have any questions about your refund or trouble with your KEEN boots in the future, please feel welcome to reach out to our www.keenfootwear.com/contact-us/ and we will be happy to support you.
Super comfortable in the width - lots of extra toe wiggle space (which I have no issue with as it's better than having toes squeezed). I bought an 8 (usual Keen size) and they fit, but perhaps just a hair large with thicker socks (again, prefer this to too tight - and my heel didn't slip, so I was okay with it). BUT, had to send them back after trying on because the top of the shoe where it hit the front of my ankle was super painful, but just on one foot. I'm not sure if I got a bad pair, or if it's my ankles, but I'm going to try the boot instead to see if that makes them wearable for me because they are super comfortable and I'd love to be able to keep them.
Even though they aren't a boot they are definitely not for running because they are a little heavy, but they are the perfect hiking shoe for when you want more ankle mobility and a little bit of lightness. They are super grippy and feel very stable. I think they run wide, but not wide by keen standards - just wide by general shoe standards, keen always has a nice roomy toe box. I wish the bellows flex bit went all the way down the big toe side because there is some bend outwards and creasing that may break down faster right at that spot. Overall very comfy and I'm excited for many more summery hikes with these.
So wanted to embrace this shoe but similar to another review, this is the first Karen I have had that gave me blister upon the first wearing. And no matter what socks I wore or insoles I used, they were uncomfortable. Irritation around the ankle and blisters on the inside of my foot below the arch. I returned them. I would also like to note that on my previous Keen hiking shoes, the fabric at the back of the heel is the first thing to wear out and cause heel blisters, well before any of the rest of the shoe shows any deterioration. Bandaids and/or moleskin helps but this should not happen with a pricy, quality shoe. Otherwise, the hiking shoes are great with a wonderful large toe box.

Just like all other Keen footwear, this shoe walks right out of the box onto the trail. The shoe is a bit clunky, and definitely fits on the large side. I was very concerned about other reviews mentioning the rubbing on the inside of the shoe as I have an issue with one toe. With the usual Keen wide toe box I have not experienced any of the issues noted by other reviews. I did wonder about getting a size 6.5 rather than my usual size 7, but am quite happy with the 7's. I could put a heavier sock if needed. I have been wearing the shoes on paved city sidewalks, gravel & dirt trails. The shoes perform well and are comfortable. They are equally at home on trails, out shopping, or a casual night out.
The Ridge Flex Hiking Shoe is very comfortable. I have a pair of Keen Targhee Waterproof Shoes. I love them, but these are lighter and more flexible. I've only had the chance to wear them once on a very wet day. They were definitely waterproof. Time will tell how durable the pleated rubbery feature that makes them flexible will last.
I had so much hope when ordering the Women's Ridge Flex low-cut boot. The write up was promising and the shoe was plenty wide in the toe box for my wider than average woman's foot. The flex gasket was very comfortable but they have added unnecessary padding around the ankle. None of my previous Keen Voyager or Targhee II low-cut boots had this much padding at the ankle. I really wanted the Ridge Flex to work for me but the extra added padding rubbed my ankles until they hurt. Keen please quit messing with the perfection your boots used to be. They used to all have a wide toe box and the ankle area was low enough not to irritate my ankles. Now they are too tight in the toe box and make my ankles hurt.
Hi Anne, Thanks for writing this review and sharing your feedback with us. We're disappointed to hear that the Ridge Flex has not quite met your expectations. We carefully engineer the comfort layers on our shoes to provide you with optimal support and cushioning when wearing them. However, each style is a bit different and while one style may fit you well, another may not be a great match. Additionally, while we do offer styles with a more contoured fit that is slightly narrower and can provide better responsiveness, many of our styles still hold true to the original KEEN fit that you are more familiar with. The Ridge Flex is modeled after the Targhee III and is one of the styles that features our original high-volume toebox. If the Ridge Flex continues to cause you trouble and ends up not working out for you, we are happy to accept them back and assist you in finding a different style! Best, KEEN
I bought these because I absolutely love my Keen high boots, but I'm finding these a little low for my liking - they're really grippy, which is great, but I would prefer a little more rise in the heel. These are more akin to trail runners than my other hiking boots, which give me more spring in the step and feel more forward-going. So, these feel a bit 'ploddy' in comparison. They feel like in between season shoes, too hot for summer wear and not boot-like enough for winter. I can see me wearing them in spring and autumn, though they will never be my go-to hiking shoe.
