Great Everyday Active Pant

Overall: Great everyday pant for an active lifestyle. Comfortable with smart features including zippered pockets, stretch material, and drawcords on the bottom of the legs making it easy to roll up during cycling or climbing. They've become my go-to pants for climbing. Fit: Snug in the hips/seat for an athletic feel while looser in the legs. Material: Slightly stretchy and feels very durable.

Ridiculously wrongly sized.

I am greatly dissapointed in the quality checks; or lack there of, with R.E.I. and their contracted suppliers. The Topo pants that I received were marked as 36 and I measured them as 30. The pants were so small that my first thought was that I accidently ordered womens pants. I did not. The 50% off should have been my first clue but the discounted items through R.E.I should not mean buyer beware. This will be the last time that I buy a brand from R.E.I. that I don't already own because their sizing is too inconsistent.

LOVE these

The Global Pants are a great casual pant, yet can do so much more. They're a great commuter pant (on the bike), road trip pant, hike pant. All of the technical details are so dialed. Topo nailed this. The material is light yet durable, comfy & unrestricting.

These pants are Global!

I always had a tough time picking my pants for overseas travel: don't want to go with sweatpants (need to look somewhat presentable) but other jeans are just too uncomfortable for travel. Well, these pants are the answer! Extremely comfortable pants that I cannot wait to wear on my next trip (hopefully soon). The pants run true to size--didn't have any issues with the sizing. They are super comfortable and have a slight cooling effect. This effect is very useful on a warm(er) day, but it does get slightly cold if you wear them biking on a 40F degree day. They look great, although I wish there were more colors to select. I also like nicely designed pockets: there are zippered pockets inside of the main (unzippered) pockets--I find that really useful for putting money and smaller items to a bit more secure place while you have the main pockets still available for use. I didn't care much for the drawstring that, theoretically, one can use to tighten the pants. The string was way too flexible and didn't really do much for me. It is red and it does look nice contrasting the charcoal color of the pants, but it's not really useful. I think the pants will be able to withstand a fair amount of abuse on a long overseas trip, and they are certainly easy to wash/dry if necessary. I don't think they can resist everything, so be careful if you have a small child running around with greasy fingers trying to catch you... In summary, great pants for everyday use as well as awesome pants for long travel. Can't go wrong wearing these on an airplane!

No stretch. Bad sizing.

When something says "stretch," you expect it to have some spandex level stretch. This pant is a third spandex, yet somehow does not stretch at all. If it did, it could maybe make up for the problem that it's 2 inches off on sizing. Says 32, but at best the waist is a 30. Pockets are cool, and I'm glad they are actually black, but these aren't what's advertised. Not worth keeping unless you just need sturdy black pants.

Ok Materials, Poor Pattern Design

Always been a fan of Topo Designs bags and other products so was fairly intrigued by their foray into clothing! And, they actually offered 20W pants - still not too common place. Unfortunately, the pants were not patterned very well for my use case (hiking, climbing, casual use). I prefer high or mid-rise pants with a gusset/generous space in the thighs for a full range of motion. I also prefer a taper so that the ankles aren’t exposed/flapping around and catching. Unfortunately the way these pants are patterned was about the opposite of my preference. An extremely low rise (I’m not tall!) and excess material past the knee. With the low rise and insufficient space for the junk n trunk, these didn’t provide enough range of motion for my active pursuits. Hopefully the next iteration will have an improved patterning! I will say the material and stitching quality was decent and in-line with other offerings for the price range. No knocks there! So, these might be a good option, IF the fit is for you — definitely try before you buy in my book.

Great for everything

I've used these pants for just about everything - chopping wood, fixing and riding bikes, and standing around the office and I love them. They are slightly more 'techy' than I'd prefer, but they stretch and have resisted everything I've thrown at them. Hopefully they hold up in the long term!
