Sizing Notes

Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.

SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.

TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

Extremely stoked and satisfied customer

I would highly recommend these pants to anyone who works year round, walking, hiking, farming, pretty much anything. These are the pants. If you have been looking for a great set of dependable pants that will last you a few years. My pair, as of a few days ago, have been day out and day in worn, put through the test, and have astonishingly lasted me five years now!!! I have been completely satisfied with them at this point. Kinda bummed my favorite pair is now gone, but the miles I put on these bad boys, insane. The only thing I didn’t get to do is try to climb in them…but other than that, the only downside is being not the best in the colder days or winter months. This pair have been well worth the price that had been paid for them. Years of work, I am stoked they got me this far. Sad to see them go but a good pair of pants.

Excelent carpenter pants!

These are great long lasting work pants. I build houses and these pants are a big part of my work. They are flexable to a point and have a low weight, which really helps at the end of the work day! They have kept my warm in the cold Montana winters and still let me have good range of motion. They are too hot in the hottest days of summer. After five years the pockets go first. An improvement would be to make a tape holder liner on the top of the side pockets like my wranglers, which are heavier and not as flexable. Wear them with a long base layer for winter and they will keep you warm. I love them! Thanks REI!!!

Bought one pair, immediate got another

Big fan of these pants. They’re a great alternative to the typical lightweight, moisture-wicking styles. Feel more substantial with a bit of structure but still really comfortable right from the start. The fit is solid and they’ve handled everything from farm work to truck camping to everyday wear without any issues. Ended up getting both colors and have been wearing them constantly. So far they’re holding up great and feel built to last. Definitely worth it.

Hi Dan, thanks for your review. These are modeled after our former Trailsmith Pants with some added mobility and durability features. So glad you love them!

Hot and Heavy

I purchased these pants because they were the only pants in the store made of a natural material - cotton. The fit is ok for that type of pants, but the material is too thick, stiff, and heavy for me, and uncomfortably hot in warmish weather. They don't seem to breathe very well. Hopefully they will get softer and less stiff the more that they are washed. I bought the brown and the black, and those are fine in regard to the colors. Two more things, these do not have a button on the left back pocket to secure your wallet, and there are only five belt loops and I prefer seven.

Great fit!

I’m a woman who has such a difficult time finding pants that are both sturdy and flattering. My proportions are tricky: smallish waist, bigger hips, and shorter, thicker legs. I shop at REI often, searching for durable work pants since I work in a marsh and need protection from prickly vegetation and mosquitoes while still being able to move comfortably. These pants are a total win. The fit and fabric are incredible, thick enough for protection but still flexible. I actually found them by accident while walking past the men’s section after striking out in women’s. I’m so glad I stopped. Even the cashier mentioned his wife has the same issue finding pants that fit right, so I really hope she gives these a try too.

Silly marketing, same old tried an true Trailsmith

Bomber pants. Solid, tough but slightly lighter than your average working pants. Use them in the shop, cutting wood, cool weather hikes, chasing your kids around park. The fabric blend offers a touch more stretch than the typical cotton canvas pants, but doesn't sacrifice durability. From the stitching, to the fabric, even to the pirate black color, these are the same mysterious Trailsmith pants that seem to disappear from the REI catalog and then pop back up every 2 to 3 years (this time with a marketing department name change). I assume long term performance will match previous pairs of Trailsmiths. They will last 2 to 3 solid years before new ventilation holes begin appearing in less than flattering locations. Overall, they are my favorite pair of pants on the market and worth every penny...if only REI would make this an item they produce on an annual basis.

The fit could be better

I love the features of these pants and I want to like them. However, I don't think the crotch gusset is doing anything. As I moved throughout the day, these pants constantly needed adjustment after sitting down or squating. These pants need more room in the seat to better move and flex with me. I bought the correct size, as the waist fits perfectly. I might try a size up to see if the rest of the pants fit better, but I am a bit disappointed.

Good for Work or Fun Outside

These are - stitch for stich - a version of the Trailsmith pants offered several years ago. I laid out these next to the Trailsmith's and there is virtually no difference other than the fabric color. The fit is true and a smidgen roomy. Looking forward to another several years of good use

Good shop pant

Have both colors . They seem solid and better quality than something like the huckberry rover double knee, but it's only been a couple weeks. More colors please!

Favorites

Picked up a pair of these and they are solid! Much more comfortable than jeans, look good, lots of pockets and so far pretty resistant to dirt / stains / tears.
