The boa being towards the toe bed instead of towards the ankle creates a constricting sensation in the worst region possible: Along the toe bed. Meanwhile, the upper Boa cable is left loose because of the design of the shoe meaning that your ankle is unsupported while your toes are being smashed (particularly a bad design for those of us needing a wider shoe. I would spend the extra money and purchase the XC7's. I've been on the hunt for a wide shoe and they are the only ones that feel remotely comfortable on an off the bike.
These are not wide. I would describe my feet as moderately wide and these shoes are narrow. I thought they might just be a little stiff but after about 100 miles they are still very uncomfortable. My feet hurt on the sides which means they are too narrow. I have about an inch of room in front of my toes. These shoes are just long and narrow. The biggest selling feature is the claim that they are wide - if only this were true.
I just got a pair of these, my foot is a D, and it is really tight at the widest part of my foot. Also my toes are crammed into the toe box; I can barely move them it is so tight. I checked to make sure the right shoe was in the box and from what I gather it is a 45 Wide. Very disappointing. I bought these to replace the PEARL iZUMi X-Alp Summit Mountain shoes that I bought 2 months ago from REI online, which are too narrow. Those shoes feel like slippers compared to these.
Great shoes. However, even though the model is "wide", it is still too narrow for my foot. The size is the correct one (I wear a number 10), and it is wide (I normally use the 'wide' option for my shoes). however, it was so narrow that it caused serious pain even for a day or two after wearing them.
This was marked as "men's wide" but is essentially medium width. Length is ... well, almost the specified "48". With synthetic uppers, there would be no "give" and this would be painful to wear.
I'[ve wide feet and its always been a bother to get cycling shoes that fit. These are a godsend and I'll be ordering more just to have for future use. They are effective, comfortable, and I really like the tightening system
Nice quality shoe with a good boa system. They are wide, but only in the ball of foot-mid foot area. The toe box is still narrow like a standard shoe.
I normally wear a 44 so when I saw this wide shoe I thought I could get away with a 43, but ended up with a 46. Go up two when ordering.
mostly I got these because they are available in wide sizes. I am pleased with the wide fit. My friends told me I would love the boa lace system. I'm not sure it's much better than anything else (laces or velcro). I get the shoes covered with mud all the time, and the boa system works, but I do worry about the mud getting in there and causing problems. No regrets so far (2 months of muddy riding 5x/week).
I had tried a few pair of bike shoes for wide feet, but none work. This shoe work for my wide feet. I did have to upsize from a 46 to a 48 to have enough room. But I found a shoe that fits without having to spend $300+ on a sidi mega.
